I believe that was from the IMF, but not attributed to her directly. It's actually a very fair point - most countries don't have the ability to deal with a massive amount of retiring people over the next 20 years, and countries like Poland where the social insurance system is already operating at a huge deficit are likely to be hurt badly by it.

I remember chatting about this to one very, very intelligent parent, and he said that his opinion was that we should prepare for 10-20% additional income tax in the years to come simply to keep paying the promised pensions.

Interesting that the PM is meeting with business leaders on Monday to discuss bringing back colored zones for restrictions. The Health Minister is trying to say business will stay closed until April. If that is the course they take, one of two things will happen. Poland will see an economic disaster on the scale of the depression, or business owners will actually revolt in masses and just reopen.

The plenty of places are reopening now with creative ways and the government threat is that those that open will not get any government assistance. Government will to pay 70% of losses they can prove. If I own a hotel or dining establishment, I would rather get 100% of my income than 70% of what I made last year if I can prove it. The red tape to get that 70% will of course be astronomical.

While I dont subscribe to the conspiracy theories, the more they can get sheep to follow them, the more likely they will continue to use the same techniques to keep the sheep in line.

Also I have noticed Polish people have no personal space. even in the beginning of the pandemic thy would get like body to body behind me at the 24 hour carefour in old town or the żabka on the corner right behind you literally touching you. at first i told them to give me space but there is no polish word or phrase for personal space so at first they were confused what I was talking shout eventually he moved but it happened so often i just let it go.

also at those stupid dive bar pijalnia bars in Warsaw newr nowy swiat or the one on nowy swiat specifically I saw they didn't even ash the dishes or beer glasses but just rinse them with water and serve in them again and this was during the pandemic.

It is funny how polish people act like Chinese when it comes to personal space and accountability you can see it in polish airlines plane when the plane lands they all race to grab their bags and shove everyone out of the way and no personal space again but they claim on here people like iron how against communism they are when they act like people form all around the world living under communism regimes where there are still long lines to get toilet paper or food.

Reading the "second shield" qualifications, small business simply wont get money. The qualifications are poorly written, and most if not all business will find it impossible to qualify. There isn't even another 5000 pln payment from Voivodeships this time if you are staying open during the lockdown.

After 10 months now, the USA is actually looking better than Poland. At least they are pumping out vaccine while Poland gives it to 30 people a day in most rural cities. Forget starting with Warsaw, Krakow, and all the other major business cities to the country can get moving again. That would make too much sense. Lets get the old folks in homes shots first instead of just keeping them safe.

I wouldn't say the Covid acts like a typical seasonal respiratory virus.....it is a virus that people can catch throughout the year, whether it be Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter....its just as dangerous in the Summer as it is in Winter.....

Seeing those people skiing today rang alarm bells...when you see them queing for the ski lift, shuffling close to each other and breathing heavily from a run down the slope...it's perfect for spreading the virus....the operators should be organising some sort of distancing with the queues...clearly isn't happening and irresponsible....if they cannot act responsibly then they shouldn't open....if everyone took responsiblity instead of blaming others then it would be possible to enjoy those things which we have missed out on in recent months....

I mean pretty much everywhere, you get an increase in hospitalization for about 6-8 weeks then a plateau and a fall.... and fatalities follow more or less two weeks behind

the pcr tests are very inappropriate for determining in someone actually has covid so hospitalization/fatality rates are appropriate measures

And it's worth remembering that the paper most governments' covid responses was based on was published two days after submission (in other words no peer review) and a number of scientists have since reviewed it and found it..... wanting.

The first secenario is that vaccination goes smoothly and most people will have been protected by 2022.

The second - it doesn`t go smoothly. Like now.
Third - decreasing immunity
Fourth - new mutations will abolish the efffect of the vaccine
Fifth - a new virus will appear in 2022

It's not that bad. The government is making a mess of the vaccination schedule, but we're on par with Germany which is good enough for me.

I really hope some of my very vulnerable colleagues get vaccinated soon, though.

No, actually we did not. The Merkel gov caught alot of flak for that...not being vaccine-nationalistic enough...it's seen as the reason we didn't buy enough doses.

Germany took care to buy vaccine as a "bloc" for all of the EU with all of the EU...NOT going alone and buy as much as we could afford, and that was that!

What's more rubbish is that the Polish government has just given up 6m vaccines for no apparent reason.

That is actually true and something our government gets a lot of flak for now. Because in taking a European solution, we caved in to Eastern European demands to not order to much of the expensive vaccine, and to French demands to not order more vaccine from BionTech than from a Frnch company. Which now means that we get less vaccine than e.g. Israel or UK, despite having developed it.

Thankfully we now ordered a new batch, but it will take time for it to arrive.

Not rubbish...we won't get the other 30 Million doses of that vaccine by Biontech/Pfizer for any time soon as they just declared delivery shortage....we have a vaccine shortage because we bought it together with all of the EU.

Now we wait for another 50 Million doses from Moderna, again together with the rest of the EU!

Had Germany acted totally nationalistic we would have no vaccine shortage right now...

Finally. That's "democracy". What we have today and a softer version of the USSR and Nazi Germany. When one guy has more power than 100% - 1, something went terribly wrong when laws were being written. At least, and their credit for honesty, China doesn't bs its citizens about "democracy".

In more highly motivating news the PM has said now that EU funds for business will probably be available in the third quarter of 2021. Certainly in time to pay for all the business funerals that will take place between now and then.

On a positive note, gyms will reopen on Feb 1. Largely due to the fact that they had said they will reopen anyway. More and more hotels and eateries defying lockdown measures. Going to the mountains myself at the end of the month to enjoy some dinner and drinks.

I guess I will get the vaccine first in the US as I registered for with NJ health dept and also with Polish govt site over 3 weeks back and just got email that I am eligible but no appointments available and they will get back to me but no response from the Polish Govt yet.

I have been in Florida all week where everything is open and back to normal except for everyone still wearing muzzles.
It is so nice to go out for dinner and drinks.

Have to spend my government stimulus virus check on something.
Did you see where 43 States announced a decline in positive covid tests 48 hours after Biden was sworn in.

That virus likes the gullible more.

Luuuuckky... see that's what I miss I think the most - being able to go out and eat at a nice restaurant, go bowling, go to the club, see a movie, etc.

At least the casinos are open and my stimulus check came in yesterday - I think over the weekend I'll make it interesting and put it on the roulette table =D In the worst case they'll comp my stay and food, but no massages now by a young blonde till further notice...
