Looks like you're missing something, perhaps deliberately, perhaps not.There was nothing in the post about 'rock and roll'. If you look carefully, there's a post of a song from 1997 and a 1932 recording of the song it's based on.

Or perhaps you were replying to someone else's earlier post without bothering to make that clear.

Anyway, here's two songs from a very good singer who's just died aged 80.

@TheOther

Your Farm post was maybe a bit too long, but I enjoyed it immensely,my kind of stuff!

@jon357

A clever double post.

Perhaps you're confused.

This American always is.

The song was based on a 1920s piece from London. most famously recorded in 1932 by Al Bowlly.

Correct.JRJim the country bumpkin has got it all wrong as usual!

Typical European

I think that we are looking at typical American ignorance, lack of education and stupidity here.

As opposed to a person living in Michigan who can't think......

@jon357

I liked your Francoise Hardy posts, way over JR Jim's head.....

.I wonder who will get this first, Johnny or Milo?

No contest!

Burt Bacharach

When I saw that name, my heart sank, because it's not really my kind of music, but when the video played, I realised that this song was an old classic!

@TheOther

Your post really kicked me into action.For me, Hendrix was an absolute genius, before his time,which is why so many guitarists have imitated him since.

Here are some, that I think, were the best.

And saving the best till last......

You forgot some of the best:

Not to mention Carlos Santana and Alvin Lee...

You forgot some of the best:

I don't think any of the artists you mention were "Jimi Hendrix Copyists", they had a style of their own.

TheOther

Yeah, sorry. I overlooked the word "imitated". Although, Pat Travers normally doesn't sound like Hendrix. Listen to his album "Live! Go for What You Know".

This is a better post, at least no old Serbian tarts..... but I hear music like this in Greek restaurants all the time!

Pat Travers normally doesn't sound like Hendrix

I know,but he certainly can at times!

Has anyone ever heard of 'The Velvet Underground and Nico'?

Yeah, not to my taste.

Hawkwind -- You Shouldn't Do That

Yeah, I quite liked Hawkwind.

Saw this woman last Sunday a brilliant singer, brilliant songwriter and a great musician. She is part of what is being called the new wave of Irish music which is odd as she styles herself as a continuation in a long tradition of street singers. The audience was a real mix of ages with thirty somethings the largest section at about 25%. The cream of trad players were there almost paying homage.

Its interesting and special to see musical evolution or a passing of the baton.

I can see why people like her,but she's not to my personal taste and I don't like her voice.

I think Lisa O'Neil will have a niche audience that love her stuff though.

not to my personal taste

Plangent folk music, like a lot of English similar stuff.

The Unthanks (2 sisters and a cousin from Northumberland) have great voices but do similar stuff to that. Bloody miserable and puts listeners on a downer. They also do Robert Wyatt covers which aren't much more cheerful but at least have something about them.

This is one of my favourite songs sung by a singer with a great voice. The melody is by Alexander Borodin, via Broadway.
