Poland under pressure of EU to accept more asylum seeking refugees

Lyzko

I frankly think the new threat from outside Europe at the moment is Tayyip Recep Erdogan. He's slowly turning Turkey from a Western-style bridge between East and West, Islam and Christian, to some type of restored Caliphate with him as Potentate Caliph in Chief!

I predict in a decade or so, the more things are rolled back to even before Cillar, we'll start to see public beheadings, enforced marriages and the demise of women's rights for the forseeable future.

Scary stuff, friends!!

That must have been a cheerless visit to the movies for your kids if on leaving you told them to forget about the bits where girls were encouraged to read, told them that the villagers should be condemned for fraternizing with negroes and that Le Fou should be locked up like in the good old days when Brezhnev was in charge. I presume that afterwards you didn't let them get Macs of KFC but rather insisted on some pelmeni with the grey buckwheat sludge next to it.

Hollywood is not a single entity and does not have a propaganda budget. I know that some of the studio founders were refugees from Tsarist Poland - Harry Warner was from Mlawa, Sam Goldwyn from Warsaw - but they did not spend all their lives cooking up revenge on the backward society that they left, rather they decided to contribute a huge slice to the culture of their new home, and make a ton of money in the process.

Disney as I said before is a private company and in fact if you wish you could buy some shares in it tomorrow - the ticker symbol is DIS and if you had done that 5 years ago then you would have doubled your money - probably a better deal than working on Easter weekend in the troll factory. Once you have your shares then you can go to their shareholders meeting, stand up and tell them they are all filthy Islamists and feminists.

Poles like Disney because Poland Has European values and it fits in with the culture here - freedom, friendship, fun that includes everyone including women and gays and foreigners.

Lest you think I've been swayed by Hollywood images of "Midnight Express" etc., I only know what I read in the papyrus!

He's slowly turning Turkey

He's not especially slow...

Lyzko
17 Apr 2017  #2795

Fast, slow, he's been turning his country into a virtually unrecognizable place. The pace remains unimportant; the continuous onward march back to pre-Ataturk days is what's so frightening!!

So you're saying Erdogan's a direct result of "liberal softies" in the West sleepin' at the switch? There may be something in what you say, Maf. After all, Trump, Hitler himself, along with a host of other demagogue types arose because those in power weren't paying attention to the deep-seated discontent rumbling not far below the surface and let it finally get way the heck out of hand, at which point, the damage had been done and the onslaught of evil was nearly unstoppable, right?

Nice one!

not a direct causal relation but the two phenomena are related.

You're certainly on the right track. Maf!

Good connection. I'm still trying to get better at connecting the dots:-)

@Lyzko
That is my worry.

It's too easy to dismiss the Brexit result as the fault of idiots, older people and right wing supporters. There is a deep malaise in many people throughout Europe and the politicians are either not recognising that or simply ignoring it.

If our leader could at least give a passing nod to some of our concerns then balance could be restored within a short space of time but if they continue to deny there is a problem then it creates the perfect environment for a charismatic right wing idiot to take centre stage.........again.

Scary stuff indeed.

Apparently then, PM May, Mme. Le Pen, and Prime Minsiter Szydlo are among the few far-sighted ones who see the danger, eh?
Therefore, by your and Maf's definition, Chancellor Merkel fell asleep at the switch a bloody long time ago...and what's more, ain't woken upLOL

:-)

Why?

Please explain why a country that has no interaction or contact with Poland is important yet a a nuclear armed enemy practicing invasion on our doorstep is not?

@CMS

Poland likes Gay people and all foreigners? You must be joking.

The only way to have people respect you here at all is learn some Polish and not stand out as one of the above. That is fine because that's the way it is but let's not pretend everyone is some Liberal fanatic here. Far from it.

My only problem with Liberalism are the right-on right-wing liberal types who support people's liberal rights but not their human and economic rights. We get a lot of the feigned outrage on selective issues in other places too, only social discrimination is all too evident of certain Liberals.

You would be surprised how right wing Liberal activists in certain countries can be on every other issue that does not affect them.

Both are significant in different ways:-) North Korea threatens chiefly American might and sense of sovereignty, whereas Turkey (and through her, ISIS) threatens the entire world!

Word Limit

- "but they did not spend all their lives cooking up revenge on the backward society that they left"
Bieganski disagrees in his book "The Brute Polak Stereotype in Polish-Jewish Relations and American Popular Culture". It has been discussed before on this forum.

- "Hollywood is not a single entity and does not have a propaganda budget"
You have to receive backing from the movie studios in order to have your script produced otherwise you have to go the independent film route. Have you watched the Oscars over the past 5 years? It is clearly a single entity that supports and shuns specific perspectives.

- "Poles like Disney because"
Until recently Disney did not get political. Poles are still in the dark on what is increasingly occurring

Hollywood in general has stopped releasing new material. They just remake old classics with a progressive spin on it. Which is why Hollywood has been complete crap for over a decade. I've personally attended a handful of films over the past 5 years [James Bond a few times]. As I was explaining the film to a friend yesterday - a series glorifying some Black Power stuff in 1970's UK was airing a commercial on Showtime. When the ad ended a film about slavery began.

