It simple isn`t logical. Why pollute land that would be Russia or regions that border Russia. As we know radioactivity is very dangerous to humans. But nuclear weapons outside of Ukraine are viable option if Russian casualties reach some point or if Russia feels threatened. Its even legitimate to use nukes, now already, on western Europe, USA and some other NATO countries because they became sides in conflict.

Ukraine will be in range of Crimea in a week. They don't need long range then. When Kherson falls, Putin needs to get deep into his bunker because his own generals may come looking for him.

Russia will likely hit historical, cultural and government centers in Kiev as payback. They have to be careful though because they dont have many smart weapons left. I just read that the Russian biathlon competition the other day turned into a skateski competition because they didnt have any ammo to shoot. Russian blood lust is nothing new, and when Putin already blew his wad with smart weapons his only option is nuclear for a big blow. If that happens the Black Sea fleet will be repurposed into submarines and artificial reefs for fish.

Russia wastes its missiles on cynical non strategic attacks. Also gives Ukraine justification to fire some of its better missiles into Belgorod or Rostov. Will also make it more difficult for their few remaining friends to offer support.

And a good reason for tougher sanctions - the few remaining nutjobs like Orban can now be ignored by the EU. Cutting off Krolowiec from mainland Russia will now become easier.
