Poland`s aid to Ukraine if Russia invades

Russia can feed three times it's populatio

How? Food production and transport requires technology that Russia can neither produce nor maintain on its own.

twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1501360272442896388

And I'd care more about what happens to the Russian people if their government did and wasn't herding them into some kind of grotesque fascist apocalypse

twitter.com/kamilkazani/status/1500495309595725831

I'd like to see a prosperous and happy and non-aggressive Russia, given its potential - it could easily be an economic and cultural superpower, but the Russian people keep choosing misery and violence and dysfunction. Ultimately that's their problem, not mine.

How? Food production and transport requires technology that Russia can neither produce nor maintain on its own.

Do you know how to use Google? Since 2014, Russia has experienced an unprecedented renaissance in agriculture and food production. You don't need to go to TASS or Sputnik, but can check the Financial Times, WSJ, or Bloomberg.

Russia is the world's largest exporter of grain. Egypt and Turkey, for example, are critically dependent on Russian imports to meet the food needs of their population. You will say, you cannot do this without modern fertilizers. Russia, along with Belarus, are by far the largest suppliers of fertilizer to world markets. I suppose you could argue that Russia cannot achieve the same yields without access to Western mechanized farming equipment a-la John Deere and Caterpillar. I invite you to study a company called RostSelMash and it's product line, as well as list of export destinations.

This is the situation only in grain. There are mirror situations in other cash crops as well as dairy, meat, and poultry. Russia is gearing up to feed even more people as China is lifting import restrictions for Russian foods across the board.

The 2014 sanctions hurt Russia in many ways, but one place where they definitely benefited was food. Not being tied to honoring any stupid EU open trade or WTO complaints, because it could point at those European unilateral sanctions - Russia became unshackled in how it could support it farmers and other food producers.

Stop spouting nonsense on every step and try to formulate a nuanced argument for once.

@Bobko
See you don't get it. In the USA, we elect presidents, no one is appointed, and we don't change the constitution to keep dictators in power. None of your name changes work or make sense. This though I expect from a Russian. Your country is an embarrassment to mankind. You build nothing and create nothing that the rest of us need or want. Soon they will have nothing from the west and neighbors will be turning in neighbors just like the good old days in order to get a better apartment.

And this is what you will never understand about the west. Money is not as important as freedom. We don't care what it costs to starve you out. If it gets too crazy we will just get fireplaces and more blankets. No problem. We will then talk about how we are beating the Russian's again, on a new IPhones and watch all the latest movies on Netflix while drinking Coke, and eating steaks. We will get on the internet and use Facebook, and all the other social media banned in Russia.

What will Russia do? They will get in bread lines, and issue ration cards. They will work only in black market areas. All attempts at innovation will die. People who find success legally will be turned on by their neighbors out of jealousy. And they will locked in behind their borders unable to participate in the world they once had and that their children dream of. Sounds like history repeating itself doesn't it?

Strange. Why do you and your friends keep asking me how I feel about the exchange rate, about ration cards, about iPhones, Game of Thrones, Friends, BookFace?

Bobko, you do business in the US? Great (I mean that). Do you do business in Russia? If not, then why not?

Russia has experienced an unprecedented renaissance in agriculture and food production

Like it's modernization of the military?

Russia cannot achieve the same yields without access to Western mechanized farming equipment

It's about supply chains and Russia losing its place in them... Russian production is dependent on western supplies.

And there's transport and distribution.... and the likelihood of food transport and distribution being taken over by mafia style groups (if they're not already under their control).

Because your country has insecurity, paranoid, and jealousy issues. We laugh at you. Really, that is the only thing you Russians actually have correct. We laugh at you and your way of living. We laugh at your paranoia and insecurity because it shows just how pitifully insecure you are as a culture. You dont see the west invading Russia because we dont want it, and we dont want the people. We dont need it and can easily live without you. Remember the Cold War? We won, and we will win again.

We ask because you as so Fing stupid that you think killing Ukraine people will make anything good happen for your country and people. I can tell you what will happen in Poland if a Z is spotted on someone's car. II dare you to put a Z on your window in NYC or anywhere in NY and see how long you last. Your leader is so stupid its really pitiful he is getting out thought by a senile sleepy Joe. Thats Putin. Another Russian mental midget thug. Nothing more.

Do you do business in Russia?

