Like 90% help without Poland would be cut off from Ukrianie. So naturly Poland play the key role here.

If not for Poland helping transport weapons and staging deliveries of all kinds of aid, Ukraine would not exist now. It is the weapons from US, UK, Germany and Poland that are making the difference in a big way. Baltic nations yes, they are helping as much as they can. We have all lived with the Russian shadow, the communist threats, the nuclear threats. This is exactly why so many are united, its time to end Russia as it exists.

In the mean time, the UN is warning that the nuclear power plant Russia is using as a shield is in trouble and we could be seeing another accident in Ukraine. This is bad, and we dont need another Chernobyl.

Just, you forgot to mention that such a unity existed even at at time of crusades, Napoleon, Hitler. In all those eras entire western Europe rode Poland like a donkey. They rode Poland, while they took the lands (and assimilated/germanized people) that naturally belonged to Poland in what is now Eastern Germany. Only because Popes said to Poland to forget it and join in crusade against Russia.

Neither Lithuania or Ukraine have tremendously.... positive histories with Poland but for most normal people the current strong and much better relationships are more important and the negative parts are tempered by the current improved relations.

Similarly, Hungary is throwing away a lot of shared allied history by sucking up to russia and its past will also be re-interpreted in that light.

Those who think that current relations need to be shaped by things hundreds of years old are irrelevant and should be ignored (or ridiculed).

This was more about telling the domestic audience that Putin is lying. There are still quite a few Germans who blame the German government for the reduction of gas, or who want NSII to be used instead the "defect" NSI. The German government wants to make sure that if the heating goes off in Winter, its' voters are blaming Putin and not them.

Actually it's my understanding that Pewex was very different from Beriozka and similar ventures.

You needed special permission to get inside the door for Beririozka and the others as far as I know*, regular locals were not allowed even if they did have hard currency.

Pewex actually had far more local customers than foreigners due to the socialist economic magic of "Internal export" so that Pewex was the only way lots of Polish people could get certain Polish products... and the communist government was glad to get its paws on the hard currency that locals might have gotten...

*in 1984 in Budapest I tried to go inside the local equivalent and even showing a US passport wasn't enough, there was some other paper permission slip needed....

Every country that left the Russian sphere of influence greatly benefitted as a result. It's not surprising these countries decided to join NATO in order to secure their gains and make sure Russians never return.

Being 'friendly with Russia' already condemns a country to being a dictatorship like Belarus or a corrupt oligarchic sh*ithole like pre-Rose Revolution Georgia, pre-Maidan Ukraine and numerous central Asian republics until today. No wonder lots of countries try to escape this fate, even risking Russian revenge.
