Music I have never got bored of

Chemikiem

Now something we all know: Paranoid

Great song and very fitting for PF ;)

A couple more of their tunes:

Black Sabbath - Iron Man

Black Sabbath - Changes

youtu.be/nPtorZ2k7Ak

I've never heard of Big Country

Scottish band as Milo said. To be honest I preferred some of their album tracks to their hits. The Storm, for example, is an album track from 'The Crossing', but it's my favourite song of theirs.

I prefered Big Country over U2.

Snap. I can see why U2 are so popular, but I only really liked their album 'War'. With the exception of the song 'One', I disliked everything that followed that album.

age difference is the problem.

Sometimes, yeah. It's why I couldn't get into early Genesis, I just don't remember them then.

Continuing with the Celtic theme, another of my favourite bands, The Waterboys:

The Waterboys - When Ye Go Away

youtu.be/kyoMs6EzOTM

The Waterboys - And a Bang on the Ear

youtu.be/xmyPHfu9c0c

The Waterboys - Fisherman's Blues

youtu.be/a4UQJwd3awQ

The Waterboys - World Party

I can see why U2 are so popular

I don't like U2 very much, but I was persuaded to go to see them on the Joshua Tree tour. It was chucking it down, but they were just laughing and joking about it, even playing "Singing in the rain" to mock the rain rather than sulking about it. After that, I've got immense respect for them as performers, and the concert was an incredible show even if I'm not a huge fan of theirs. New Year's Day is a tremendous song though:

Coincidentally, they went on stage to "The Whole Of The Moon" by The Waterboys ;)

@Chemikiem

The Waterboys were not bad in my books.A good Scottish band with Celtic roots and loads of members.... mainly Scottish,Irish and English.

I want to explore a different path tonight.
Much as I love our neighbours, the Lithuanians and Slowaks, the greatest unity has been between Poles and Hungarians.
Even though they are not Slavs..... I have personal experience of this because one of my oldest friends is of Hungarian descent.
Like me, he was born in England.
But he was conceived in Hungary in 1956.....his parents made a dangerous escape but got to London, where he was born.
When I entered his parents house, I felt an instant warmth and the reverse was also true.
Poles and Hungarians share the same fight against communism and protecting their own culture.
Maybe that is why we are blood brothers.
But more than that, we share a mentality,mood and temperament that overcomes ethnicity.
The Hungarian government saw in advance the advantage of promoting Rock music back in the seventies and so Hungarian Rock is miles ahead of Polish Rock.

Some Hungarian Rock to prove my point......

This is Amigod with "Este Van"

youtu.be/MLy8n7EPB6o

This is Road with"Nem Eleg".

youtu.be/5YLJR1VsuVs

FreshFabrik with "Time to become one".

youtu.be/5zIn0yuNPSQ

I think that is enough to make my point.......

Last post from me tonight.
This is Percival with "o Moj wianku"

It has been very warm in London recently,it may or may not be the same with you, but I am going for slightly more chilled and "summery" music tonight.

This is Robert Glasper and his jazzy cover of "Smells like teen spirit"....see what you think...

youtu.be/WudaLBOCrBE

One of my all time favourites, French band St.Germain sampling John Lee Hooker and getting it so right...

youtu.be/zMM044eL56c

Jamirioquai with "Seven days in sunny June", we are almost in june and this is a nice summer tune.

youtu.be/FRSH-egVyzk

I'll end with this lovely piece of Latin music..... from an Australian band.,... of Latin descent...

New Year's Day is a tremendous song though:

I agree, great song from a great album :)

Coincidentally, they went on stage to "The Whole Of The Moon" by The Waterboys ;)

Now I had gone off The Waterboys by the time they had entered their commercial stage, just didn't like the tunes much. Simple MInds are another great band, but I much preferred their music before they became really well known. Sons and Fascination was the last album I bought by them.

I want to explore a different path tonight.

So many good tunes you posted! Loved the Hungarian rock one by Road, and Percival I recently discovered due to a link by Torq, loved them! I can never fault Jamiroquai, because their music is just great. Loved the St Germain one too! :)

That one way to get us to watch the video..post pic of hot girls..lol

I watched the video, Crow. The music sounds kind of like rap but don't understand what they are saying.

Life's been good - Joe Walsh

Remember James Gang?

@Chemikiem

The Dead South are absolutely superb.
And this may surprise you, I have never heard of them, so thank you for introducing me to this great band.
I will make a post,maybe tomorrow, about how we get to know about new music and how that has changed.

@Crow

Sorry mate.... that was awful..... if I get time this weekend I will search Serbian Music and hopefully find some decent stuff to post.

@Joker

Yeah, The James Gang were a good band.

Remember James Gang?

I don't Joker, they were a bit before my time I think, but I'll check them out. I remember Joe Walsh more from when he was in The Eagles.

I have never heard of them, so thank you for introducing me to this great band.

