Yes, you talk and three people are listening

OK, Ms. Perfect...

Did you ever try having a conversation with three people at the same time in a bar or at a party?

johnny reb

No, I'm wondering about the quote limit,

Maybe you should just read and not post until you catch on.

Don't waste my time on this retardation. An internet forum isn't a bar or a party. People don't talk here. People write here. And so you CAN have a discussion with multiple people ON AN INTERNET FORUM. You can quote multiple people. You can read multiple posts with multiple quotes written by multiple people. Unless you're too stupid for that, I guess. Are you too stupid for that? lol

I'm wondering about the quote limit,

I thought that this all started off from cutting off your quoted messages; now you refer to how many quotes in a post may be too much. Either way, there may be more interesting topics to discuss.

Novichok
28 Aug 2024  #365

And so you CAN have a discussion with multiple people

It's disrespectful.

Paulina
28 Aug 2024  #366

cutting off your quoted messages

I'm not sure what you mean by this.

now you refer to how many quotes in a post may be too much.

Yes, because apparently two quotes in my post were too much for Admin.

It's disrespectful.

No, it isn't, weirdo o_O

Paulina
28 Aug 2024  #367

Either way, there may be more interesting topics to discuss.

Then what are you doing here discussing it? :)

jon357
28 Aug 2024  #368

And when I see a big block of text without any quotes I don't feel like reading it

The same.

You can read multiple posts with multiple quotes written by multiple people

This is important since you may want to respond to multiple points by different people, each quite specific and do so without writing an essay like Dirk and a few others used to. And of course you can't make a separate post if you're the last poster. Not a huge problem of it's a busy time but not possible to do if the forum is quiet.

Novichok
28 Aug 2024  #369

No, it isn't, weirdo o_O

Yes, it is, moron...When I am conversing with A I want A's undivided attention. We don't multitask while socializing. Addressing a group is different, idiot...

Even as I am typing this post in response to you, I am not responding to other posters.

Paulina
28 Aug 2024  #370

And of course you can't make a separate post if you're the last poster.

I think you can, you just have to wait 5 minutes? But that's a waste of time - if I want to quote three different people or comment on three different things and only one quote per post is allowed then I have to post one post with one quote, wait 5 minutes, post a second post with the second quote, wait another 5 minutes and only then post the third one. That's 10 minutes of my life wasted. If you're taking part in a longer discussion or with multiple people it becomes frustrating and time-consuming. Especially considering that in the end it doesn't make any difference, because those quotes are posted one after another just as if they were in one post and not in three... So I don't understand this - what difference does it make? it boggles my mind...

Yes, it is, moron...

No, it isn't, moron.

When I am conversing with A I want A's undivided attention.

That's your problem. I don't have such a problem when discussing by writing comments on a freaking internet forum.

Even as I am typing this post in response to you, I am not responding to other posters.

That's because you're a weirdo. You could be responding to 10 other posters beside me and I wouldn't care o_O

Ironside
28 Aug 2024  #371

Yes, but only to idiots like you that don't

that is what toxic b'tches say. When they whine and nag.

Novichok

You could be responding to 10 other posters beside me and I wouldn't care o_O

Show me how you responded to 10 other posters at the same time.

Paulina
28 Aug 2024  #373

@Novichok, whatever for? o_O I wrote that I wouldn't care if you responded to 10 other people beside me and not that I did it myself. Are you bored?

Novichok
28 Aug 2024  #374

You could be responding to 10

No, I couldn't.

Nobody can because 10 people never ask the same question or say the same thing at the same time. Duh!

Dear PF Supporters,

It took us a few days, but we've just completed the Similar Topics in Archives / Live feature that allows to conveniently view related topics from the archived / live forums. Enjoy!

PF team

Just noticed this on the fundraiser page. Didn't actually notice it before!

This is very cool - thanks!

Now resurrecting old threads will be even easier :)

Same. I hadn't noticed a fundraiser page until you just mentioning it. Perhaps I'll send a few quid.

The similar topics thing is a good idea too.

Regarding the quoting rules:

1. As some members have noted, it is best to only quote the essential part of a post (ie. a relevant fragment of a sentence if you refer to it), not the whole or a big part of a post.

For example, looking at the post right above. If I want to refer to the issue of "similar topics," I'd quote:

similar topics thing is a good idea

, but not:

I hadn't noticed a fundraiser page until you just mentioning it. Perhaps I'll send a few quid.

The similar topics thing is a good idea too.

etc. The goal of some of the recent edits was to correct just that.

2. It's ok to quote multiple times in one message if you refer to a long post. However, making a message condense is frequently a better idea because it's usually easier to read a more general thought than to confront another poster with a very constrained message, which can only create unnecessary tensions, personal attacks, or confusion. We are not in a court room.

3. If you refer to a message that is posted directly above, it's often not needed to quote it at all (or one can just use an @USERNAME tag) because it's a natural flow to read from the top to the bottom and if there's no quote, it's logical to assume one refers to the newest/previous message.

It only takes two clicks to paste the @USERNAME tag into the posting form: 1 - click on the message and the @USERNAME button appears; 2 - click on the @USERNAME button and it will get automatically pasted into the form.

I feel a sense of déjà vu. This time yesterday I was here and the subject was quoting.......and 24 hrs later it's still going on!

Either way, there may be more interesting topics to discuss.

There may well be but if quotes are going to be removed or even inserted into a post then it's understandable that maybe members won't bother posting anything more interesting at all.

I'm certainly getting to that point because over the years the one constant seems to be that we must all obey the quoting rules. The only rule that is enforced. Let's just ignore the real-life stalking by nut job members, the misogyny, anti-Semitism, racism and LGBT hatred, but God forbid anyone puts more than one quote in a post!

@Paulina

I'm with you on this because I've experienced the exact same thing. Don't let the nutcases/misogynists grind you down!

Oh the insanity of PF.......

if there's no quote, it's logical to assume one refers to the newest/previous message.

That will only work if no-one else puts a quote in whilst one is being written. Then it doesn't make sense.

Btw, do you think two quotes in a post is "too much"?

I regularly make posts of three quotes or more but I think Admin explains it perfectly why I, usually, but not always get away with it and you don't.But I still think that you are right.Multiple posts should be allowed on PF.Some of us have a point to make.

I don't care to listen to your Rinse & Repeats for the next three days.

This time yesterday I was here and the subject was quoting.......and 24 hrs later it's still going on!

And as long as she has someone to argue with it will go on for another 24 hours.
She's a psycho.

Did you send money?

I am thinking...At 82, it's a gamble...

What if I send money and die before Dec 31, 2024? Will my wife get a refund?

Bobko
29 Aug 2024  #383

Will my wife get a refund?

You will go straight to Heaven, instead of first purgatory.

Also, I have this nagging feeling that you will outlive me, and I'm 35.

Admittedly most younger posters left. But it's not like I'm far behind you

I got that feeling! What about Paulina? Is she older than you?

johnny reb

Stick with Lenka as she is much better looking.

jon357
29 Aug 2024  #389

older

We used to have a poster who was posting until he was about 87 or 88. He lived a little longer but was in a bad way for the last year of his life. Born 1925.

What about Paulina?

Have no idea. If I was to guess I would say slightly younger than me. She seems more confident than girls from my generation (although we are getting there with age and experience) and still has that type of energy that I think you loose with time.
