Guys, you are looking at exports alone and not taking into account imports.

Net The UK is Germanys top trading partner.

Farage on good morning Britain

But if UK exports to Germany are that big doesn't that mean its a very stupid idea to can a long standing free trade agreement with Germany ?

Dirk - to be PM he needs to be an MP. Something that will never happen because so far nobody has voted him into parliament. Who would want this clown as their local MP ?

Oh I don't know... perhaps the millions of people who voted for brexit, a larger group than voted remain?

Most of whom then voted either Labour or Tory one year later. He tried to get elected 7 times as an MP without coming close.

@Miloslaw

Germany might be the largest trading partner of the UK. But the Uk is not Germany's largest trading partner.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_trading_partners_of_United_Kingdom

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_trading_partners_of_Germany

Which means Germany is not as dependent on the Uk as you think. Especially if you look at how much Germany trades with the rest of the EU. Preserving the EU is more important for Berlin than any trade deal with London.

Oh I don't know... perhaps the millions of people who voted for brexit, a larger group than voted remain?

They should vote for Ukip then. But even after the referendum, Ukip failed to get a meaningful number of seats in the last election,

Cms neuf......are you really not understanding what you are reading?I thought English was your first language.
Please read again.....UK exports to Germany are very small......but our imports from Gemany are huge.
Who needs who most?

Tacitus......you are really not getting it......so let me spell it out for you....German exports to The UK are considerable.
UK imports to Germany are comparitively small...we export more to the growing market outside of The EU than to the stagnating market within it....

Bottom line is,you need us more than we need you.....you just haven't realised it yet......

Who needs who most?

The Brits! :)

The exports aren't that high because Germany is pushing it down the throats of hapless Brits against their will. Our economies don't work that way. The import is much higher because Brits love them german stuff. And it's often one of the more expensive stuff compared to the cheap chinese crap. Remember that, they are willing to pay the higher price for stuff just because it's German!

I wonder how it will go down with the Brits if they can't buy their beloved german stuff anymore because of the Brexit (beside them xenophobes who avoid buying from the "enemy" generally which are always just a tiny minority).

No longer a land of free and coveted and spoiled customers who have the free choice like any other wealthy Westerner...nooo...a land of miffed buyers who have to resort back to home made stuff. They won't be happy about that, I tell you. And they won't blame Germany for that....

Bottom line is,you need us more than we need you.....you just haven't realised it yet......

Just look for once at a map of the EU market...

You are pathetic Sausage Man.......Germany is far too reliant on car and car spares exports.....as soon as someone else makes cars better and cheaper, you have had it.....and they are doing cheaper already....as for German cars,VAG are **** and have had their own scandals to deal with....MB have gone really downhill, their standards have hit a low.....yeah,BMW make good cars, but I don't like them...owned a couple of Mercs in my time and they were unreliable crap.

We only love German crap in your dreams.....we only buy because it's OK and cheap.....stick tarrifs on and we will buy elsewhere...no problem.

Germany is far too reliant on car and car spares exports

You don't get such record surpluses year after year after year only with cars and spare exports! :)

Till 2016 Germany even overtook China and was world record holder for exports...tiny Germany against huge China ffs...you don't achieve that with only cars and spare parts!

global.handelsblatt.com/companies/germany-is-capital-export-world-champion-overtakes-china-693481

...Germany exported goods to the value of 1,195.8 billion euros

Miloslaw
21 Aug 2018  #191

True. But it is your main export......I bet you don't even know what The UK's main export is without Googling it first.....

And here we go again with that show off German arrogance.......yes we know you are an economic powerhouse, but you have a 33 % greater population than us!

Do we care......naaah....

Aircraft, spacecraft: $41.8 billion (2.9%)
Articles of iron or steel: $30.5 billion (2.1%)
Mineral fuels including oil: $26.8 billion (1.9%)
Iron, steel: $26.4 billion (1.8%)

I bet you don't even know what The UK's main export is without Googling it first.....

I wish you would try google more often before you write about something as you so clearly prefer anti-german stereotypes to real facts...

Miloslaw

And?
Are we supposed to be impressed or something......?