I do in fact! I mentioned earlier that I'm in the US on an investment visa (not the residency granting E-5, but also an E class). Necessarily, the funds I am transferring are Russian, and CIS in origin.

Russia is both a great place to do business and a terrible place to do business for the same reason - because it is still in a state of "Wild West". Some people can manage, others break. To me, business is interesting in both countries, and I also find difficulties in operating in both - in different ways and at different times.

I will try to be objective.

Pros:

1) Russia has the benefit of a low starting base. Everything is easier to do, and faster to get off the ground because it is still so far behind and there is much catching up to do.

2) This benefit of a low starting base, or in some cases zero starting base, results in some things in Russia being paradoxically better than they are in the United States. For a long time - a simple example I used was the quality of mobile data in Moscow and New York. It was better in Moscow, not because it was wealthier than New York, but simply because their was not much existing infrastructure and they simply bought the best and newest off the shelf. Contrast this to the evolutionary pace of improvement in New York, dominated by Verizon and ATT. Another example of where Russia is ahead of America for this reason is the interactions with the government. Everything in Russia is digitized as far as simple government services through their eGov platform. In New York you can spend half a day running between the DMV, the SS Office, USCIS, etc.

3) In the end, I am Russian and would prefer to help Russians.

Cons:

1) It has a low starting base. If you want to be really big, perhaps you will never become as big in Russia as you would in the United States.

2) Money is f*ckin hard to raise. Russians think that if a project doesn't do 20% returns in first year it's a **** project. If it doesn't return initial investment in 5 years - fuggedaboutit. In America it's normal for people not to expect PROFITS for 10 years, understanding that growth is more important that just minting cash.

3) Putin. Not because I don't like Putin, but because everybody else does not like Putin - in the west I mean. The baggage over the years has accumulated. Some of the sanctions are sticky and annoying - as I mentioned in previous post. But believe me when I tell you they only breed resentment.

It's about supply chains and Russia losing its place in them... Russian production is dependent on western supplies.

May I ask you - what the hell do you know about Russia's supply chains in regards to this sector? What the hell do you know about transport? If by land, do you know anything about Russian rail and highway networks? If by sea - do you know what fleets carry these commodities, from which ports, who are the owners of these fleets, what flags they sail under, where are the ships built, how they are insured?

LMFAO truth hurts doesn't it.

No, I just realized that you're a complete moron as well as a loser in the deepest sense of the word. I regret spending any time replying to you, and will try to avoid this mistake going forward.

RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE CAMPAIGN ASSESSMENT, MARCH 9
understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-march-9

Russian operations to continue the encirclement of and assault on Kyiv have likely begun, although on a smaller scale and in a more ad hoc manner than ISW expected. The equivalent of a Russian reinforced brigade reportedly tried to advance toward Kyiv through its western outskirts and made little progress. Smaller operations continued slowly to consolidate and gradually to extend the encirclement to the southwest of the capital.

So basically, to summarize, according to the Russian trolls here, every fatality, every casualty, every bomb, every atrocity has been committed by the Ukrainian army against their own people in order to make Russia look bad ............... in fact the Ukrainians probably forced the lovely Russians, at gun point, to take over the Chernobyl power plant and the Ukrainians are holding the workers there hostage and have cut the power, hoping for a nuclear catastrophe in which they want to die, just for the PR.

Gives one quite an insight into the Russian psyche - as if we needed it, having watched their development for over a hundred years.

@mafketis

I'm familiar with Mr. Galeev, and know a little bit about his history. He's undoubtedly a very intelligent young man, and not a bad historian. Last year he had an unfortunate run in with the law in Russia during an unsanctioned protest. For some time, his fate was up in the air, but then he was released. Soon after, he emerged here in the States and has been broadcasting his opinions more or less non stop since then.

I understand his anger, and his pain. It's human to want to punish those that humiliated you. However, it is not right when you turn this attitude against your entire people. There are many others like him in the West, such as Gary Kasparov, who claim to be the greatest lovers of Russia but only seem to do things that hurt us. While their fight is with Putin, what they seem to like to do most is to force Russians to emigrate, cut Russian access to high technology, to culture, art, etc. They do this not only on Twitter, but also in testimony before the US congress before sanctions legislation is passed, in academic conferences, and on the pages of leading newspapers. They all use the same vocabulary and same theses. Putin, Mafia, KGB, Oligarchs, bla bla bla. "Don't feed the mafia state!"

