You got any old time blues recommendations ?

When you say old time lets start with some Mississippi Delta Blues... where it all began.

Muddy " Mississippi" Waters

Thanks ! Muddy waters and koko Taylor I knew already but will try the others. One time when I was a kid I took the greyhound from Memphis to New Orleans and said that would go back to that place again for a road trip with a car - need to do those kind of things now before it's too late

One time when I was a kid I took the greyhound from Memphis to New Orleans

The name of that train is "City of New Orleans". A route taken my many travelers over the years made famous by Arlo Guthrie

What a great song, thanks for reminding me!

Its more like a national anthem in the US

I'm not very keen about Frenchie today or their revolution but they have a good stuff like that:

Probably not too many here will appreciate my choices, but they are all by a music legend and one of my all-time favourite artists.
This first track is also one of my all-time favourite songs.

Ry Cooder - The Very Thing That Makes You Rich (Makes Me Poor)

Ry Cooder - The Prodigal Son

one of my all-time favourite artists.

I was wondering why after all these years of knowing about Ry Cooder I never real got into him.
Your videos explained it for me.
I enjoyed them all, he is obviously very talented.
But, for me, he is a bit bland.......not enough "Oomph" for me.....I prefer my music with more emotion or more power.
Sorry Pam, but he just doesn''t light my fire.

Ry Cooder I never real got into him.

Did you ever see the guitar duel between Ry Cooder and Steve Vai in the movie Crossroads? Ry cooder wrote the soundtrack, its an awesome flick if you haven't seen it before.

youtu.be/TD4o3VDnftI

This should bring back some memories!

Its funny watching Vai get all upset and walk off the stage.... Like that would really happen..lol opps they cut it short, check out the movie...

@Joker

Believe it or not I have never seen that clip before.
Excellent stuff.

So tonight I have just three posts.
All by American artists, that I think link well to these apocalyptic times.
This is a guy that I have only recently disovered.
Jonathan Wilson with '69 Corvette.......listen to the lyrics......pure Americana and gorgeous.

youtu.be/EGyg7pvkhOw

This is quite an old tune now, but very American and with poignant lyrics.
This is Temple of the Dog with Hunger Strike.

youtu.be/VUb450Alpps

My third and last post tonight.
This is Jonathan Wilson again, but with a vey different tune.
This is called Desert Raven.
Again a post apocalyptic American view but with heavy Floydian undertones.....
I think it is superb.
Look after yourselves in these difficult times.

This is Temple of the Dog with Hunger Strike.

I bought this CD when it came out, its Cris Cornell ( Soundgarden) and Eddie Vedder ( Pearl Jam) effort. Theres a 5:00 grunge guitar solo on it...

Believe it or not I have never seen that clip before.

You never seen the movie " Crossroads" before? Hahaha.. Its a classic! All about Blues..

This is called Desert Raven.

Im listening to it right now, sounds good. Its making me feel like rolling up a joint:)

My third and last post tonight.

Heres a Blues night cap for you.....

Charlie Musslewhite and Ben Harper......Nightclub

Brilliant.

Hey Crow, Have you heard of this chick?
Katarina Pejak is a singer/songwriter and piano player based in Nashville, TN. She was born in Belgrade, Serbia. Katarina is blues influenced, both as a writer and pianist

She's really talented.

Damn Milo did you take me back to some serious nostalgia with those three tunes.
Thank you man as I sure did enjoy them tonight as I sit here in my toasty house with a fire going in the fireplace.

Raining out, windy and cold as I sat here listening to those tunes sipping some Jagermeister.

youtu.be/KekiupIKEWo

A very good Hard Rock band from Leicester that take their music seriously but not themselves.
This is called "Massacre".

youtu.be/vbHP8LuWDDk

youtu.be/15VF32tOrck

he just doesn''t light my fire.

Oh well, can't win 'em all!

Ry cooder wrote the soundtrack, its an awesome flick if you haven't seen it before.

The soundtrack is the reason I watched the film, but I did enjoy it, and yes, the guitar duel is great. Seems a lifetime ago now. I also really liked the soundtrack he did for the film Paris, Texas.

Jonathan Wilson
Desert Raven.

I really liked this tune! Not sure why but something aboit it reminded me of the band America. I also like this one by him:

Jonathan Wilson - "The Way I Feel"

youtu.be/lNCxDOHwRlY

A few more slightly diverse choices of mine:

Muddy Waters - Mannish Boy

youtu.be/bSfqNEvykv0

Muddy Waters - Hoochie Coochie Man

Steve Earle - Copperhead Road

Ok, I'm gonna butt in.

Just when you read 'light my fire', you just need to think of the Doors. At least I do.

Pretty much everyone heard of them so nothing unusual but I listened to them a lot when I was living at a certain place. Every time I listen to them now, I just go back to that place. Music sometimes does it, doesn't it.

It kind of brings back memories, images and even smells.

So here we start with a song I really didn't know was about drugs; )
The Crystal Ship

Alabama Song

If you like that, you may like this which follows it in the original Mahagonny-Songspiel (and the bigger opera they made it into).

Wow!
From Robert Johnson to Led Zeppelin..... a great choice of tunes from two of my favourites as well.
The Zep tunes are amongst my favourites too.
I got bored of "Stairway to Heaven" many years ago (I have read that Robert Plant hates it now) and "Battle of Evermore" has replaced that for me now.

@NoToForeigners

I enjoyed that remix.
Worked for me.

Most of the British Hard Rock bands that emerged in the late sixties and early seventies had their chief influences from the Blues.
Led Zeppelin were no exception.

@Chemikiem

This is one you missed.... ;-)

The odds of anyone else enjoying this are minimal, but here goes:

Xeic! - Som! - it's unashamedly pro-Catalonia, pro-independence.

And for the hell of it, my favourite Bruce Springsteen song, Badlands:
