Actually Johnny in chicago concealed carry is now legal. This didn't change the murder rates or amount of shootings one bit. There was no significant difference a year(s) before the ban and a year(s) after the ban was lifted the murder rates been roughly the same for about 10 20 years. Sometimes theres a year with 10% more sometimes 10% less but you can expect around 300 plus murders and couple thousand shootings a month especially in summer. In fact the 90s were the worst years when there was a essentially a total ban on handguns (except cops, armoured car drivers, etc) within city limits and even more murders and shootings than there are now. Meanwhile Wisconsin allows private sales of guns with only showing a state id and the info doesn't even need to be written down. Just about every dude there is packing or at least knows a close friend or family member with guns yet its far safer than Illinois. Same thing with Indiana. Most of the guns the cops confiscate aren't even legal or they were purchased out of state and the serials have been filed off.
Why is it that just about every household in Switzerland esp the rural parts has at least one gun yet the murder rate is so small? In czechy its similar. Those two countries have some of the most lax guns laws in the world yet hardly any shootings or murders by way of guns. Honestly I'm asking... Could it perhaps be that the swiss and czech are more reasonable and don't immediately grab a pistol to settle an argument? People shooting each other over a woman or facebook comment is unheard of in Poland or those countries yet that's the norm in the us. Sure people will pick fights at discos but you fight receive or give a black eye but at least live another day.
On the other hand in Japan you need a license for an air rifle. Does that stop the yakuza guys from packing and killing opps when need be? Of course not... Its just that guns and bullets are more expensive. (Btw a taxi ride for 1 hr costs around $250 usd O.O)
If someone really really wants a gun, whether for home defense or for criminal acts, they will either buy it, print it, fabricate it, whatever. No ban will ever stop that. Look at the middle east too just about everyone has an ak in their house yet less people are murdered by guns in Afghanistan than in Chicago.. And were comparing a poor war torn country to an alpha city in the us..
In Poland anyone can buy one of those gas bobby pistols as well as these air rifles that shoot I believe 4.5 or 5.5 mm ball ammo without any permits id's etc and conversion into a real weapon is a piece of cake. Furthermore you can print out your own fully auto ar15 with no serial number on a 3d printer and it'll shoot a hundred roads if not more before the lower receiver starts malfunctioning.
Hence id say guns are a non issue... Again just my opinion though.. Banning or allowing them makes no significant difference...at least from my experience.. If you need a case study compare Chicago pre and post ban both of which has less shootings and murders than war town Afghanistan as well as the miniscule amount of shootings in chechy or Switzerland. Also its common in Chicago to have 15 shootings in a day but perhaps only 1 will be murdered during a shooting. The bangers tend to have bad aim and hence oftentimes innocent people are murdered. That's the only real downside I see because with a knife its pretty much impossible to wound or kill someone other than your intended target... On the other hand look at all the innocent people injured or killed by a van. Should we ban vans too?
Notice even the countries where there were terrorist attacks the guys have been using vans, cars, bombs and knives to wreak havoc. You don't need a gun to kill or injure several people... If someone wants to commit a violent crime they don't need a pistol shotgun ak etc. There's plenty of items around the house that will do that.. Hell the largest terrorist attack was done with a plane and killed 3k.
However a well armed populace can help prevent a larger body count during a terrorist act. For example, if a guy sees one two three people run over by a van perhaps he could shoot out the tires and force the perp out of the car before he runs over a fourth and fifth them stabs a sixth and seventh.
