A good lie has to have the probability of being true greater than zero. His story was: two guys wearing MAGA hats threw bleach at him and put a rope around his neck. Then, they beat him while screaming racist and anti-gay words. So far so good. The problem was that it happened at 2 a.m.

Now, how many of you ever had a bottle of bleach and a rope with you just in case you want to show to a random stranger your true racist and homophobic colors at 2 a.m. in the dead of night? I do it every day, but that's another and a very sad story.

This one is a classic. Post 818 was my reaction to that moving rendition of the US national anthem at the Superbowl. With the flyover, you would have to be made out of solid oak not get a lump in your throat no matter how you feel about things. After nearly 52 years here, that moment and how I felt was a confirmation that it was my anthem and that it is my home where I will die. To show what a classy guy I am, I made my post all inclusive, and not specific to the US.

The German national anthem lyrics are some little feel good poem while the Star Spangled banner is an actual story of winning Independence, something to be very proud of.

Our forefathers added stars to that flag with their ultimate sacrifice son.
Their is a true story behind OUR National Anthem.
That makes Ours the superior anthem by far.

...and, then, there is the American flag. The most beautiful flag ever designed with no other flag even remotely close to it. Maybe French. That is why I was so disappointed when I walked up to the US Embassy in Warsaw in 2017 and noticed that it was not flying on top of the building.

Certainly far superior to that tepid dirge that is the US anthem! It's as bad as the Australian one, which is also unbelievably awful.

The tradition and history behind the German anthem, as well as the fact that Germans have started to finally sing it again, is something to behold.

Anthems are not designed to be great compositions to compete at the Anthem Olympics. They are meant to inspire and unify. Comparing national anthems is below stupid. Do we compare our parents? What would be the purpose? To switch?

The US anthem is extreme, so only the best can sing it. This may, actually, be a good thing. I hope never to hear it as botched up as Happy Birthday is 99 out of 100 times. 99% of people should never even think about singing.

Nothing is more annoying than a bagpipe anthem O` flower of Scotland, It sounds like fingernails being scratched across a chalkboard! lol

Coming from a mainly musical perspective,I would say that most South American National anthems are absolutely awful.
The American,German,Russian and Polish anthems are all superb.
The British anthem just eclipses all of them but is not the best.
That has to go to "La Marseiiaise".....

The Czech one is surprisingly awful.

I've always liked the Finnish/Estonian ones, and the old Yugoslav anthem Hej Sloveni is such a beautiful anthem in terms of the story that it tells.
