Coronavirus in Poland

The 2 % margin shows the victory of full rights to LGBT is very near

@pawian, it sure is. Soon you will be able to tell your wife openly that you like wearing high heels and short skirts :-)

wearing high heels and short skirts

hahaha No short skirts for me, I have very thick legs, I would look stupid in them.

Numbers..

Fatalities (daily total) 4, average age 83

Hospitalizations (running total) up 15 to 1575

Ventilators in use (new number) up 5 to 72

Cured (daily total) 247, over 30 fewer than new cases (and second streak comes to an end)

Spike31

@pawian, seriously though. Those 48% weren't votes in favour of militant LGBT. They weren't even in favour of Trzaskowski. Those were anti-Duda votes.
Fortunately Polish society is tolerant but conservative at the same time. And Poles can tell the difference between tolerance and affirmation. Something which is too difficult for the Western World...

@Mafketis's daily coronavirus liturgy.

I almost forgot that the cult of coronavirus still exists...

Praised be virus, brother Mafketis.

I almost forgot that the cult of coronavirus still exists...

I'm still posting the daily (very non-alarming) numbers partly to prevent the panic mongers from being able to get a toe hold.

The disease was/is real but the danger has been vastly overinflated in order to allow the plutocrats to rob everyone (the US) or to reimpose even harsher austerity (what I'm assuming the EU 'recovery fund' will be once the slogans are stripped away...)

When I wrote it in the middle of "deadly pandemia" back in April I've been called an edge lord :-)

mafketis
20 Jul 2020  #2707

back in April that might have been deserved.... anyone who wasn't very concerned about this in March was kind of stupid, anyone who was very afraid in June is also kind of stupid.

there was no evidence in April that backed up a less concerned attitude, what numbers and/or scientists were you basing your april attitude on?

Spike31
20 Jul 2020  #2708

in March was kind of stupid, anyone who was very afraid in June is also kind of stupid.

Anyone panicking about this, whether it was then or now, was an easily manipulated type, or simply put a fool. And just because 95% was equally foolish and put an extra pressure on each other doesn't change that fact.

I know that right now many will try to rationalize it, and to ease a mentally painful cognitive dissonance. It's a natural reaction. You can post whatever you want on forums just be honest to yourself, cause it is a valuable lesson.

To me it was a bright example that humanity, as a whole, is stupid and shouldn't be trusted. It also gives me yet another argument against democracy.

I had no doubt this is a large scale manipulation since the beginning of this coronavirus spectacle. I was based on pattern of previous XXIst century "pandemics" but this time the media played it well and use its brainwashing powers with devastating effect.

Anyone panicking about thi

very concerned =/= panic

being unconcerned in march was foolhardy but as real science and hard numbers started coming in it became less and less of a concern

you had a lucky hunch, that doesn't make you smarter than anyone else.

mafketis - I'm still posting the daily (very non-alarming) numbers partly to prevent the panic mongers from being able to get a toe hold.

Keep up the good work with the Covid information it is very useful and informative, particularly when there is little else around (unless you have the time to search Google etc....)..pity there doesn't appear to be a website which not only provides detailed information for Polish speakers but also those who speak English.....bearing in mind this is a rather serious pandemic...it seems like a pretty poor response...maybe the government is getting a little too complacent....dangerous when you now see what is happening in Barcelona and Catalonia.....

Spike31 - I had no doubt this is a large scale manipulation since the beginning of this coronavirus spectacle.

It looks like you believe the virus is some sort of conspiracy.....not too sure where you get your facts from, but I think you need to speak to the thousands of people who contracted the virus and whilst lucky to have survived will most likely require lifetime medication for the damage the virus has caused to the heart, liver and respiratory system...don't worry about the media, they will always be looking for a story...just think how lucky you are not to have so far caught the virus.....how lucky do you feel.....

Spike31
20 Jul 2020  #2711

you had a lucky hunch

Call it a luck. I don't mind that at all as long as it would teach a few people what was it all about.

All I care about is the effect.

that doesn't make you smarter

No that alone doesn't :-). Especially since I personally know a few very bright people in my life.

when you now see what is happening in Barcelona and Catalonia.....

What is happening with hospitalizations and fatalities? Numbers of new cases by themselves are meaningless especially since there's evidence that it's losing strength...

mafketis

Numbers..

Fatalities (daily total) 9, age range 49-89, average age 78

Hospitalizations (running total) up 32 to 1607

Ventilators in use (new number) up 1 to 73

Cured (daily total) 232, about 160 fewer than new cases (and second streak comes to an end)

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) just 25 times more cured than new cases....

What are the current quarantine rules when arriving in Poland from UK. Is it 7 or 14 days?

dolnoslask
22 Jul 2020  #2715

There are no restrictions on UK travel at this time. BUT it may change so check the website below.

you have a lot to learn about Poland

Indeed... ime Polish attitudes towards rules make up by far the biggest hurdle for English speakers trying to adapt to life here. If they can come to peace with that (not agree with it necessarily but understand it and learn to not let it drive them crazy) then everything else is doable.

mafketis
22 Jul 2020  #2717

Heres a novel idea, learn how to speak the language before you move there?

note to mods: this does get to the topic of the thread: do not move!

