Never apologize for your territorial acquisitions then and now. When debating Poles, never forget that these are women in male bodies - driven by metaphors, poetry, and feelings and incapable of rational, fact, and logic-based reasoning.
Despite Poland's lack of interest in taking part in any violation of its eastern neighbor's sovereignty, Russia reportedly continued to offer Poland the chance to partition Ukraine. On one occasion, according to Sikorski, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a veteran radical right-wing politician and then the speaker of Russia's parliament, came to Warsaw and offered Poland the five provinces of western Ukraine.
"We made it very, very clear to them - we wanted nothing to do with this," Sikorski told Politico. The belief within the Polish government at the time was that Zhirinovsky operated as a plausibly deniable feeler from Russia's inner political circles.
Such offers were also made before, though via lower diplomatic channels (not to Foreign Affairs Minister or the PM). I heard about them from a senior diplomat before 2010. Although back then Polish gov was not sure if it was an actual offer, or a Russian provocation to compromise us vis-a-vis Ukraine. Of course the offer was ignored, not even requiring an answer.
It seems later those plans crystallized and ultimately were put into action even without Polish cooperation.