They're amazing aren't they, makes me wish I could play the banjo. I would love to see them live. More of them:

The Dead South - Black Lung

@Chemikiem

More great songs from The Dead South.
I used to hate American Country Music but the new stuff that has come out in recent years I just love.
These guys are more Bluegrass though, which have their roots in Irish, Scottish and even English music, with a bit of black american thrown in too...

This is why American Popular music is so good, it is because of the mix of styles.
Loved your posts Pam!

@Joker

Great tune and still one of my favourite James Gang numbers.
I have three from them tonight.....this is a bit of an oddity for them, but I like it.
The James Gang with "Yadig?"

youtu.be/zVdblBZ-SrE

This one is a killer.... The James Gang with "Walk Away".

youtu.be/zo0vBdlWQs0

And lastly, before "Funk #49", came "Funk #48".......enjoy!!

Is there anything that can move your old brain? All is in a head

The music sounds kind of like rap but don't understand what they are saying.

He is her favorite but he she telling him (using Portuguese word `favorito`) to slow down a little, not to push too hard on her emotions.

Listen Slavic music. Be cool.

31 May 2020  #347

But everyone knows FUNK#49

Except me! Never heard of it Joker, but I really like it, along with Funk#48 that Milo posted :)
I know a lot of older stuff as I grew up with a family member always playing prog rock, but early Genesis for example, wasn't played, so I've missed out on quite a bit. First Genesis song I ever heard was ' Follow you, Follow me'. Nice to hear all the different types of music being played on this thread though.

These guys are more Bluegrass though

Yep, and I've always loved Bluegrass.

Loved your posts Pam!

Thanks Milo. I wasn't so keen on Yadig, but Funk#48 and Walk Away are great.

You are but a mere spring chicken my dear, compared to the oldie Joker and even older Milo :-)

But enjoy the music ;-)

I have got a complete mish mosh of tunes for you tonight.
Hope you enjoy some of them at least...

Actually, its getting late, so I will end with this one...

I used to hate American Country Music but the new stuff that has come out in recent years I just love.

really? I can't stand the new country music. It's pop music with a half-assed southern accent. :)

Give me Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Hank William Sr (not Jr.), Waylon Jennings, and George Jones anyday.

I remember Joe Walsh more from when he was in The Eagles.

Some of Walsh's solo stuff has staying power. In my youth, one of my bands covered this Joe Walsh tune. Kick ass rock tune.

youtube.com/watch?v=gf47PtfG7VA

But to really veer in a different direction: Claude Debussey's music has been filling my house lately.

I don't know how you can say that when there are so many different types of Modern Country.
Sure, there is some as you describe but there is some more traditional Country, Rock influenced Country and even Country Rap!

I will end with this one...

Great tune Milo, never heard of the Speakeasies' Swing Band before, I will have to checkout more of their music :)

Kick ass rock tune.

Never heard it before but I absolutely loved it, not so keen on the classical stuff though.

I don't know how you can say that when there are so many different types of Modern Country.

What I've heard it seems like pop, and I just don't like it. Personal preference. The older traditional guys hold my interest.

Never heard it before but I absolutely loved it

Walsh had some really good solo stuff.

Chemikiem
1 Jun 2020  #353

I'll have to check out more of it, to be honest the only solo record I had heard before the one you posted was 'Life's been good'.

@AntV

The Joe Walsh track was very good.

As for classical music, I just can't bear it...... if it doesn' have a guitar, preferably electric, or at the very least a great big brass section, it ain't music for me....sorry, my personal taste.

AntV
1 Jun 2020  #355

, my personal taste

When it comes to music, it's all that matters. :)

You prefer a heavy electric guitar sound?

Miloslaw
1 Jun 2020  #356

Yeah, that is my generation..... but I listen to other stuff too.
I have very broad tastes.
But I hate Classical and Opera music.
If you like that stuff, that's cool too.
Music is very personal.

AntV
1 Jun 2020  #357

@Miloslaw

I grew up in that era also. Metal was all the rage. You familiar with Testament? I thought they were the best of the thrash bands, more melodic. Skolnick's guitar playing was/is nice.

Thanks mate, I loved your post, that type of classy Hard Rock and Electric Blues is where I am mainly at.....but I like Jazz, Funk, some Soul, some Reggae,some Country, some Prog Rock, most Celtic Music, some Folk.... the list goes on and on..... I love music..... just not Classical or Opera.....LOL!

delphiandomine
1 Jun 2020  #359

Testament

Hammer Of The Gods was a hell of a track, though I'm not much of a thrash fan.

Classical

Oh come on Milo, give it a chance:

AntV

I used to live for that heavy stuff, as long as it had melody. Never cared for Slayer and the death metal stuff.

Now, I can't get enough of the classical stuff. You and I are basically the same, except in reverse. :)

Funk, I leave you with this:

youtube.com/watch?v=6F7xbF7OnxU

@delphiandomine

Yeah, most thrash wasn't too appealing, but there were some that had a little something. Megadeth, Testament, Metallica, they had well written tunes with some touch.
