Coronavirus in Poland

There's a difference between a simple mask meant to prevent other people from being infected by you (and which can be reused) and what hospitals need which is meant to protect the wearer and which is single use.... The first can be very basic, the second not so much....

I'm seeing lots of masks already outside, probably over 66 per cent of the people I see from my window are wearing masks....

Lockdown extremism is becoming tiresome for most of the population - they are already complaining about the effects of the pooorky thought out shopping rules. My wife went to Biedronka today at 4an (at least that's where she said she was going )

More and more people out and about as the weather gets nicer. I don't see the government being able to maintain control beyond the end of the month. Already young people talking about running out of savings by the end of the month.

Yes precisely - the crunch time is end of April early May when businesses will have no cash to pay people.

Testing is increasing but not nearly enough to take advantage of the lockdown.

I imagine the reason for the masks is so that the restrictions can be lifted to some extent at the end of April. It'll be a compromise. Shops and businesses will be allowed to reopen but parks etc will probably remain closed, no concerts or big gatherings but what about restaurants........obviously people can't eat while wearing masks! Maybe removing your mask in a restaurant will be allowed but there will be restrictions on number of tables that can be occupied and distances will have to be maintained between customers.

i think for years to come people wearing masks will be so common now even when we're back to normality. Believe it was similar in countries that were most effected by SARS breakout few years back.

I know I feel more comfortable with one now, when I pop out to shops etc

I'm not sure how education is supposed to work, Polish classrooms tend to be crowded and participating wearing a mask.... don't. think. so.

Another idea is that the numbers outside a few places (esp Italy and Spain in Europe) haven't been that drastic and so some measures are put in place to make it seem like they're needed but there won't be any muscle behind them...

Another victims of a coronavirus hysteria. How many people has died so far of heart attacks and circulatory diseases because health service is overwhelmed by dealing with chinese flu? Maybe Onet.pl should put a counter for them because it doesn't really count if you die for any other reason than "coronavirus"

I know a Polish guy who caught the ChinaVirus, he`s ok now, but said it was the worst fever he ever had and thought he was going to suffocate and die.

Poles around Chicago aren't obeying the social distancing rules, they scoff and think its no big deal. Typical polock mentality, he's hanging out at an equestrian club with 15 other Poles riding horses and having a good old time..Until these idiots wind up getting sick!

That's exactly what Londoners do. We didn't put our lives on stop because there's a mass media pandemia with mortality rate of 2%-4% among 70+

Same with the dumb college kids on spring break in Florida. They feel embolden because they are young and dont think about returning home and getting their grandparents sick and watching them die either.

That makes the death rates from the virus much much higher then they actually are/were.
Excellent lie/ploy by New York Governor Cuomo to receive and hoard precious medical equipment and supplies for his State of New York small hats.

Now, the project deaths have dropped 75% of what they were first projected.
Things like this are starting to make the honest citizens mistrust our government even more then we already do.
My personal guess is that more people then not have contracted this virus with most not even knowing they had it.
WHY are the one drop blood tests (to see if you have had it) NOT being given to EVERYONE with a job, that are now immune to the virus, and given an o.k. passport to go back to work ????? WHY ?

Actually it is the sought after ventilators that have caused so many of the corona virus deaths.
Some hospitals have reported unusually high death rates for coronavirus patients on ventilators.
Ventilators push oxygen into patients whose lungs are failing.
Using the machines involves sedating a patient and pushing a tube down your throat.
Deaths in such sick patients are common, no matter the reason they need the breathing help.
Generally speaking, 40% to 50% of patients with severe respiratory distress die while on ventilators.
But 80% or more of coronavirus patients placed on the machines in New York City have died when put on a ventilator.
Higher than normal death rates also have been reported elsewhere in the U.S.
Similar reports have emerged from China and the United Kingdom.
One U.K. report put the figure at 66%.
A study in Wuhan, the Chinese city where the disease first emerged, said 86% died.
I would prefer to take the drug Hydroxychloroquine that costs $1 dollar and take my chances.
If this virus is not intentional to collect world wide biometrical data on EVERYONE, for control, I will happily say I was wrong.

That said, you are right. Hydroxychloroquine is the best option we have. And btw its not 1$. Bayer said it will give it away for free.

As for side effects, we know Hydroxychloroquine since almost 70 years. Its hard stuff but still better than be on a breathing machine

Anybody else see the commemoration ion of Smolensk today ? Could easily have been postponed. No social distancing. Just shows the total contempt the PiS old guard have for the population. To be fair the younger guys have generally followed the rules in front of the camera

Economy is nothing to biology.

USA has lost 2000 people on COVID 19 in just one day and its in its initial stage. Doctors and nurses die and with a collapsed healthcare system you also have no economy.

Simple fact, if you dont stop the pandemic, there simply is no economy.

Maybe now USA will stop looking at healthcare as a business and more as a necessity. This has always been the problem. Starting with Universities who charge so much for physicians to get their education, to insurance companies, to pharma, and medical supply companies. This is one area where Europe has the USA beat. Europe see's healthcare as a critical need for society, USA treats it like a business.

While I dont like giving Germany much credit for things other than cars, they clearly know how to manage healthcare. So few dying with so many infected. Really a model for the rest of the world.

Not so much of a healhcare system efficiency as of methodology of counting. They're not counting old people who died because of age related organ failures and happened to have chinese flu antibodies as a victims of coronavirus like they did in Italy or Spain.

Exactly. Apart from the practicalities of the health services of various countries being overwhelmed, what kind of a society would be so lacking in human compassion and decency that they would say 'oh it's only killing old people, they don't matter'.

USA 3.7%
