I'd prefer that he be a statistic
Mobilizations can rake up a great deal of riff-raff, which may suffer from low morale and be difficult to train/integrate. However, a mobilization also brings into the fray many high quality personnel that the military authorities could not hope to get their hands on in peacetime through salary incentives or benefits. I suspect Velund falls into the latter category.
Mobilizations and drafts are the great blender blades of society - one of the few existing mechanisms through which rich and poor, educated and illiterate are brought together. They can have an amazing long term effect of binding society together. It's what the United States lost after it removed the draft. Now the US has an army of hillbillies, inner city unfortunates, and Latinos fighting for a green card. On the flip side, the US can now be engaged in a war for twenty years at a time and nobody at home seems to care. Still, I would argue much was also lost when it transitioned away from how it was in WW2 or Vietnam where you could have an Ivy League student serve alongside a street sweeper.
As an educated and well motivated person, I'm sure Velund will take good care of his men, not throw them in harm's way unnecessarily, and be a ferocious enemy to the Ukrainians. Again, good luck Velund!
