The Ukrainians have retreated the last 3-4 months in several places and they have acknowledged they had to retreat because of a lack of military equipment to stop the Russian advance.

They will soon have actual military equipment they asked for so its a very different reality now that the US package has been approved. The obvious objective of Russia is a successful summer counteroffensive but they wont achieve that objective meaningfully if they cant advance.

If the US package hadn't been approved it would be a different story and much harder to stop the Russian advance.
