Brexit 2019 and Poland

Hey, maybe Trump will buy them? He seems to like that kind of stuff :)

NI will only join with the Republic

Well give them independence then (wasn't that the IRA's goal, a NI independent of both the UK and Ireland?) That's what a Irish person told me back in the 80s...

British civilians fleeing NI into GB - who doesn't want them

I totally get GB not wanting them... (and understand Ireland wanting to keep them at arm's length as well...)

It must suck belonging to a group that everybody dislikes... no wonder they're so remarkably unpleasant...

wasn't that the IRA's goal,

The clue to the IRA's goal would be in their name - Irish (not Northern Irish) and Republican as in Republic of Ireland.

Well give them independence then

No change can be made to the status of NI without the consent of the Irish people. That's the legal position.

By 'them' you appear to be talking about the hardline Unionists. They do not represent the whole of the population of NI, they don't even represent all Unionists, some of whom are moderate and reasonable and not bigoted or filled with suspicion and paranoia. There is no solution to the problem of the DUP and their ilk other than time and patience and hard work at building cooperation and good will between the reasonable members of both the Nationalist and Unionist communities.

@Dougpol1
Then stay off the US threads next time you want to preach gun control to us! We don't want to hear you shooting your mouth off either:)

Dougpol1
18 Oct 2019  #2075

Now Joker, just leave your guns and mobile phones at reception:)

Anyway, on an important note - Super Saturday and the big vote tomorrow will be cancelled.
An amendment calls for an extension, for more negotiation, and this will pass.
So, no Brexit on October 31st. Sorry Milo - save the bubbly, and cancel the matching band. 😂

I said "some immigrants".

No, you haven't. You said "Immigrants are some of the biggest racists ...."

What do you not understand about the use of that qualifier?@ Dougpol1

Used the way you used it - says - Immigrants are even bigger racist that a local population. IF you are talking about yourself you know the best. If however you talking about others I just pointed out your double standards.

A pedantic and quarrelsome Ironside opens Saturdays' proceedings, on what is a huge, huge day for the UK and the EU.
The tide seems to be turning in Brexit's favour - reflecting the fact that some Labour MPs have no principles and are for sale.

Happy to be proved wrong, but I have woken up with a bad feeling about the proceedings.

They have been showing all the drama and mass confusion coming out of Parliament today. Hey, how come the Brits never switched from the Pound to the Euro? Is it coz you never really wanted to be in the EU? Make up your mind already, the rest of the world is laughing at you! 😂😂😂

Dougpol1
19 Oct 2019  #2079

Make up your mind already,

Extension voted for. The 3rd.
Unlike you, with your executive Presidential decrees from a madman, we properly debate a proposed generational change in our way of life. Sorry joker - I know this must hurt. But we take our time on parliamentary checks on suggested extremes of legislation, because we are not in any shape or form as dim as you Yanks.

Extension voted for

The UK political establishment's Grand Kabuki to overturn Brexit (cause why should votes by the public matter?) continues.

we properly

let our betters decide what's good for us!

They could put this deal to a public vote of course - that would give a final answer

Dougpol1
19 Oct 2019  #2082

let our betters decide what's good for us!

Under British tradition, Parliament is sovereign, and makes decisions on our behalf. If we don't like it, we can change the make up of the parliament at a general election. That has been explained to you before on this thread. Why don't you listen for a change instead of talking?

They could put this deal to a public vote of course

LOL. And there is only ONE real reason why they will never agree to that.

mafketis

Actually at this point in time... you can't.

@doug

Parliament taking their time? It's been over 3 years!😆
All the MPs seem to do is yell at one another and don't get anything achieved. I think the UK is totally screwed up. Hey, why did you leave the UK for Poland? You told us you've been living there 30+ years. It must a really horrible place since you've moved away for decades. Why do you still care about their policies then?

I'm just was curious about the UK. I don't blame you for moving away from that dump.

Can you still vote since you're not really a true Brit anymore???

Dougpol1
19 Oct 2019  #2085

Hey, why did you leave the UK for Poland?

I have been constantly asking myself that question - every Christmas in fact. They come round faster and faster - as you would attest yourself probably:)

I care about UK policies, because just as Gore Vidal remained an American, I am not about to be disabused of my Britishness. In fact, I couldn't really give one what the Poles get up to, because their political problems are not mine. I teach and proof read, and write some technical texts, and the Polish Sejm could slip into the sea and I wouldn't shed a tear.

