EU will approve Russian vaccine in next month or two. too many countries have broken ranks already making EU look even more useless than usual. Poland is the only one out of V4 holding out.

Poland is part of NATO and EU and share (and nurtures them) strategic interests with Russia and China. Geo-strategically speaking, Poland is now invulnerable. Neutral on global military alliances but not officially neutral. And all wants Poland for partner.

Thanks to Brussels? No. Its rather, Racowie are back and ancient lines of interests are restored. And its only for starter of reset in Europe.

Given the slowness of the rollout, limiting the sources of vaccines is perhaps not the wisest of strategies. Like with anything, the more options you have the greater the chance of success. Of course certain procedures need to be followed with regard to safety but I don't think Russian or Chinese vaccines should be disregarded outright just because they happen to be from those particular countries.

I think the process will start speeding up soon. I see that the wait between the 1st and 2nd jab is being extended which will help and with the news that the 1st jab could be 80% effective this shouldn't be a problem. That's not to say that the 2nd is pointless as I get the impression that its more of a booster for the long term but not as much a priority.

I hope that extending the wait for the 2nd jab isn't used as an excuse to extend the restrictions when the time comes. Even in the UK I hear there are calls by some to extend the restrictions well beyond the completion of the rollout, even to the point of reimposing lockdowns in the Winter months. This sort of measure would be more or less impossible to implement however imo and only taken seriously by those who think a zero covid policy is a realistic goal.

Reliable stats for Poland are very hard to find.
The one that has amazed me is how Poland only had 133 cases of the flu reported last year which was an extremely sharp decline.
Was that because some of these flu cases were intentionally reported as Covid to boost the Covid numbers ?

I'm assuming that everyone with serious flu symptoms gets tested for covid and the pcr tests (not the most accurate tool) report it as covid and that's how they get treated....

If they find a dead guy with a bullet in his head and covid, is it covid? If he doesn't have the virus but a letter that he killed himself because he couldn't take the government covid terrorism, is that covid?

In a sense, they aren't from those countries. The manufacturing is contracted out to other countries, India and other parts of the developing world particularly, and the issues around quality control (together with the veracity of clinical trials) are part of the reason they haven't been approved.


That's something that obviously nobody wants and would depend on infection rates and death rates if a new mutation causes a surge.

Well, I guess if a vaccine resistant mutation was able to enter from somewhere with high cases and no vaccine rollout perhaps. It seems like the main variants can be dealt with by the vaccine so far thankfully. Can never rule anything out of course but I think if such a variant was discovered every single country wouldn't take any chances.

This is likely. The Brazil mutation is a worry, as are a couple of others. We can probably expect further lockdowns should the strain on hospitals increase.

Well by not taking any chances I was thinking about the closure of borders. While lockdowns are sometimes necessary, it's already too late if that becomes the case and should always be a last resort.

They do that too, however between Poland and most of its neighbours there aren't any real borders and plenty of people working in one state and commuting from the other (c.f Gorlitz/Zgorzelec, Cieszyn, Swinoujscie/Szczecin/Anklam). Plus plenty of people with feet in more than one country. There are however 'red lists' of countries which are in effect a border closure (or in the UK, a mandatory hotel quarantine).
