Death rate is percentage of the population that has or had the virus that eventually died...

That 8% is from the latter - those who died out of the total cases (2.9k) / total cases (35k cases)

If we're looking at the total population whether world, country, etc. then yes a small fraction of the total population is infected and an even smaller fraction died as a result.

There is a silver lining though - since governments are finally patrolling their borders (which they should've been doing this whole time) the amount of turd worlders looking for handouts in places like Germanistan will fall.

I think I'd rather be treated in an alley. I'd have better chances of beating the corona, than the impending cave in.

....they plan in Berlin to pull up a brand new hospital (But it is said it will be already done in 3 weeks from now...

I would be glad when we don't need three years, thank you!

Here's something interesting:

"What my company is doing is adapting antibodies to recognize and neutralize the novel coronavirus. So this would ... [be] sort of skipping what a vaccine does," Glanville said. "Instead of giving you a vaccine and waiting for it to produce an immune response, we just give you those antibodies right away. And so within about 20 minutes, that patient has the ability to neutralize the virus."

foxnews.com/media/dr-jacob-glanville-antibody-neutralize-coronavirus

I read about this guy's lab before. His lab has been working on a general flu vaccine that will cover all strains of flu. He has an interesting approach to his work.

That's the thing I posted before....where they found this antibody in a lama!!!

Ohhhhhh....that's why you need to translate all of these German articles you're posting fast and furious, BB--we need to be fully informed, for crying out loud!

I thought you said the group was out of Flanders, though.

That 8% is from the latter -

No, it's not. Nobody knows how many are infected in the US, for example. Without that number nobody can calculate the mortality rate due to the virus.

The only number we know is how many died, not the mortality rate.

It's not coronavirus that would kill us all but mass shootings on the streets over a roll of toilet paper :-)

BTW: has anyone turned into zombie yet?

I looked for an english speaking source before but couldn't find any..

I really think we need to keep an eye out for that anti-body thingie!

And Poland being criticized for taking such swift and hard action closing borders, schools and public places? Looks like acting fast has really helped slow things. Amazing how people ignored the warnings about close contact.

British tourists in Spain seem to be taking a lax approach to the Coronavirus outbreak.

Poland - 9

There are more than 9 cases in Poland!

Ireland - 113

We have 557.
You need a better news source!
The numbers increase daily. Yesterday in Ireland we had 336, today 557 but apparently that's because we're doing a lot of testing. You can request a test with only slight symptoms. Incidentally you might like to know that Croke Park has been turned into a drive through test centre :)

In practice, Poland just isn't testing people quickly enough. There are many reports of people struggling to get the testing that they need, and there's a huge backlog of tests as well.

Generally speaking, if you're not a high risk, then you're being told to stay at home and suffer.

PolAmKrakow

Generally speaking, if your not in a high risk group, and you dont feel well, even if it is coronavirus, you will survive at home. People going to get tested who arent experiencing serious symptoms are going to slow down and contribute to problems. Its pretty simple. If you dont feel well, even with regular flu, tell everyone to stay away. If you feel really bad then go to the hospital. Common sense goes a long way, and being aware of your surroundings when out and about in any situation will usually keep you alive.

Well, drastic circumstances require drastic measures, but I hope Gaelic games come back to CP soon.

The problem is the people who feel well but have the virus and are unwittingly spreading it. That's the reason for testing as many people as possible and that's the reason people are being asked to stay home if they can, even if they feel well. It's to slow down the spread of the virus so that the health services can cope.

"Diamond Princess" cruise ship case:

3711 passengers, one with coronavirus traveled together for 14 days (that's exactly coronavirus incubation period). They shared a strictly confined space toghether, much denser than a city. They haven't learn that there was one infected passenger on board until 2 weeks later when he was take off board and they socialized freely.

The results:

712 infected (19% of total pop.) of which 318 had no symptoms whatsoever and 387 had mild symptoms like with common flu and all of them recovered.

Only 7 (out of 3711 passengers in total) died because of it. That gives us 0,18% mortality rate just like common flu.

Switch off TV's and switch on brains people
