Why should people who choose to send their children to a private school also be forced to pay taxes to support a public school ?

There is a growing, ugly and violent war being waged against the Trump administration and conservatives in general. Oh yes, it is. The so-called "choice of school" that DeVos claims is desperately needed is nothing new. There has always been the option to send your kids to a private school - provided that you can afford it and that the school accepted your children. Even with a coupon, the working and lower middle class will never ever be able to afford tuition because they cannot come up with the 10K+ on top of the coupon that is necessary. Children with learning disabilities will be rejected by those private schools and sent to the - now severely defunded - public school system. What about their chances in life? Oh, that's right - Republicans are only concerned as long as they are still in the womb.

What this all boils down to is that low income and disabled kids will end up in an even crappier school system, while the rich kids enjoy their private schools and their rich parents enjoy a significant tax cut. That's what it is, and not something revolutionary positive to look forward to as the GOP wants us to believe. Just look at Michigan, where DeVos was in charge, and it's messed up school system. Below average, shady charter and private schools that are only there to fill the pockets of their owners with tax money. Who cares about the quality of education as long as we can make a quick buck, right?

As a side note: our current school system is really a mess - also because of the all powerful teacher's union. That doesn't mean though that you have to abandon the whole system. Just reform it, for heavens sake, and don't fu*cking play with the future of our children (and thus our country).

Schools are usually funded through property taxes, and housing prices are directly influenced by the quality of the school district. Take all this away and many home owners will see the value of their houses come crashing down. Another important factor that shows that it's indeed all about money.


If you want that, send your kids to a private Christian school FFS. That's what they are there for. I for one do not want to finance some wacko who thinks that his kids need an education guided by the principles of Scientology or any other cult/religion. Not with my tax money.
