Coronavirus in Poland

PolAmKrakow

@Tacitus
If you move to China you can have your new normal. I think the rest of us in Poland feel we prefer the old normal.

It would be great if wearing them became the new normal, at least during the flu season.

It would be great if only paranoid lefties keep wearing their mask so we can easily spot them.

Are you really to stupid to understand the logic behind this?

A. It's too, not to.
B. You are too stupid to notice that I wrote "refuse", not "unable".
C. There are people who are blind and can't cross 55-mph, 4-lane roads safely. That does not mean that I have a legal obligation to stop, get out of my car and assist.

D. Duh!

That's exactly what is happening already. I went to Madison to see the leftists there and invite a couple to lunch. I noticed immediately how differently people "comply" with their own, self-imposed mask idiocy - while OUTSIDE!

Orientals - 95%
Women - 60%
Men with women with masks 80%
Young white guys 0%

When I asked one in the last group what the fu*ck is the matter with the idiots wearing masks, he said: It's a cult now.

The number one problem with the brainless do-gooders is that they never use numbers. To them, numbers and statistics are hate speech.
Safetism and its followers are prime examples of that syndrome regarding masks. To them, forcing 100,000,000 vaccinated to wear masks to protect X unvaccinated is normal because it feels good. Never mind the logic, stats, and plain common sense. In the Church of Safetism, just as in any other church, none of this matters.

In this case, the brainless followers will never tell you what X must be to justify making the rest of us miserable, sweaty, and short of breath.

Is X=1 sufficient? How about X=10? Too low, right, a-holes?

OK, Tacitus, what's the lowest X to justify masks for all forever?

Also, in your insane world, those with asthma, after a heart attack, and overweight be - will they be exempted from wearing those dust shields to protect the few unvaccinated?

Could we demand that the unvaccinated wear red jackets just as you are willing to force me to wear a mask?

Life would so boring without morons.

Tacitus

wear masks to protect X

They also protect themselves, as pointed out several times now the vaccination does not offer 100% protection. If you can't understand this, you have no basis for arguing with statistics. Wearing masks is such an efficient safety measure with no drawback that no rational person would argue against it. The protection of yourself and others against numerous diseases versus the slight discomfort while wearing them, yeah that is a tough decision.

They also protect themselves, as pointed out several times now the vaccination does not offer 100% protection.

You are worse than I thought on two counts: (1) Nobody, even the Chinese agency aka WHO or the CDC, ever claimed that masks protect the wearer. My spit can enter into your eyeballs and down into your lungs just as easily. (2) My protection is my own damn business and my decision. Period. What's next? Limit on how far I can walk before I hurt my knees?

Deciding for yourself - a concept that is foreign to a well-trained German.

with no drawback

the slight discomfort

So which one is it? No drawback or slight discomfort?

What is "slight"? Is "slight" as slight to a 16-year-old healthy guy as it is to an old guy with asthma? BTW, I don't have it and I just walked 4 miles in 65 minutes, so don't go there. No, I couldn't have done this with Tacitus muzzle.

Either way, it's my decision - a concept that is foreign to a well-trained German.

It's extremely uncomfortable - the moment I get in my car I can't wait to get the stupid thing off me.

There is a huge drawback - it obliterates 50 percent of human communication - you have to shout at each other, you cannot use your face to convey emotion, can't smile at pretty girls.

I'm so sick of the idea that masks, closed shops and stupid documents are normal.

Maybe a starting point would be a conclusive study that masks work. 15 billion have been sold, 50:countires have made them mandatory for a year. That's enough time to provide a scientific evidence that they work. The best study I have seen so far is from a small hairdresser in St Louis.

There have been already studies on the usefulness of masks.

You protect others while wearing them and yourself.

No drawback or slight discomfort?

Slight discomfort is no drawback, compared to the risk of a potentially deadly disease.

My spit

If spit was the problem this disease wouldn't be so contageous, but I doubt anybody can be so ignorant after more than year of this pandemic.

old guy with asthma?

I don't know how it is in other countries, but you can get an exception for wearing a mask on medical grounds, but the asthmatic colleague I have preferes to wear his mask since he knew that getting the virus could be a death sentence for him.

a concept that is foreign

It would be fine if your decision only affected you. You can drink yourself to death anytime you want. But your decision also potentially others. People who can not get a vaccination, family members and so on. I suppose this is the difference between you and me. The prospect that I could give this virus to others because I feel slight discomfort while wearing masks horrifies me. It is not something I'd want to take responsibility for when St. Peter calls my name.

Hey, Tacitus, what is the minimum value of X?

PolAmKrakow
22 May 2021  #6494

@Tacitus
You, or anyone else trying to force me to wear a mask to protect someone else is simply not going to fly. People, myself included, are not afraid of the virus and will not be forced to live in fear or compliance to a non science based rule. Masks are not effective and they even say so on the packaging.

Maybe those who don't get vaccinated should wear a gold star on their coats? Or we should all have to show documents at check points? Sounds very familiar.

This study has only one real world number given. A 2 percent reduction in states where mask mandates are required. Very shaky evidence and a marginal gain at most.

The rest is models and predictions from 2020. But it's 2021 and considering the trillions governments spent on Covid you would have thought we could see a real world study that said e.g. wearing a flimsy mask all day reduces transmission by 50 percent.

In terms of covid, a lot of people have never mentally moved past March 2020 and still believe lots of the early hype (asymptomatic transmission, contact transmission, exponential growth etc) that has been disproven.

Fetishizing masks and lockdowns is part of that.

Saturday numbers

percent of positive test results: 2.61 % (of 58,145 tests ... lowest percentage I've seen )

hospital admissions: -604 to 8596 (17th day of negative numbers)

deaths: 191 (over 100 fewer than last Saturday)

from the previous day*: 7 day moving average of daily deaths: 197 (down 14 from yesterday)

*the source I use is a day behind and I'm too lazy to calculate on my own

Novichok

reduces transmission by 50 percent.

"Transmissions" - just another weasel word, next to "cases". It's hospitalizations and deaths that count.

"my body, my choice" supporter types now demanding that everyone get vaxxed

...but refuse to admit that abortions have an impact on everybody, just like not wearing masks. All of a sudden, it's your body but I will tell you what you must wear on your face.

A 2 percent reduction in states where mask mandates are required

Thanks for this damning number. 2 percent is noise.

The worst part about it is how many otherwise seemingly intelligent people are flipping out about covid. They bought into the brainwashing about masks, vaccines, ruining small businesses, etc. all over a virus with an under 1% mortality rate...

johnny reb
22 May 2021  #6505

. all over a virus with an under 1% mortality rate...

How many have been hospitalized from the virus and how much did those costs add up to ?
ie: hospital bills, home care, time off work, etc. ?)

Novichok
22 May 2021  #6506

all over a virus with an under 1% mortality rate...

To me, the reference country is Japan - a country as modern and affluent as it gets. And "democratic". Their mortality rate - 100 deaths per million.

Yeah, but it's an island! Duh!
So is the UK with its deaths per million of 1900. That's 19 times higher! Or are the Japs smarter and know how to tell "from" from "with"?

More likely, the difference is that the Brits, like the US and other self-indulgent "democracies", are fat and stupid. Those two usually go together. Just not sure if as cause and effect or correlation.

Just in case that horse is still alive, masks are nothing more than a PR tool to promote "awareness" and as effective as the diet pills that work like magic - if, according to the fine print, you reduce what you eat by half.

What the masks do at best is make us look at others like they are leppers, avoid seeing our families, and abuse hand disinfectants. Then, masks, like those diet pills, really work.
