Now to get back to the debate about animals that die on earth going to heaven.
That is false according to scripture HOWEVER............let's clarify the difference now that I got you thinking.

Being a typical Catholic, my knowledge of Holy Scripture is scanty :)) I only know what we were taught in school and we were taught most emphatically that although animals were living things, they had no soul and therefore did not go to Heaven. Recently Pope Francis threw a spanner in the works by saying that there is a place for pets in Heaven. This is more in line with what some religions like Spiritualism teach, where the general belief is that an animal with whom a human has had a personal bond will go to Heaven.

As for the lion and the lamb, that's the literal interpretation, but I think it's supposed to be symbolic, in that those who were powerful and dominant in life will be on equal terms with the meek and humble, so watch out Polish Forum members - Death, the great leveller!

As the Scriptures are so subject to individual reading, allowing animals into heaven would actually seem to make sense.Who really is to say that animals have no "animus" aka "soul". huh?

Catholicism teaches that animals have no soul when I went to Catholic school many many years ago.
In fact ever Christian religion I know believes that.

How about "How doing good works here on earth and just being a good person alone will not assure you a free pass into Heaven" ?

person A: tries to be a good person, does good works (helps out friends in need, contributes to charities, volunteers), but isn't religious so when a safe falls on his head he wakes up in a lake of fire - forever.

person B: is a member of the mafia and consistently steals, commits violence and even kills, on his deathbed accepts christ as his personal savior - one way ticket to heaven.

Whatever god it is that operates in that fashion doesn't seem like one people should.... worship.

Maf don't be silly. If somebody is 'saved' in the Evangelical sense, then they reject sin and try to lead a 'good' life. Evangelicals don't place an emphasis on good works, charity etc as a means of redemption but you are supposed to toe the line with your lifestyle and of course many Evangelicals actually do a lot of good works though it's usually either targeted at their own congegrations in the form of supporting each other in various ways or it's done in a missionary capacity and accompanied by a somewhat unpalatable dose of preaching and instruction to those on the receiving end.

"Try" being the operative word.

Do you have much experience with American Evangelicals (of which JR is probably one)? They very mcuh have the "accept JC and you're in heaven" and IME are remarkably fuzzy about what particular actions would lead to said acceptance being null and void.

Jews pray to the same G_d, therefore are equally entitled to enter the "same" Heaven, case closed!

Jews of course believe in Heaven/Hell, yet not in the literal sense:-) We also believe in G_d, contrary to popular stereotypes which state that "money" is their only true religion and that their G_d is names "Mullah" rather than "Allah", "Jaweh" etc... Don't believe a bloody word of such tripe!

Jews acquired the largely undeserved, not to mention thankless, reputation for being blood-sucking crungers, cheats and usurers because of vicious slanders and libel spread by the Catholic Church (which only apologized within the past twenty-five years thanks to that great Pole Wojtyła) that the Jews killed Christ.

In addition, the only work open to Jews was that of either tax collector or pawnbroker, since as you're doubtless aware, money changing was off limits to devout Christians:-) In order to survive, Jews were forced to perform the "dirty" work, distasteful or forbidden to gentiles, or risk being further banished!!

What's more, during the plagues, the Jews essentially survived unscathed, as they lived in ghettos, far from the town or city limits. Those citizens living within the city walls usually got the plague, the Jews who lived on the outskirts were often spared, this leading to the further rumor that the Jews remained intact solely because of what they stole from their non-Jewish neighbors across the river or city boundry.

What's curious for me about these Christian preachers is that they're not even attempting to hide the fact that you're putting money into their pockets. It's just astonishing how rich they are on the back of this, although it makes a lot of sense why you see people "entering ministry" after their sports career has ended.

I too wish it weren't so, but it was, and most shamefully, still is! A number of years back, Pat Robertson on open TV remarked that G_d doesn't hear the prayers of the Jews. Countless preachers have regrettably followed his lead. Not my words, but his!
