Coronavirus in Poland

there isn't much that we can do about it until we find a vaccine.

Do tell us about that cure all vaccine that we are being brainwashed with to give us hope.
For the umteenth time, "Everyone in the world is going to end up getting covid and that includes YOU !"
The covid vaccine, like all other vaccines for viruses, will not prevent you from getting it, sorry to say.
We get flu vaccinations yet we still get the flu don't we.
Vaccines do not prevent you from getting viruses except for the polio vaccine.
The difference is that the covid is a live culture they will 'try' to boot us up with while the flu vaccines contain dead cultures.

So in essence they will be injecting us with a small amount of a live culture of covid to supposedly help us build up an immunity to covid so when we do catch it we won't die.

Since 99% of the people already don't die from it, I am thinking of taking my chances and skipping who knows what that Bill Gates wants to put into my body.

Lingering shortness of breath and diminished stamina have dogged many Covid patients whose lungs were viciously attacked by the coronavirus.
Early in the pandemic, doctors worried that Covid might cause irreversible damage leading to lung fibrosis progressive scarring in which lung tissue continues to die even after the infection is gone.

They still are not sure if it will be irreversible.

It seems to me that on this issue there is no middle ground allowed. Taking the virus seriously appears to imply that you are 100% in favour of all the restrictions and any reservations in some of the restrictions is often interpreted as denying the virus exists or trying to downplay it. Like with so many other issues people are getting increasingly polarised.

Yuvsdinho reported in the media that the United States is trying to increase its "biological presence" outside its territory, including in the former Soviet Republic. Moscow has learned that Washington provides Georgia with an opportunity to expand the scope of biological research projects in the country's laboratory in the United States called Lugar Labs. The United States may be studying materials that cause dangerous diseases.

Thats right Chrisshrew - any questioning of scientists seems to put you in the same boat as moon landing conspiracists.

But it is unrealistic to expect scientists ti understand simething that is just 9 months old and know all the answers. Politicians are under pressure to do something and end up machine gunnign restrictions - some heloful (wear a nask in the tram) and some dumb (wear a mask in your car)

Another problem is that many epoepl just see this as an opportunity to criticise already eccentric governments - whether its PiS, Boris or Trump. Its right ti hold them to account but even well run countries like Netherlands and Austria have found this difficult.

One of my close friend was admitted to hospital after trying to cover it for 10 days, his wife being a health worker had to pull strings to get ambulance after 5 hours. They have shortages of ambulances and tell you that it is not life threatening so no need of ambulance.Further he had to wait in ambulance for 3 hours to get admitted because of the ambulance line.covid test results take 4 days so the patients are not considered to be covid until test results confirm that.Hospitals in Warsaw are full so she managed ro get him in Pruszkow hospital.Ambulances are just driving around with patients for hours if you can get an ambulance. Finally if they get beds in a week then there are no doctors and nurses for them. His wife took her own respirator for him as the hospital didnt have any,It is really bad here in Poland now and getting worse by the hour.

Pawian will gloat now about PIS.

Yes, I can read tens of such stories, if not hundred, are taking place every day now. A contact with medical services right now is a road to perdition.

Pawian will gloat now about PIS.

I am tired of bashing those gangsters, I only hope Poles will remember about it at the next elections.

Another good thing about the masks is that they should decrease the amount of flu this winter.
A good enough reason for me to wear mine just because of that factor.

.covid test results take 4 days

In the last week a friend had to take the test (possible exposure to a non-symptomatic case) and the result came back the same day (negative). At least one of their colleagues also got the answer back the same day (also negative).

I'm used to Warsaw being.... not as well organized as some other Polish cities, but... 4 days?

.His wife took her own respirator

Since when do hospitals let patients bring their own medical equipment?

How does a health worker let a family member wait 10 days?

Nutso story, a bit hard to believe....

but... 4 days?

Yes Sir 4 days before he gets his results and declared covid positive, even though all the symptons show that.I bet your friend dont live in Warsaw, also it takes minimum of 31/2 hours in car line to get your test done in Warsaw,

How does a health worker let a family member wait 10 days?

I thought you lived in Poland?BTW he wants to eat jogurt so his wife has been sending him that(Hospital provides food too)
As you post about covid data everyday here try to learn something about the disease also. When you are found to be covid positive, you have to quarantine yourself for 14 days and only go to the hospital when you start getting seriously ill.Try getting admitted to a hospital in Poland or in the USA when they find you are covid positive only.

