Coronavirus in Poland

How ? Build more tills ? Open longer ? Make people do a trolley dash ?

It just shows that they did not think the restrictions through - just pulled some nonsense out that would make them look tough.

Normal for Poland.

Where is the borderline between a short walk and a long walk. How should these walks be measured: by the time used or by the distance habving been walked? An 80 year old person walks rather slowly, so he/she will cover a relatively short distance, but will need a relatively long time for it. Will such a walk walk be considered short or long?

Has our venerable government provided any clues with regard to the question of "long walks"?

They didn't mention length of walks, just limited access to some nice places to walk.

So job done - people already panic buying again, and working out that to shop they will need to travel further away. Absolute idiocy from the government.

Krakow Planty is open, so are other green spaces around the city. Straz going around with announcements blasting from speakers. This really wont change much here other than shopping. But with so many small stores it shouldnt be too difficult as long as you stocked up some before these additional restrictions.

Wrong - small stores are more expensive, have one till, have no parking (so you are not able to carry as much) and half of the shelves are full of beer.

It is totally bone headed

I went shopping this morning, knowing something would change today. Simple planning ahead and everyone can really just relax. This was a reaction to the nice weather last week, and a prep for the nice weather coming next week. Lock it down a little tighter and next week wont be as bad as it could be. There is some rational thought behind this, but another week of this is a bit overkill.

The borders are closed. So people infecting other people are the ones who simply wont listen and stay inside. If borders are closed for two weeks, and everyone is social distancing for two to three weeks after, this really should be limited. Of course I am just looking at the incubation period and am no scientist.

But you are not the typical punter. Most poles are trying to raise a family with a couple of kids, and living paycheck to paycheck. Stores have cut their capacity by 60 to 70% and you would have to be pretty smart advance planning to anticipate that.

There is a lot of mathematics and a lot of thought that needs to go into retail operations, supply chains and perishable goods and it is clear that the government has not given any thought to that at all or consulted anybody with experience

If this restriction is still in place next week when people get paid it will be total chaos.

Data for the 31th of March 2020 (afternoon hours; an increase on the data of 27th of March in brackets):

Poland: cases 2,215; deaths 32 . [81,4% -- 100% ]
Germany: cases 67,065 -- deaths 682 [52,6% -- 155%]
The UK: cases 22,141 -- deaths 1408 [89,9% -- 143,6%]

Conclusion: In all three countries, number of deaths has increased by around 150% (Poland will follow suit, I think). Number of cases confirmed rose by 80-90% except for Germany where it rose by only 52%. Figures for Poland are statistically less relevant as they are too small.

Former conclusion of the 27th of March 2020: The percentage increase in the number of confirmed cases and number of deaths is roughly of the same range in all the three countries considered.

Mass media "pandemic" for dummies has killed whole 32 people in a 38 000 000 nation. The economy was put on hold and health system put under stress and overwhelemed by mass hysteria.

And now people will actually start dying because of delayed treatment of circulatory disorders, coronary diseases etc. But they are invisible: nobody has put a counter for them on onet.pl because it's not a trendy subject as "coronavirus".

My conclusion: Chinese flu infects brains first and foremost before it even get to lungs...

I know it's about Poland, but, just for reference, 250,000 people die every month in the US, many for the reasons that are 100% preventable.
With the typical mortality rate of 1% per year, that's 30,000 in Poland. That's 1000 per day. Every day.

While it could look that way from your point of view, a NYC like scenario was likely avoided because action was taken within 7 days of the first confirmed case here. In USA it took over three months. Calling people home to all countries was the biggest mistake IMO. Infected people left countries, and contaminated more on the way, sending masses of infested people back to their homes. All of the huge rising numbers coming within the time frames of incubation for this virus of 4 to 14 days.

Poland may have been harsh in their actions, but at least they acted. USA will have tens of thousands dead because they didnt want to panic people back in January. Funny, better to panic now with sick and dying everywhere or before it actually happens?

That Poland vs the US comparison reveals the difference between a policy to protect the tribe and an obsession to protect "civil rights" at any cost, all else be damned, as long as people feel better - even for a moment.

Yes to a certain extent, but what about the thousands of Poles returning for Easter or just simply wanting to return to Poland.....I would guess that this is a high risk situation and one which could result in spreading the virus further.....are these travellers being checked or free to roam...?

Everyone should have stayed put 3 weeks ago. Probably 3 months ago. Poland is closed, no one is coming or going for Easter. This isnt a holiday and people wanting to "come home" should have done so when they could. Now, everyone needs to sit at home and watch bad TV.

It's amazing how many homegrown, self-proclaimed scientists, virologists and doctors we have these days! :D

However, as a simple engineer, I will not undermine the opinion of real scientists and doctors. If they think that, at this stage,
we should stay at home, then I intend to listen to them, because I acknowledge the fact that their knowledge about virology,
epidemies etc. is far greater than mine. I am not a specialist on everything (as opposed to some people here :)).

But as engineer that only solves one equation - reducing the damage of the Coronavirus.

What about the collateral damage and unforeseen consequences ? Economic damage causes many deaths from alcohol, crime, depression, blood pressure and cardiac issues, narcotics and nutrition issues. The virologists have only been given one problem to solve and their simple solution of stay at home might end up causing more premature deaths.

People,should stay put but the simple truth is many will be bringing money that their families depend on - with banks and post offices shut * then they might be bringing it all in their hatbands.

This is why we rely on our governments to combine the best of all the specialists to give us the best overall advice.

A great example is the cancelling of all doctors appointments - in Poland there will be literally thousands of 50/50 tumors in cases like skin cancer, leukaemia, throat cancer etc that will be picked up a few months too late.

Thats not nazi, that reality. In extreme situations, people lose temper. When you fly italians or french to Germany and plug them on breathing machines and few days later you tell german citizems their grandma must die, because no place in hospital is left...no army could contain the mob. People would storm hospital and rip those foreigners out of the beds.

Thats how humans are always and evrywhere. Civilisation is a thin veil that can easily be ripped apart.

I saw people at the Post today, and banking is working fine on line, some banks are open. Western Union still works fine, and the Kantors are giving great exchange rates now. Money is not an issue except for the business operators and employees who can no longer earn it.

The government, all governments are to blame for this mass spread. They waited too long. Now there is death and economic consequences to pay. All in the name of not wanting to cause a panic too soon.

China though must somehow pay for this. Continuing on as it has been in light of this pandemic started by them, not the first one either, would be spitting in the faces of the dead. I will simply not buy a chinese made product if there is another avail able from another country even if it costs a little more. That is the only way China will learn. Take away their money and you make them irrelevant.

When we are at Corona, Americans and EU, do you know brate Vesko that in about two years euro money won`t exist? That`s what I heard and you know that I know. So if you have some euros in savings exchange that for something better.

Corona is just one of things that will befall European continent in a very short period of time.
