Serbia prepares to mediate in Ukrainian-Russian conflict.
Don't hold your breath on it... As much as the two countries likes each other.
This is extraordinary incident (with the downed airliner) and Russia will protect it's own image at all costs, for it's own interests and those of the rebels.
BTW from the link you have provided, I have read other articles, and I see that Serbians are flipping. Where is the Chetnik spirit?
But this is not for this thread (drop me a PM or I will)
everyone knows about it, funny how at the same time you avoided the mention of downing of a korean airliner by Soviet Union back in the 80's, so desperate to shift the focus... pathetic borderline distasteful.
I share your concerns but that Korean airliner was well off course and bad weather. I vividly remember that I wasn't happy about the incident myself back then
some interesting read
"The men of the Vincennes were all awarded Combat Action Ribbons for completion of their tours in a combat zone"
There were no rebels in that scenario but two military powers on high alert situation. Yes the USS Vincennes screwed up.
Having said that..
@gregy741 Have you ever served in any armed forces? Are you familiar with defense doctrine of the US fleets (usually with the carrier as the heart)
The principle is that the the Aircraft Carrier is priceless and must be protected at all costs. There are few lines of defense, first cruisers. frigates destroyers, submarines and warplanes to the the aircraft it'self. with high rate/cyclic guns with radar at list 50 calibers
the Cruisers (most of them with AEGIS system) however are the first to respond, there is very little time to make a decision and respond. Yes they screwed up. but **** happens in wars.
Better save then sorry