This has nothing to do with anti German stereotypes.....just German stupidity.

When have Brits ever bowed to Germans?
People only bow to royalty......you don't have any...... :-)

Bratwurst Boy

We don't need to...the british royals are german! :)

English is a dialect of german...hell...the Angeln and the Sachsen were german tribes!

Admit it Milo...you are a wannabe- German! :)

...only your football still sucks...but you are getting there (or we are, depending on the view point)...

Miloslaw

The stupidity that makes you think that you are so superior to everyone else that you can walk all over them....
We have been here before.....Unfortunately, some Germans seem to have forgotten and not learnt from history......sad....as the outcome will be the same as it allways has been....

The stupidity that makes you think that you are so superior to everyone else that you can walk all over them....

Heey..it's not our fault that we are that good! :)

Unfortunately, some Germans seem to have forgotten and not learnt from history.

Oh, don't say that. We have learnt! We have learnt that Germany alone, against the whole of Europe, militarily, can be to easily isolated and knocked out. That's why a "Gerexit" will never be an alternative for us...never again!

But...inside of a union...we rule! Without having to fire a shot or to invade anybody...that's so much smarter, don't you think? ;)

Or as the Brits like to say..."They lost the war but won the peace!" :)

Interesting insight: theguardian.com/politics/2017/mar/24/germany-will-win-the-peace-in-europe-because-of-brexit-says-lord-heseltine

...The Tory peer said it was "quite unacceptable" that Germany would be in a dominant position in Europe having lost the second world war....

You waved the white flag, gave up and walked away...YOU LOST!

...he said: "We've now abandoned the opportunity to influence Europe, the council of ministers will meet and we won't be there. Our ability to speak for the Commonwealth within Europe has come to an end. ....

The Anglo Saxons were Germanic tribes, but they are not the full make up of what we British are.....
We are Ancient Britons too (Celts) and Danes and Vikings and Normans and Romans......and so much more in recent years....enriched by The Comonwealth by West Indians,Africans,Indians,Hong Kong Chinese,Australians,New Zeelanders and many many more......we have a cultural wealth you Germans can only dream of.....that is why we can trade with the world....I think it was Tacitus who said he could not see India queuing up to trade with us.....it is happening already....

And your German arrogance is now clear for all to see.....this is the danger The EU was created to stop.....German imperialism.....Unfortunately, you have done it from the inside....we Brits saw that and got out.....others will see it too soon..

Ive heard this from a few Brits not associated with this forum as well.

Its just a big charade innit?

I think it was Tacitus who said he could not see India queuing up to trade with us.....it is happening already.....

No, what he meant is that it is rather doubtful that India will you give somehow privileged status because of your history...or that China will...or the US ("Make Britain Great Again", yeah sure:).

You know those romantic Commonwealth notion the Brexiters tried to sell you...

No...you will now be a normal trade partner but now without the asset of the biggest consumer single market behind it for negotiation leverage...

Miloslaw
21 Aug 2018  #203

Indians are already giving us priveleged status in negociations......we get on very well with Indians.
Unlike Germans......you have no cultural or linguistic history with that country,we are miles ahead already.

Its just a big charade innit?

Nope!

... The dynasty is of German paternal descent and was originally a branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, itself derived from the House of Wettin, which succeeded the House of Hanover.....

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Windsor

Indians are already giving us priveleged status in negociations.....

Really! Do you have a link? Because I only could found that:

India in no rush to do a trade deal with post-Brexit Britain

India's high commissioner to the UK says agreeing a free-trade deal with the EU is 'very important,' while a deal with the UK will take some time.

(The Indepdendent, 16 October 2012)

Now go figure!

even if we are an hour ahead of you

An hour behind. Still I suppose it's easy to get confused about that one hour time difference between GMT and CET when you live in America.

a very stupid idea to can a long standing free trade agreement

Another Americanism..........'to can' something.

You're not very good at this .

Atch,I don't know how long ago you lived in London but we use a lot of "Americanisms" now.

The kids started it and we older buggers have picked it up too.

I blame the TV show "Friends".....
