Music I have never got bored of

On a sad Note.... Legendary heavy metal band Black Sabbath is now selling T-Shirts for Black Live Matter and donating the proceeds to this extension of the DNC. They might as well endorse defunding the Police and Dementia Joe. FU OZZY! Speaking of dementia, he should be Bidens running mate.

the very talented Janelle Monae with "Tightrope".

I do quite like her music, but to me she is very reminiscent of Janet Jackson.

Celeste is relatively new but I do like her music:

Celeste - Stop This Flame

Love this too.....

Nina Simone - I put a spell on you

@Chemikiem
I love this song!

As for Billie Holiday, the song that really moves me is Strange Fruit - and her emotions when she sings it. Heartbreaking.

youtu.be/-DGY9HvChXk

Some other songs of this genre that I like:

Arletha and Natural Woman

youtu.be/dEWuAcMWDLY

Otis Redding The Dock of the Bay

youtu.be/rTVjnBo96Ug

Ray Charles Hit the Road

youtu.be/0rEsVp5tiDQ

Sarah Vaughan Whatever Lola Wants

youtu.be/QvcaSBN82ns

And I absolutely love Black Coffee -I like Peggy Lee's and Sarah's interpretations (just checked my previous post to see if I included it and saw that the auto correct played with 'Fever' ;)

youtu.be/GVnrEh56f_g

What is wonderful is that a lot of these songs were performed by different artists and they sound great in different interpretations.

Just like Cicha woda brzegi rwie - a cheerful innocent song from the sixties got a new meaning when Maleńczuk recorded it.
I actually have a similar example when it comes to English language songs but since my post is rather lenghty I'll keep it for the next time.

As for covers, amazing Nick Cave and Something' Gotten Hold of my Heart

her emotions when she sings it. Heartbreaking.

Very much so. She has a voice full of pathos. I have to be in the mood for Billie Holiday though, some of her songs make me feel sad.

Billie Holiday - Lady Sings The Blues

Billie Holiday - Summertime

Ray Charles

I love Ray Charles! I rarely go to the cinema because I have to really want to see a film, but I went to see ' Ray' when it was released. It's a great film if you haven't seen it and get the chance:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ray_(film)

Ray Charles - Georgia On My Mind

youtu.be/fRgWBN8yt_E

Ray Charles - What'd I Say

youtu.be/EPLZL4s_jtI

I love Sarah Vaughan too, and Aretha and Otis are on a playlist on my phone.

What is wonderful is that a lot of these songs were performed by different artists and they sound great in different interpretations.

Yep. 'Summertime' for example has been covered loads of times, most famously by Miles Davis perhaps, but I also liked versions by Ella Fitzgerald and Janis Joplin. Sarah Vaughan also did a version.

Listening to these artists is like going back to my childhood. My mother was the jazz and blues fan so I grew up listening to this music. Takes me back to a time of watching old black and white movies curled up on the sofa. Still love doing that now.

Fever, I love it too! I listen to it once a year

Hahaha! Haven't heard any Judas Priest for a long time now!

amazing Nick Cave and Something' Gotten Hold of my Heart

I didn't know Nick Cave had done a cover of this! I always think of Gene Pitney and later, Marc Almond.

Although all of these songs are great 'Georgia' is definely my favourite.

As for 'Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart' the first time I heard it was actually in Pitney and Almond's version. Years later I found out it was a cover and just several years ago a friend showed me Cave's version.

Just like 'Always on my Mind' the first version I kind of knew was probably Pet Shop Boys' ;)

My favourite Aretha song is 'Don't play that song for me '

Lightnin' Hopkins seems great - never heard of him before.
As for Country Roads I like the original version.
As for covers and original recordings, I first knew I Will Follow Him from Sister Act and it was just quite recently that I got to know Peggy March's version. And she was just a teenager when she recorded it. Her voice was really great for a kid really. And due to fashion back then she doesn't look like a teenager - at least in terms of how I see it now.

Lightnin' Hopkins seems great - never heard of him before.

Very popular in the early 70's.
I have several hours of his music on my reel to reel. (Does that age me)
Papa John Creach was very popular at that time too.
