That is exactly the idea..... the super scary "Delta variant" (which has caused no change to hospitalization rates or mortality in the UK) seems to be a bust so far so it'll be interesting to see how they try to continue restrictions on movement....

Probably only 'super scary' because they're not sure whether the vaccine will work on it. At this stage Corona is here to stay in its various forms and mutations and the Corona vaccine industry is here to stay too, as they keep coming up with new ones.

One theory is that it doesn't exist at all, it's really a case of mistaken identity and that it's really hay fever which is why those who don't get it don't get hospitalized or die...

...tell you everything in less than three seconds because somebody smarter than maf is doing it every single day. Think this way: the world compiles such data with or without maf. From that website, I know more about Poland's corona than 99% of Poles.

What about the government's claims concerning active case numbers? How do you think that's compiled?

What about hospitalization numbers, what do you think of them?

What about mask compliance on the street? On public transport? In stores?

None of that means squat to anyone. Answer this: How does knowing the rate of mask compliance affect anyone? Say, it's 30%. Now what? How about 45%. Who gives a damn? Are you going to stay home if it's 30 and go for a walk if it's 45?

Same with the hospitalization rates. Nobody ever said, oh, they have more beds. Time to get sick. Right?

Information has value only if it leads to different decisions. If no decision can be made, it's noise and its value is actually less than zero because noise displaces real information.

The hospitalization rates demonstrate what percentage of infected people are seriously ill and that is extremely relevant to all of us in terms of determining how we lead our lives during this period. Does it really matter if we go to a crowded place and catch the virus? Probably not, in most cases. Most of us won't become seriously ill and we certainly won't die. The main issue for most individuals at this stage is not a health issue but a moral dilemma - whether by spreading the virus through indiscriminate contact, we may be responsible for infecting a vulnerable person. That's up to each person to decide for themselves. You can't legislate for that because people will always find ways and means to circumvent legislation. The only things governments can do is try to ensure that hospitals continue to run as normally as possible for the general public and for those who are ill with other serious conditions.

Now the highlight of everybody's day (at least those who can count) !!!!! The numbers!!!!!

Interesting - exactly the same percentage as yesterday's figures.

the new normal percentage seems to be about 0.30 per cent of tests... if delta hysteria reaches Poland that the number of cases will probably increase but not mortality or hospitalization....

the big mystery is why the Polish government insists there are 153,000 active cases - there's no way to make the numbers fit based on hospitalization and positive test results...

Even if you count all quarantine cases as active... the numbers don't come close to adding up....

What is happening?

Name one decision you made based on the hospitalization rates. You, personally, looked at the numbers and decided to do X instead of Y.
The same based on mask compliance rates.

This might be hard to believe, but some people think about more than their own skins... Some people are interested in the broader implications of facts and figures and can actually think about other people....

I would have done it already if you answered my question that was clear and simple, but oh so inconvenient because it hurt feeeeelings. Even the author doesn't know why the data he posts is useful. Instead, he immediately got personal and nasty.

Mask requirements are useful as it helps me in avoiding places that require masks. Mask compliance has zero utility value because it is general, not location-specific.

It's interesting that you and others didn't comment on my posts. Instead, you got personal because you had nothing better to say.

Back to covid...The value from seeing the graphs in worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/poland/ is intangible as it shows that the end is near. It makes us feel better instantly and for the rest of the day. As good as it feels, though, it's still not good enough for planning trips, for example, since there is no guarantee that the restrictive rules will not be re-imposed while we are away. Hence, even the current rules are worthless from that point of view.

Hospitalization rates? Give me a break...

1- it doesn't have to be useful as long as people want to read it. Put it down as entertainment if you wish
2- the data shows us how the country is doing pandemic wise. Do the numbers look as scary as the media would like us to believe? Is the healthcare strained to the point of bursting etc. It gives you a broader look. You, the self proclaimed lover of statistic should appreciate that.
