Then look up "immigration" vs. "invasion"
I gotta admit, what the guys in Florida and Texas did with sending busloads of South Americans to NYC - has had some effect.
Next door to me, a hotel that was closed down during the pandemic, was reopened to house some 1,500 refugees. Overnight, life on my block has changed.
There's a bunch of Latina moms in the subway, selling sliced mangoes and churros.
Then there's a whole bunch of teenage kids that just aimlessly cruise around. They sit in my courtyard, just chilling. Sometimes they rent the city bikes, and ride around in groups of 5-10 people.
So far, they're not really poisoning my life in any way - and as a person on a visa myself, I feel like it's not my place to really complain.
However, it is absolutely concerning how they are blowing up our city budget. Apparently it costs a $150 per person, per night, to house them. We've run out of places to put them in the city, and are now paying places in Westchester county to take them in on our dime.
Gotta hand it to De Santis and Abbot, these bus rides are doing the job of moving the needle in the North on the subject of immigration.
I'm starting to be a bit more sympathetic to the Southerners that have been moaning about immigration for ages.
