Brexit 2019 and Poland

Ziemowit

The Irish never had a Piast or equivalent.

Piasts also fought against each other ...

Looks like an upward trend to me.

Or a correction in a downward one ...

Piasts also fought against each other .

The difference is that Poland was a country.
Ireland wasn't.

Or a correction in a downward one .

Blimey, is it all negative with you?
Glass half empty?
My glass is half full......

My glass is half full......

That's because you have dual nationality Miloslaw and so Brexit doesn't affect your rights to such a degree. But it will affect the poorer in society, and that's not just a theory.

All of us can have a glass half full when we have something nice to contemplate - not the hate that your side whips up, with that "Why are you smiling" Pritti Patel as your cheerleader. Imagine waking up next to that.

Pritti Patel as your cheerleader. Imagine waking up next to that

Are you becoming a racist now Doug?
Hard to believe......
She is a superb example of a British Asian refugee done good.
And she and her family have done good by sticking to their principles and morals.
Old Brits like you could learn from these young immigrants...... but I don't suppose you will.....

a racist now Doug?

I'll tell you one thing I've observed over the years in Blighty. And it is simply this.
Immigrants are some of the biggest racists and hypocrites out there. And Patel is a nasty piece of work, who has already been sacked once for going beyond her portfolio, and the distaste for this woman was clear in Andrew Marr on Sunday - so I am in good company.

Immigrants are some of the biggest racists and hypocrites out there

Wow!
A brilliant and brave thing to say.
You are not wrong.
Too many people are afraid to say it for fear of being branded "racist".
But I have a lot of good humoured banter with my employees on exactly this subject.
They are very open about their racism too.
But I don't think Priti Patel is one of them.
She is far too British.
BTW, I have one Bulgarian employee and he was mercilessly taunted today......

Looks like we're nearing a possible deal. Of course even if the European parliament gives it the green light, it still has to get through the UK parliament. I don't think the DUP will be a problem as they were consulted before the text was drawn up but I think it'll be a very tight margin on getting it through all the same.

I thought I read about kings of Ireland. Or was I mistaken?

No, you're not mistaken. Ruardhi O'Connor was the last High King of Ireland. But they didn't rule the nation as such, only got an earner out of the kings of the four provinces :)) All kingships though generally based on blood were nonetheless electoral with the king choosing his successor during his own lifetime but the successor was frequently challenged.

The unifying elements of Ireland were the close blood ties between the various ruling families (there were certain very powerful families who had territories all over Ireland) the language and the cultural norms, certain administrative practises for example the Brehon legal system which was observed by the whole country, customs, mythology and legends and of course from the fifth century onwards the Catholic faith.

In a word you could say that it was the Gaelic culture that defined Ireland. That's what made it a nation and that was what the English tried to destroy through various means over the centuries. If the nation hadn't been so closely bound by and deeply rooted in the Gaelic culture, it would have been much easier to colonize and anglicize.

You are a perfect example of the problem with Ireland.

Maybe it's because I'm descended from the English :)

tsk.. tsk... Some are and some aren't Dough, generalization of that sort is racist itself. Beside you are an immigrant and as such according to your formula ...

But they didn't rule the nation as such, only got an earner out of the kings of the four provinces :))

In there were not a King of Ireland or Kingdom of Ireland ever, same tribal chieftains not the same thing. Although in about 1401 or thereabouts there was a change for Ireland to become a kingdom.

The DUP have just refused to agree to Boris's deal.
No Brexit.
Extension.
Milo , your Halloween party now needs cancelling.

I said "some immigrants". What do you not understand about the use of that qualifier?

Deal agreed.
Now to Super Saturday.

Hey guys its a good time to take your cash out of Britain, the exchange rates are up because of the Brexit deal news.

Do it quick because when the reality of Brexit deal or no deal hits the pound will be worthless , tee hee hee.

New deal approved by the other EU states at the summit meeting. Now it's up to the UK parliament..........of course the DUP won't vote for it.

exchange rates are up

You are 36 hours too late with the market rates Dolno. Order already filled, but thanks for your (false) concern!

dolnoslask
17 Oct 2019  #2056

You are 36 hours too late

I know it's late (I already shifted a load) but the rate is still good compared to the last few weeks.

Glad you know me so well that you can decide when I am being false comrade, your brother Corbyn wil be in power soon and you will be greeted with a red carpet , a new car and house on your return to Britain.

Remember keep the red flag flying.

Miloslaw
17 Oct 2019  #2057

.of course the DUP won't vote for it.

I would not be too sure about that....and even if they don't it probably won't matter.

Corbyn wil be in power soon

Absolutely no chance of that happening.

