Coronavirus in Poland

But in February they said masks were actually more dangerous, in March they said they didn't work, in April you had to wear one, in August you didn't
Masks didn't become effective overnight - and someone who doesn't want to wear one outside is not an idiot. Because there is no evidence that they make a difference if you were just walking around in the street.
They are needed when walking but not went biking. They are needed when waiting at the bus stop but not when jogging. It just makes no sense So people are never going to respect a daft law
The self-righteousness is ridiculous and because of that masks are probably an extra danger because they are very divisive in society.
Wear one inside and do what you like outside - that would be a sensible rule.

But there is another intention behind it - make people get used to wearing masks everywhere so that they don`t forget to put them on inside. Besides, even outside it is possible to walk into a large crowd - what about bus and tram stops when a lot of people are waiting?
That is why I fully support the rule of wearing a mask everywhere - they should have introduced it long ago. Now it is too late - the milk has spilt.

I fully support the rule of wearing a mask everywhere -
Dumb rule - wearing masks is a double edged sword (especially since so many people end up touching their face more and/or using a bacteria-filled mask too long....
If no one is closer than 5 meters there's absolutely no reason to wear it.

Yes, so tell people not to get closer than 5 metres to you at a narrow city bus stop. And if they do, tell them to put on a mask. :):):)

So what science is this based on....

If no one is closer than 5 meters there's absolutely no reason to wear it.
Besides the fact if you have the virus and not know it your saliva particles get on everything every time you open your mouth.
New research indicates that droplets containing the new coronavirus can travel as far as 18 meters after a person sneezes, coughs, and even speaks.
Studies find COVID-19 coronavirus can survive 28 days on some surfaces, 11 hours on skin.
You touch a door handle, a shopping cart, a gas pump, some produce in a store, exchange money and leave your virus behind.
That should be reason enough to wear one not to mention respect for your fellow man.

If it spread that easily we would all have it by now. Are there really any cases of people being infected just pumping gas, visiting a bankomat or walking past a bus stop ?
Why is it dangerous walking but not when jogging ?
Why do yiu need a mask in the street in Slubice but not in Frankfurt one km away ? Any difference in numbers between those two towns ?

And?
You're not supposed to touch your face! Touching your face is a quick way to get infected.
But also it spreads mostly indoors, especially places with poor ventilation (very common in Poland considering the raw terror that the word 'przeciąg' seems to instill in Polish people...
Finally, go to google, type in (Country) covid stats October and compare the new cases vs fatalities... look at Italy, Germany, France, United Kingdom... lots of new cases and very, very low fatalities (in most cases no discernible increase over the last month... the countries with rises in fatality rates are those that went through the March-April wave relatively unscathed...

Now i see that one of the governments most stupid ideas is back - senior shopping hours.
Already proven to make lines longer and cause inflation

But at least the senior hours are only Mon-Fri. Last time it was Saturday too.

Oh - didnt kniw that ! Yes that is sensible because the car parks and roads were getting jammed on Saturday afternoons.

senior shopping hours
Quite honestly at this point it feels like politicians are just throwing random sh!t out there to look like they are "doing something".
I think they have embraced the "herd immunity" approach at this point, but don't want to admit to it because some alleged expert at the WHO will give them a raking over it and/or the left wing tvn press.

That may be true but there are many who may not have died but now have life long medical conditions....scarring of the lungs, tiredness etc....

The long Covid seems to be the next thing to scare us with after the first apocalypse did not happen - In that respect it has a lot of similarities with the heterosexual AIDS scare that ruined my teenage years.
Some people have lifelong damage, most don't and in any case there isn't much that we can do about it until we find a vaccine.

But at least the senior hours are only Mon-Fri.
Here in my State it is the first hour of the day.
Us old farts get in and out before it gets infected by little kids running around getting everything sticky.
And of course the little snot eaters that are most contagious are not required to wear masks.
but now have life long medical conditions....scarring of the lungs, tiredness etc...
BINGO ! Spot on ! Excellent point !
I am one of them with scarred lungs AND heart.
We are called 'Long Haulers' (google it) that the doctors in America refuse to even try to treat.
The only thing that has helped me is a C-pap machine.
With that said.......excellent point made Braveheart.

Indeed. For Germany the approx. rate is roughly 10 people with long-term, possibly lasting damage for every person who dies of Covid.

well I'm in quarantine waiting for a test :) kid's teacher has it :(
probably my reward for insisting the schools re-open. What did Alanis Morrissette call it ?
anybody else ? seems to be spreading very quick in big towns the last week

well I'm in quarantine waiting for a test :)
A good friend found out Wednesday he'd been (sort of) exposed to a person who later tested positive (no symptoms). Had the test Thursday morning and it came back negative that night. They did a nasal and throat swab...

I'm wondering what the best case is... negative (and still lots of precautions) or asymptomatic positive... stay at home a couple of weeks and stop worrying about it for a few months at the very least....

negative (...) or asymptomatic positive
That's a difficult choice, @mafketis. Consider this: would you rather have negative income or asymptomatic positive income? ;-)

You're not supposed to touch your face!
No, eyes and mouth and nose only You can still touch your cheeks, chin, forehead.
If you wear a mask properly, you don`t touch your mouth and nose. So, remember to be careful about the eyes and everything will be fine and the mask won`t contribute to spreading the virus, as you suggest.

OK, so we've got a new anti-covid regime and 99% people in Poland, Germany, France, Czech etc. wear masks in fear maybe not so much of a deadly virus but having trouble with the police.
Surely now the deadly virus must give up and tap out. There's no place to hide anymore. Our "experts" have told us that by wearing a piece of dust mask on our beautiful mugs and keeping 2 meter distance we will eliminate the risk of infection practically to 0%.
Because if it doesn't vanish, and even get more people infected with coronaflu, that would mean that those measures don't work and Sweden was right from the beginning.
Those European "experts" would rather kill more people by stuffing hospitals "Bergamo style" than admitting that they were wrong.
And the mob will cheer and jamm any voice of sanity coming from "corona deniers" and some other[/i] freaks[/i] like me who don't believe in magical powers of dust masks...

Masks reduce the risk of infection significantly, but even the masks for hospital staff dont guarantee total safety. Nobody ever claimed otherwise.

Nobody ever claimed otherwise.
And what would be your opinion of the matter if the number of infected would rise significantly now when we've got strict mask regime compared to the past period where mask weren't mandatory?
