Coronavirus in Poland

gumishu, why don't you scream bloody murder to the fact that the Polish government didn't prepare for the second wave ?

mafketis

What do you mean by the inevitable?

The virus spreading until it burns itself out.... viruses gonna virus.

the Irish government didn't prepare for the second wave

Seems that way...

Polish government was lulled by Poland escaping relatively unscathed from the first wave, then there was presidential election and then there were tensions within the ruling coalition - but i guess most countries in Europe were not completely ready for the second wave

the Polish government didn't prepare for the second wave

It didn't as it was campaigning for Andrzej Duda in summer, so Prime Minister Morawiecki triumphantly said: "we beat the virus".

I repeatedly heard Polish virologists on the radio and on TV in summer saying that we ddin't beat the virus and the autumn will be a hard time, possibly much harder than the winter. Did they say a smilar thing in the great United States of America?

The Polish government did not want to listen, and the virus was not amused with that and attacked in autumn.

I am telling you what Gumi will never tell you.

I admitted that the Polish government did not prepare (it was not expressis verbis but you can deduce it from what I wrote)

No excuse as you could say the same about Ireland being lulled by whatever, however the world was warned of the second wave being worse then the first.

With Poland's poor air quality in the winter time plus flu season and this being a lung infection plus the lack of hospital beds and trained personal, expect a lot of deaths this winter in Poland.

Prime Minister Morawiecki triumphantly said: "we beat the virus"

Talk about a ready made campaign ad..... for the other side.

The government hoped the worst was over but.... hope is not a plan. It's really unforgivable that they weren't better prepared... And that p1g Sasin had the nerve to criticize doctors (after wasting 70 million zloties of taxpayer money on elections everybody knew wouldn't take place .... how is that crook not in jail?)

On the bright side, fatality rates this time around are nothing remotely as bad as March-April, Italy has more or less double the positive test results now as then but only a fraction of the number of fatal cases (earlier the highest number of fatalities lagged behind the highest positive results only by a week or less).

Cold comfort maybe, but it does point toward a light at the end of the tunnel...

the Irish government didn't prepare for the second wave

The lack of intensive care beds is the result of years of under-funding of the health service, so it couldn't have been solved i ntime for a second wave.

The virus spreading until it burns itself out.

The virus in Ireland has been managed under the advice of team of experts comprising the National Public Health Emergency Team NPHET. They do not take that approach and to be fair they seem to know what they're doing. Their management got the R number down to about 0.4, with the cooperation of the Irish people. (The R rate never dropped that low in Poland.)When they saw cases rising a few weeks ago they recommended a return to Level 5 restrictions and the government ignored them. As a result, cases are growing and now Level 5 will be coming back for a period of six weeks. Click on the chart below to make it bigger.

it seems Poland is not alone in this

Level 5 will be coming back for a period of six weeks.

And as soon as it's lifted the virus will be back.... lockdowns don't stop virus spread, they only delay it (which might be a good goal but they need to be honest and clear about that).

I heard a crazy recording earlier today coming from a Polish ambulance driver arguing with hospitals, docs, dispatcher, etc. - no one wants to accept a covid patient that's in critical condition

Thank you, PiS.

With limited resource, what other option is there ?

Dirk diggler
21 Oct 2020  #3464

How is that PiS' fault? I could say that all the people who died in NYC and Chicago were the Democrat's fault.

pawian
21 Oct 2020  #3465

Where are they going to get the health workers ?

Exactly - hospitals are already understaffed, so who is going to take care of patients in stadiums??

poland-likely-to-impose-additional-coronavirus-restrictions

Yes, 1st November is a gigantic infection source - in cities, private cars are banned near cemeteries, so people are supposed to use public transport. At peak hours, buses and trams are packed like tins of sardines. Imagine those transmissions.

Yet, I hear that the government made a deal with the Church about not closing the cemeteries.

gumishu

baboons :) - does it ring a bell :P

I could say that all the people who died in NYC and Chicago were the Democrat's fault.

Wrong! Local councils had spent a lot of money in result of various PiS` deforms. Now they are on the verge of bankruptcy due to the first lockdown, ordained by PiS.

Dirk, it is the fourth time. Today is your bad day.

baboons :) - does it ring a bell :P

Are you drunk to joke at such serious topics like dying people??? You perfectly imitate PiS` approach.

Now they are on the verge of bankruptcy due to the first lockdown,

a not because of their lavish policies?

Are you drunk to joke at such serious topics like dying people???

National Guards are/have been trained to replace medical staff in some of their duties - that's what TVP says - if you want more transparency form the government I advise you to go back in time to the period of 2007-2015

mafketis

National Guards are/have been trained to replace medical staff in some of their duties - that's what TVP says

Which means it's probably a lie.....

years of under-funding of the health service

In other words.... austerity (demanded by..... who?)

Now the economy is going to be further demolished and what will the government's economic response to that be.... probably more austerity....

Atch

In other words.... austerity (demanded by..... who?)

It's not that simple. It's historic under-funding that went on for decades, even during the boom years of the economy. Ireland has never really pursued austerity as an economic policy. We chose it after the 2008 banking crisis (which was an absolute disgrace on the part of the government) because we had to keep the banks afloat. We brought that on ourselves and the people are as much to blame as anyone, with their greed and stupidity which were hallmarks of the Celtic Tiger.

So, I see that Poland is to turn conference centres into temporary hospitals also, making an additional 13,000 Covid beds. How do they propose to equip and staff those beds?? They don't have enough medical personnel to do that. Also, measures to ensure the elderly stay at home - but no details of what those measures are........perhaps I've missed something, anybody have more details on that?

mafketis
22 Oct 2020  #3471

How do they propose

My guess: nothing.... they'll just blame the healthcare system for it (conveniently not mentioning how they've starved it for years).
Sasin's criticism of doctors is what we call a trial balloon - people didn't call for his head (or do so loudly enough) so they know they can blame it on doctors and nurses....

measures to ensure the elderly stay at home - but no details of what those measures are......

They have no plans - all they do is lie to get through the moment. It's classic psychopathic behavior....

They don't have enough medical personnel to do that.

But they can make up lies and blame medical personnel..... after this ongoing debacle is over no honest person could possibly vote for that band of lying, psychopathic crooks.... this is all absolutely 100% on them for their failure to prepare....

22 Oct 2020  #3472

They are natural born killers....
This time Poles can`t blame foreign powers/invaders for killing them. Now it is Poles killing other Poles. We voted for them so we shall pay for it now. Not exactly me or you supported PiS in so many elections but as Poles, we also share this blame.

Sad, but for the best.

All Saints' Day will be a dangerous time with people meeting in crowded cemeteries.

They will ban it, or 'strongly discourage' it for sure.

things seem a worse in UK, Czech and Spain. There will be a third and fourth wave as well.

When you look at the numbers, the countries that had a rough March-April have very few fatalities, it's only the countries that got off lightly in March-April that things are getting rougher...

They hoped they were past the worse and simply made no plans..... awful people.

jon357

They will ban it

Hopefully. It's a potentially very dangerous time...

They hoped they were past the worse and simply made no plans

It looks that way.

And in Late Jan/February, there's cooler weather in parts of Africa as yet unaffected to deal with.