I have no problem with releasing NEW material with progressive spin. But you know what happens - these films usually bomb. That is why they jam pack it into films/cartoons that are classics. Hollywood is right there alongside academia as a major problem in Western Civilization. These are no different than religious centres that preach a certain ideology.

Hollywood signifies popular entertainment for the masses, Bieganski! While we've al been influenced by the movies, the medium of film has notably served in the propaganda efforts of such historic powers as Nazi Germany (Leni Riefenstahl) and Communist Russia (Sergei Eisenstein):-)

I frankly think the new threat from outside Europe at the moment is Tayyip Recep Erdogan.

If Turks weren't included in European society at such a high number - why would this be a concern of ours? African drug lords are no concern to Europe because (most of) Europe isn't flooded with Africans.

If you ban travel to and from questionable nations - then of what concern is it of ours?

Western nations are stuck in a never ending cycle of:
1) import these people
2) don't like what these people are doing overseas on their vacations or how their families back home are treated
3) feel the need to intervene in these nations
4) create more instability
5) import more of these people
6) rinse and repeat

So ultimately it is multiculturalism/globalization that is fueling these problems. Why is Japan not concerned with what is occurring in Turkey or Syria?

17 Apr 2017  #2808

Agreed, of course!

Slovenly, butt-kissing bend-over-backwards liberalism has all but quashed true "free expression" in Europe and the allowance of nearly over a million refugees into Germany, for example, later Denmark, Sweden, Britain, and France, has created a vertiable Frankenstein's Monster for which there seems no known antidote.

While in all good conscience, these poor wretches as well as integrated misfits can't be "sent back" as it were, the future of Europe must attend first and foremost to looking after her own, not that of the rest of humanity:-)

Famous last words LOL

Is there any hope in sight for Western Europe? Based on the phenomenon of the disenfranchised 2nd generation immigrant - the worst is yet to come.

It seems the best hope is for the West to invest even more resources into improving these regions and then hoping these people decide to return.

Granted voter turn out varies - how do we explain Western European Turks voting conservative in Turkish elections at such a larger number ; than Turks living in less free and open-minded nations in ME & Asia?

These Turks in Western Europe vote conservative in Turkey but back leftist parties in Europe. Is there a lesson there?

and the allowance of nearly over a million refugees into Germany, for example

most of the merkeljugend are not refugees in any traditional sense, they are overwhelmingly benefits migrants (hard to even call them economic migrants when so many are so work shy).

No ****. There are thousands of Africans washing ashore on Europe everyday. Demographic changes will be irreversible

I voted for Obama in 2008. In the span of 6 years my perspective has taken a 180 and I blame impotent leftist "leadership". You give these people equality and they demand superiority. I've had enough. I'm ready to not only fight further change but even reverse it.

Fish them out of the water. Give them medical care. Take them back where they came from.

Brexit result as the fault of idiots

Brexit was solely the fault of arrogant Brusselcrats of the Schultz, Timmermans and Junckers ilk trying to force all EU countries into a leftist-liberal, multi-culti, utopianist mould.

liberal like FDR

He disgraced every brave GI who fought for the freedom of Europe, without the Soviet Union on the map China would not have been emboldened to take on the US in Korea and Vietnam, many GI lives would have been saved as a result.

The problem we have today is that we have many individual conflicts across the globe which appear to be almost impossible to solve politicaly, thousands are fleeing to what they beleive to be a better life in Europe, many more economic migrants are taking advantage of the current turmoil to sneak their way into Europe.

The EU does not appear to have any cohesive plan to deal with this complicated set of challenges, whats worse the UN's inability to form a consensus as to how to deal with this on a global level, the UN seems to be happy to let the EU absorb the mess that it cannot deal with.

The EU's solution is to try and dilute the problem by spreading migrants amongst member states on a numbers basis when it would be better to place these people within already established communites of their own kind that already exist in many European cities.

It seems crazy to send people to Poland where there is no establised community or structure to take care of them and make them feel at home.

Exactly. Ultimately the concept of Poland housing economic migrants [non-War refugees] while our own leave the country in the Millions for work overseas is ridiculous. If the EU established secure external borders and took a stand against smugglers then I would have no issue with Poland accepting refugees seeking safe harbor. But the people continue to come and the EU is more [or only] focused on where to put them instead of finding a conclusion. Theoretically this flood of migrants could be endless. If you told me 3 years ago this would be occurring I wouldn't believe you.

flood of migrants

Fortunately the pro-Polish government is admament as regards not repeating the West's self-imposed migrant crisis. Much has to do with the PC obsession which is having tragic consequences. There have been reports of Germans and Swedes watching Polish TV to see what's happening in their own countries on the migrant/refugee front. They may not understand the narration but can see pictures banned in their own countries. There are many more terrorist acts than are being reported in those countries and that is a disservice to the local populace. Let's hope Poland never falls for that trendy but toxic hoax known as PC. Thank God for the PiS govenrment and minsiters like Błaszczak who said recently: "Our predecessors, agreeing to receive thousands of refugees - and de facto immigrants from the Middle East, and northern Africa - were striving to bring about such a crisis...As long as PiS are in power, they will not allow a repeat of what we are dealing with in Western Europe."

Omg! Seriously? Are these reported ppl over 100 so they don't know what internet is? And why Polish of all? Why not Hungarian, Czech or others?
