Long story brate. For starter be advised that spiritual strength of the Slavic civilization coming from within Serbia. Why? Its obvious influence on other Slavs. In my opinion this coming from fact that other Slavs feel that Serbian perception on other Slavs ignore inter-Christain antagonisms. Yes, Serbs are Orthodox. But they celebrate (in Christian form) ancient Slavic family custom SLAVA. To Serbs, ancestors stand side by side with Christ, Father and Mother. And by that, you share religious life with all other Slavs and tries to encompass them because you share ancestors with them. To us, its a religious dogma. No deviation from the path of the ancestors is possible.
It was Nemanjic dynasty (Rastko Nemanjic, 3-rd son of Veliki Zupan Stefan. Rastko later known as St. Sava) that took credit for preservation of SLAVA within our Christianity. Nemanjici Veliki Zupani. Tzars. At first they were Catholics but when Pope wanted absolute control of Serbs, Nemanjc`s gave him middle finger, took Orthodoxy, created national Church and increased effort to secure SLAVA as connection to ancestors, because they always believed in unique values of Slavic civilization.
BDW, Jadwiga was project of Polish Piast and Serbian Nemanjic magnates, and by some that is exactly why papacy forbade her to have children. Certainly, Popes were afraid of restoration of money flow on the Balkan-Baltic line in past known as amber trade route. Simple, Jadwiga had richest and most noble blood line in back then Europe.
So, Putin knows this. And he value Serbian path of Orthodoxy. Especially now when Greeks and Patriarch of Constantinople betrayed. Betrayal surprised Russians but not Serbians. To us, all others are just strangers with their own interests. We have ancestors and we know who are our brothers. We have past and we have clear future.

Putin at temple of St. Sava in Belgrade, came personaly to take part in finishing the icon of St. Sava
Metaphysically speaking, when Putin venerate St. Sava he, beside all other, venerate Poland, too, by choosing path of ancestors