My point was that the "rule orientation" (as it's called in the literature) is just as big a hurdle as the language (and we know how formidable that is....).

Basically most English speaking countries have a set of attitudes about rules in common

-there shouldn't be more rules than necessary
-rules should make sense and be fair
-everybody should follow the rules

None of that applies in Poland, where the attitudes toward rules are (roughly)

-yes, rules! the more the better!
-it would be nice if they made sense and were fair, but what are you gonna do?
-other people should definitely follow the rules, but my case is special

That's why things like lockdowns and quarantines are only of limited effectiveness in Poland where very many people will think a quick run to the closest store isn't really breaking the quarantine... not really, it was just for two minutes! or why someone who just came back to Poland after three years won't view family visiting as breaking quarantine - they're family!

That's one reason the government has announced it won't be repeating the lockdown for a hypothetical second wave.... that was a one time move and the population won't follow it a second time.

The fact that people aren't keeling over on the streets in Poland is probably proof that coronavirus isn't nearly as deadly as people thought in the beginning.

a hypothetical second wave.

There will be another wave in the autumn/winter.

coronavirus isn't nearly as deadly as people thought in the beginning.

Maybe not, but it's a potentially very serious illness that can leave you with long term health problems.

it's a potentially very serious illness

Seems to be much more dangerous for those who are older than 60 and obese (or even just more than a little overweight).

Numbers..

Fatalities (daily total) 6, age range 69-88, average age 78

Hospitalizations (running total) up 34 to 1644

Ventilators in use (new number) 73 (like yesterday)

Cured (daily total) 386 just six more than new cases

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 64 times more cured than new cases....

Fatalities (daily total) 9, age range 35-80, average age 70

Hospitalizations (running total) down18 to 1626

Ventilators in use (new number) down 2 to 71

Cured (daily total) 402, 16 less than new cases...

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 44 times more cured than new cases....

Numbers

Got any pre- and post-mask order data?

mafketis
23 Jul 2020  #2723

No.... it would involve a lot of digging through stuff I don't want to...

The information I really want are the comorbidities of fatal cases... the 35 year old today did they have diabetes? respiratory problems? but... nothing.

the only time that was mentioned in the media was the very first fatal case where it was reported that the patient was on immunosuppressant medication, a friend in healthcare said that sounded like the patient had had a transplant...

Had a classic at the Market this morning where a lady and her son were refusing to wear a mask.
I ask her why and of course I got the pat answer of they had medical conditions that didn't allow them to wear one.

The lady behind me standing in line told her that there are no medical conditions that wouldn't allow someone to wear a mask.
So I told her that her son should have waited in the car or better yet that she should have used curb side pick up.

She told me to mind my own business and I told her it was my business when such people as her and her son were the kind of people spreading the virus.

The lady behind me in line pops out with the classic....."Another maskhole !"

dolnoslask
24 Jul 2020  #2725

mind my own business

Yeah this is what is happening in the UK, Police and supermarkets are refusing to enforce the ban , and look over 40000 dead in the
UK.

Compare this to Poland where 99% of the population have complied with instructions from the sanitary department with only 1700 dead here .

johnny reb
24 Jul 2020  #2726

Same here dolno, the police refuse to handout the mandatory $500 fines and it shows.
And social distancing is even a bigger joke as people constantly walk right up next to you in the grocery stores.
And when I tell them to back off they get offended being clueless of what safe space is.
In Detroit Michigan alone the death toll is pushing 3000.
In the U.S.A. the death toll is pushing 150,000.
And in Poland where people are respectful, accountable and responsible the death toll is 1700.
I am totally ashamed to be an American sometimes and this is one of them.

That's a generous estimation.... esp since so many people wear them incorrectly leaving nose or mouth uncovered...

Lenka
24 Jul 2020  #2728

That's a generous estimation

And that masks weren't mandatory for all this time.

Police and supermarkets are refusing to enforce the ban

Mask are mandatory in shops in UK from today so...

johnny reb
24 Jul 2020  #2729

Is it LAW now or just an order like it is here ?
They made an executive order to make them mandatory here and it changed nothing.
The shop owners even refuse to enforce it.
The police claim since it is not a law that they don't have time to enforce it.
Keep us posted if the same thing happens in the U.K.

dolnoslask
24 Jul 2020  #2730

Mask are mandatory in shops in UK from today so..

As I said in the UK the Police and supermarkets are not going to enforce the ban , shop workers would probably get stabbed telling some people that they wont be served without a mask. that's the way it is in the UK sadly. Brits are too smart for their own good and non compliant with authority, street raves requiring riot police to break up, overcrowded beaches etc etc etc.....non of that crap here in Poland and look only 1700 dead here compared to armageddon in the UK 40,000 plus dead.

Anyway its toooo late for masks now they should have done it months ago like the rest of us.

JR
In Poland it was the law but in mot cases relaxed now.