Nutso story, a bit hard to believe....

I dont expect you/anyone to believe for I care,I posted to let people know whats going on if they are in that situation.

Friend didn't use a care (doesn't have one). He went to a hospital and didn't have to wait long... There are also two places within easy walking distance of where I live that offer the test privately (without cars).

Warsaw is simply not the best place to live in Poland.....

How long did he have symptoms before trying to get admitted?

Finally,my friend got his positive results,in 21/2 days and also got moved to infectious disease hospital in wola with a pvt room. But if you dont know anyone here you will not even get a bed.40% of his lungs are damaged so they are giving him high doses of oxygen,3rd day today.

People are still freaking so careless,I see 5 people crammed in the elevator where even the sign says only 2 people in 3 languages.

Johhny, I fully realise that we should not lose our sense of humour in the worst of times, also during pandemics, it is a great Polish trait, however I feel obliged to notify you that you are disgusting now.

How are things? Hope you and the wife are ok.

So they're converting the Stadion Narodowy into a Covid hospital, but it will only have capacity for 500 patients which is a drop in the ocean. That would suggest that the public hospitals already have as many cases as they can handle. Also, they're in talks to take beds in private hospitals. I'm afraid it's bad news for people who need other forms of non-Covid medical care.

At present there are no additional restrictions planned for 1 November so that means people going all over the country spreading the virus further, not to mention the fact that there are always a disproportionate number of road accidents over that weekend, and a signifcant number of resultant fatalties, every year, without exception. It will be even worse this year with the hospitals and emergency services already stretched.

converting the Stadion Narodowy into a Covid hospital

reeks of bad planning.... as the saying goes "Hope is not a plan"....

no additional restrictions

What's with the very draconian restrictions being talked about/applied in Ireland? One person on twitter wrote that reaction at ground level is very negative to them...

Now officially Poland is in worse situation then the USA,population wise.
@cms:did your wife get her results and if yes how long did it take?

Thanks for asking - no Covid yet !. 2 Kids not tested but not showing any symptoms. We are still in quarantine though.

My wife's test took about a day and a half to get the results. In big towns I can imagine longer delays. For us the problem is that we had to be tested separately because we couldn't get Babcia to come and look after the kids - a lot of people are going to have that issue.

No,thats incorrect

I'm talking about stopping the world and his wife from roaming all over the country on 1 November to visit family and graves. At the moment, we haven't heard anything about that. The problem is that PIS have no balls and they don't like to 'upset' their voter base who will be outraged at being told that they can't put flowers and lamps on granny's grave. Now, I may well be proven wrong. They may show an ounce of common sense. They're having some kind of emergency meeting today so we'll see.

What's with the very draconian restrictions being talked about/applied in Ireland?

Case numbers are rising and the Irish health service wouldn't be able to cope, we don't have enough hospital beds basically. I'd say that public reaction is mixed. Some people very worried because of the damage to the economy and normal way of life, others in favour because they have a strong sense of responsibility for the wider community. In rural areas in particular in Ireland, people feel strongly about protecting the elderly and other vulnerable people.

@cms, glad to hear all is well :)

What about hospitalization rates? The seven day rolling average for fatalities has only slightly increased....

Is there any conscious realization (or government admission) that lockdowns will only delay the inevitable?

Almost no hospital in Warsaw has remdesivir, but somehow my friend managed to get it and is feeling better with it.The price of 1 dose is 500$ in Warsaw, and he has to have 5 doses, but still on ventilator 2 days 24 hrs a day. They say as the bed is empty in 5 minutes after changing sheets the new patient is on it.

rubbish not a third ,far far less there are far too many in hospital with covid that could be treated with therapeutics at home.

What about hospitalization rates?

The problem Maf is that we have very few intensive care beds, the lowest number in Europe I think. And obviously we need them for other things like heart patients. This week there are already one third of hospitals with no available intensive care beds and the government cannot simply ignore the increase in hospitalizations or we will end up without enough beds, so the restrictions have to be tigthened.

Is there any conscious realization (or government admission) that lockdowns will only delay the inevitable?

What do you mean by the inevitable?