England's green and pleasant land, on the other hand, is being endangered by Johnson and his right wing cronies, "Selling England by the pound"

UK right to vote is lost after 15 years emigration. What was SCANDALOUS was that British passport holders who were actually born in the UK were not permitted to vote in the referendum whereas that bitcch Home secretary of ours, born in Uganda to Asian parents, could.

Outrageous.

My glass is half full......

Well - your glass will be half empty on Halloween Miloslaw. That is going to be a very subdued party, with the UK still, where it belongs, in the European Union.

I will raise a (half full) glass of orange juice to that!

because we are not in any shape or form as dim as you Yanks.

...when you so brilliantly decided to open the flood gates to any and all kinds of scum that happened to have made it by boat, hook, or crook into the EU.

Or was it your "elders" in the House of Nuts who didn't think things though?
You do realize that that cancer will consume you, do you?

What was SCANDALOUS was that British passport holders who were actually born in the UK were not permitted to vote

That is outrageous! Im glad we have a better political system and our constitution is the best document ever put to paper. Its too bad our government is being hi-jaked by fascist liberals, but they haven't won yet:)

I have been constantly asking myself that question - every Christmas in fact

I would be homesick much quicker than that. Perhaps, I could last a year or so..... I don't know about being in Poland durning the winters with all that coal burning either.

England's green and pleasant land, on the other hand

I was messing with you about UK being a dump. I was very surprised by some of the scenic beauty, particularly the coastline and York Mooors.

"Selling England by the pound"

One of the great Prog-Rock songs of all time! Hehe

One of Milos' likely Halloween party guests leaves parliament with his minders after today's government humiliation. It's a pity that he needs protection, but Gove babbles on like Ziobro does in the Polish parliament - and Brits don't take kindly to be being lectured on what's good for them by a Tory twat.

Not the impression I get... y'all get lectured to by all sorts of idiots and mostly you just smile and nod...

Very good observation! Sincere, we are not:)

One of Milos' likely Halloween party guests

I wish he was a guest.
Party is still on BTW.
Now it will be a case of Boris's deal or no deal.... :-)
I am happy either way.
PARTY TIME!!l!!!!

Dougpol1
19 Oct 2019  #2094

a case of Boris's deal or no deal..

I don't think Bercow will allow them to bring back the motion for a second time so soon - no one told the government to pull the vote - it was their decision.

I must admit Milo - it's all a bit strange. Apaprently the DUP decided to vote FOR the amendment, rather than abstain, only a minute before they went into the voting lobby.

Now there is more talk of a second referendum. It's not going away. Nobody knows what will happen. On the other hand, liberally minded people like Ken Clarke know say they will vote for Johnson's right wing deal.

Confused.com.

Miloslaw
19 Oct 2019  #2095

it's all a bit strange

You are right.
You could not make this stuff up!
But I am convinced that we will leave on Halloween, one way or the other.
As I have said before, don't underestimate Boris.
That buffonish character is his natural defence mechanism.

Dougpol1
19 Oct 2019  #2096

So you're an employer Miloslaw? So will you agree with me that Keir Starmer talks a lot of sense about the economic side of Brexit and how you will be worse off.

Don't you care about that?

Miloslaw
20 Oct 2019  #2097

So you're an employer Miloslaw?

I am.
But a small company, I only employ 20 people.
Only two were born in Britain.
One is English and the other has Ugandan Asian parents.
The rest were born abroad.
Half have British passports, the rest are on EU passports but have all got rights to remain.
I do care about that but i will never be worse off.
I treat my staff very well, pay them well above the idiotic minimum wage and have a very small turnover of staff.
Even if i lose one who goes on to better himself, which i encourage, there will be plenty more legal workers to fill his or her shoes.

No, i am not worried.

Good. Here in Poland, we all notice that prices for food and services are suddenly much higher. I don't know how this fact is hidden in the inflation figures, but I have cut down radically on the weekly shop, and can't help but put this increase in prices down to government interference in the economy.

Miloslaw

Here in Poland, we all notice that prices for food and services are suddenly much higher

Not living in Poland I couldn't possibly comment.
But I can't see why this should be happening.
Can anyone resident in Poland shed any light on this?

Dougpol1
20 Oct 2019  #2100

anyone resident in Poland

Pawian and his ilk will deny it, because they live in a bubble. Worth a thread on it's own. PIS - giving out social payments willy-nilly on one hand, while food prices are up at least 15 percent in the last couple of years on the other - which mysteriously people are not up in arms about.