All the while, there are 150 million Russians who don't really care about intra-elite fights for the Kremlin but suffer most as a result of these efforts. His position is nothing new to me, and I learned nothing scrolling through his tweets.

I would rather not comment on his economic and financial musings. He is, however, still a good historian.

A complete moron would risk his visa spouting off about Russia while in the USA.

I have an American friend, living in Moscow right now, with his Russian wife - and he is spouting off about how much he hates Putin DAILY. So far nobody has revoked his visa. It would be truly very upsetting to me if I was the one that got booted. I would have to complain to him about this upon arrival.

I will help you:

That doesn't address my statement at all - and regarding the situation at Chernobyl:

Associate Fellow in the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex Dr Paul Dorfman has described a "very difficult and dangerous situation" at the Chernobyl nuclear plant which is under Russian control.

He explained the risks after the power line connecting the site to the grid was severed, with 20,000 fuel containers that require cooling.

He warned there is "a potential for grave risk but for now things are holding".

Bobko
10 Mar 2022  #4579

@amiga500

Do you really think there are any consequences to criticizing Putin publicly (other than in unsanctioned protests or if your name is Navalny)? Until just before the war, we had two channels in Russia whose sole purpose seemed to be to dump sh!t on Putin. Эхо Москвы and Дождь. I even began to suspect that this is some kind of Kremlin orchestrated Potemkin oppo-press to create a facade of legitimacy. But then he actually closed both of them last week - after they spent the first days of the war bollocking the entire idea of the invasion. Notice - not for criticizing him - which he tolerated for twenty years - but for going against the war. This is different. More so - it is popular.

If I come to Moscow tomorrow and sit down on red square with a poster saying "Putin is a Murderer" I doubt anything would happy except perhaps the pitying glances of those passing by.

A separate subject, of course are the anti-fake laws - which I think are absolutely retarded and repressive.

By the way the fact you refer to Soviet Union as to Russia tell is all. You should really go back to Russia for at least five years. See who you like it and then come back here to preach.

Russia is not a nice place to live, most Russian may not know about it but you should. Spreading their misery is not very nice of them.

a potential for grave risk

For now, russian troops, guarding nuclear objects, and station personnel run all existing backup power sources (diesel generators) to assure efficient cooling of spent fuel rods in station storage. Repair of damaged transformers and power lines will take time.

By the way the fact you refer to Soviet Union as to Russia tell is all.

99% of the world uses this convention of speech when referring to the states that existed on this territory. Russia is a direct and legal continuation of -- USSR -- Russian Empire -- Tsardom of Russia. --- Grand Duchy of Moscow -- and from there through a succession of princely states all the way back to Kievan Rus. The only people that have a problem with this formulation seem to be Poles and various micro-Balts.

I think FSO guys will be there in minutes and will politely ask you to leave vicinity of object that is under special security regime right now.

I grown in one of buildings with windows looking to Kremlin walls and know that vicinity of Kremlin is under very tight control (it was one of KGB departments that time, now it is separate service known as FSO, a russian variant of US Secret Service).

I understand what you are saying, but I still think you exaggerate regarding the FSO reaction. Один душевнобольной человек с плакатом не есть угроза режимному объекту. I did not ever have the privilege to live so near the Kremlin (impressive), but have passed by it perhaps 100s of times. I have seen many strange characters there, and the FSO was nowhere to be seen, while cops just watch with interest.

Key factor is numbers.

The main things from the new statement of the Russian Ministry of Defense (after studying of captured documentation):

▪️ in biolaboratories created and funded by the United States in Ukraine, experiments were carried out with samples of bat coronavirus;

▪️ in 2022, work was planned on pathogens of birds, bats and reptiles, with a further transition to studying the possibility of carrying African swine fever and anthrax;

▪️ the goal of biological research was to create a mechanism for the covert spread of deadly pathogens;

▪️ a project was implemented to study the transmission of pathogens by wild birds migrating between Ukraine, Russia and other neighboring countries.

BTW: In the past, US biolab in Georgia was suspected source of african swine fever that effectively removed Russia, Poland and baltic countries from world market of pork meat. This is billions of dollars in losses, and no more competition for manufacturers outside of Eastern Europe.
