It's strange that he thinks that several voyages on board a ship, each taking six or seven weeks is the same as working on an oil rig every six weeks.

Oil rigs don't do six week rotations anyway. In the North Sea they're 14/14 and off Africa they're 28/28. In the Caribbean, I'm not sure since I've only sailed between platforms after a crew change at Campeche. Usually in the Gulf of Mexico we did the crew change on Grand Bahama, to/from Freeport Airport and the dock.

I've never been a Captain or worked on a structure functioning at the time as an oil rig. Although I've worked on a semi-submersible ship which is both a rig and a Jones Act vessel. And posted here from it. Back when we had pictures on the forum on the profile pages, mine was taken on the deck.
