....IMHO it looks more and more as if Sweden is NOT the "happy island" but will pay a hefty price for going their own way!

Beyond the anti vax or pro vax arguments, there is very interesting information. I am pro vax in most cases, though I have never had a flu shot simply because I was always suspicious of them and saw people get sick anyway. I certainly wouldn't line up to get a COVID vax right after it comes out either. I simply don't believe the math and science reports support the mass fear and control. Its deadly yes but to a much smaller segment of society then we were all originally lead to believe.

If you look at research (and not media hysteria) almost everything learned about it since late March has made it seem less scary. It's not super contagious and it's dangerous to only a small segment of society* - efforts need to be redirected toward protecting the vulnerable rather than shutting down everything.

*yes there are a few outlier cases of young healthy people badly affected but policy is/should not be built around outliers...

In the UK for example of the 30,000 deaths as of yesterday only 322 were under the age of 45.
The vast majority of victims have been over 70.

In general this would seem to be true and so people will need to distance themselves from this risk group and of course vice versa....

That is a total of 453 people which also says more than 100 people had at least two underlying conditions, or roughly one third of those patients. Essentially if you havent taken care of yourself your whole life, you are probably going to die from this. Then again, you are probably going to die anyway.

I'm not an Objectivist, don't like Ayn Rand, and don't find her arguments persuasive. She, like Karl Marx, points put problems but has an overly simplistic and optimistic prescription for the cure. Sometimes a good quote is just a quote.

That's why a coronavirus histeria and an upcoming economic crisis will swallow jobs/saving/pay raises of the masses who got lured by a fake image of dealthy pandemia spread and delived to them by [virtual] mass media...

I am not so sure whether a suitable vacinne has been developed yet so any talk of anti vaccine or pro vaccine arguments are in my opinion a little premature..I think it will take some time to develop and test a vaccine (unless of course you try injecting bleach as recommended by DT from the good old USA)....at the end of the day looking towards returning to normal duties whether it be work, holidays etc will all depend on how confident people are to return and what hygiene procedures are in place to encourage people to return to normality...this is the big test...I suspect businesses will need to make changes in order to entice people back......most people will probably want convincing that they are returning to some sort of virus free zone or that measures are in place to combat it...some people of course are prepared to take a risk in the belief that there is no threat from the virus and that they are seemingly imune to it......'do you feel lucky'....?

It is and like most countries, the UK did not how to deal with it and did not deal with it that well.
I think most countries just did what they thought was right with no knowledge to back it up.
It was a bit of a lottery.
It now seems that Germany got it right and the UK got it wrong.

It's kind of luck of the draw too. There's not much difference in the different states in the USA how they handled it yet places like New York, Michigan, Illinois, etc. were and remain hit really hard while other states like Wisconsin, Virginia, Tennessee, Minnesota, etc. have a fraction of the cases despite having fairly large cities as well.

Yeah, it is pretty complicated though.
USA will suffer in the large cities, but out in the sticks most people will be OK.
Here in the UK, not that many people live out in the sticks..... as we don't have as many sticks as you have... :-)

There are suggestions from within Germany and outside it that the German figures under-represent the number of infections and deaths by an order of magnitude. As one politician said this week, it's far too early to analyse figures. Nevertheless, their approach does seem to have worked.

Now shopping malls are open again here in PL, it will be interesting (or potentially nieciekawy) to see if cases increase. Quite a lot of people out on the streets here today, many of them taking part in the small business protest.

This is why it is is pretty pointless to compare nations like some sort of top 40.
But what we can say is that Germany did something right, intentionally or otherwise, and much of the rest of the western world got it wrong.

This pretty much counts for all countries, though it should be mentioned that Germany reports its' cases according to the same standards as other countries do. In fact, Germany did more often test patients who died for corona than some other countries who do not have the same testing capabilities.

The one country I am suspicious of is Russia. Supposedly they have roughly the same number of cases, yet their mortality rate is a fraction of Germany. And it is well known had badly most Russian hospitals are funded.