Get those party hats out and call the caterers back in Milo! :(

I have never canceled the party.
Brexit will happen.

Dougpol1
17 Oct 2019  #2058

the red flag

The only red flag I can see is the one here in Poland - where PIS are throwing my hard earned taxes around like confetti on the idle and the rich with 3 or 4 kids who don't need the handouts. In the meantime in 29 years working in Poland I have received the square root of zilch from the Polish state - so yes, I would expect to be treated fairly if and when I returned to the UK.

Of course I will never return to live in a post Brexit Britain, should it ever happen, because I am a proud European and not a racist xenophobe such as Johnson, whose only policy is "Let's make Britain Great again" when it was the Tories who fukked with Britain in the first place. Hopeless attempted shining of a giant turd.

even if they don't it probably won't matter.

Your maths is off kilter Milo. Grieve and Ken Clarke will NOT vote for this deal, So you would need 13 Labour rebels to vote with the government.

There will be 6 of them, or thereabouts. You can put your house on another defeat for Johnson, and an extension, unless he wants to pratt about with the courts, damage the economy yet further on this farce, and crash the pound again.

Such a shame that you will miss out on our success and have to suffer the failure of the EU instead.

Of course I will never return to live in a post Brexit Britain

Hey don't let this Brexit crap ruin your long term return plan, you are making me feel bad now.

Hopeless attempted shining of a giant turd.

The entire house of commons are a shower of disgraceful shite that will not allow a informed public to take a new vote.

Dougpol1
17 Oct 2019  #2061

miss out on our success

Yes - you are right. The UK will be a success, when a second referendum puts all this to bed and the status quo is restored. In the meantime, the Tories keep burning the billions of taxpayers' money on all this uncertainty, all for the purpose of political idealism and to "save" the Conservative party from Farage.

Tut-tut.

will not allow a informed public to take a new vote.

I know what you mean Dolno. It's ridiculous that Corbyn will not back a new vote. But not the vote that you are talking of:)

Miloslaw
17 Oct 2019  #2062

when a second referendum puts all this to bed

There will not be a second referendum.
Only an election.

It's ridiculous that Corbyn

Corbyn is ridiculous and will soon be replaced.

I knew BOJO could pull it off and with the backing of the Queen its a No brainer:)

Dougpol1

Best not to comment on matters of which you are clearly ignorant. The Queen has a soley titular role, and anyway in private life is a champagne socialist.

mafketis

I knew BOJO could pull it off

Well it does appear that he's done two things that everyone thought were impossible
-new deal
-got Ireland on board...

I've read that his bumbling dumb guy act in public is just that, an act that too many people fall for....

Dougpol1
18 Oct 2019  #2066

two things that everyone thought were impossible

It's May's deal - only further away from EU alignment. And he clearly hasn't got Ireland on board, has he? Not the people that "matter", anyway. Let's ask the British people what they think - after this deal has been voted down tomorrow.

Atch
18 Oct 2019  #2067

The DUP have confirmed that they won't vote in favour of the deal. They want an extension. Pointless for NI, because the deal can't really be improved any further for them but the DUP doesn't care about the people of NI or the UK. They care about maintaining DUP dominance and veto in NI politics. It's nothing to do with Brexit and everything to do with power.

On the plus side for Remain, if the DUP swings the Commons balance enough to scupper the deal, there will be no Brexit on 31 October.

It's May's deal

Exactly, it's the basically the backstop under another name.

got Ireland on board...

You really don't understamd Ireland/UK relations do you? We get along pretty well as a rule and Ireland has always wanted to reach a deal with the UK. We haven't been 'fighting' them. We've been trying to find a deal that works for both sides. Did you watch any of the footage of Varadkar and Johnson together. They quite clearly basically like each other and want to do business.

mafketis
18 Oct 2019  #2068

the DUP

NI protestants are probably my least favorite political group in Europe (if not the world) slightly edging out Catalan independistes...

Why doesn't the UK just force independence on them? They can try to join Ireland (if you'll have them which... why would you?) or go looking for an EU sugar daddy to replace London.

delphiandomine
18 Oct 2019  #2069

Why doesn't the UK just force independence on them?

Civil war, basically. The Irish government would almost certainly intervene, and you'd have large numbers of British civilians fleeing NI into GB - who doesn't want them.

Atch
18 Oct 2019  #2070

Why doesn't the UK just force independence on them?

Maf, I explained this to you before. NI will only join with the Republic following a border poll where a majority in both jurisdictions vote in favour. That is the legal position, agreed by the British and Irish governments and endorsed by the electorate back in 1998. There can be no question of NI being kicked out of the UK. They are also not capable of surviving as an independent state, no matter how much money you pump into them. NI has proven incapable of self-government since its inception.
