this isn't so much a grand conspiracy as a lucky break (for those wanting the changes involved)

the problem is that governments wouldn't even be trying this if populations weren't demanding it, it's not a case of righteous people being manipulated by sinister forces - it's less and more unsettling at the same time

the idea of governments no longer providing services like police and education have broad support across the political spectrum (most people are just too dim to realize the consequences).

people (esp in the US and probably UK) who want these changes are going along with the agenda without even wondering why...

First lets disarm the term "conspiracy"

"Conspiracy: a secret agreement made between two or more people or groups to do something bad or illegal that will harm someone else"

And now answer yourself two questions:

1) Are you fully informed about all crucial decisions and agreements being made in political cabinets, international organizations and NGO offices?

2) Does some of those changes harm you in any way (including economic harm and/or limitations of your civil liberties)?

If you said 'no' to the 1st question and 'yes' to the 2nd question, congratulations, you are a conspiracy theorist :-)

Yes, the current situation is partially a result of a lucky break: the public didn't 'buy' swine flu or bird flu but now they are fully hooked on corona flu.

But the whole social changes were initiated since at least the late 60s (The long march through the institutions). It takes time to metodically demoralize the whole society.

It's not a conspiracy, it's an agenda. The one percent have a very different agenda than do the rest of us and they pursue it when and how they can, opportunistically. They're far too depraved and stupid to be able to really plan things.

Paying attention quickly reveals the absolute stupidity and fecklessness of the mega rich (basic evolution - they never suffer for their mistakes and they never learn and their children grow stupider and more feckless with each generation). They couldn't plan a stampede in a pen full of buffalo and a pocket full of firecrackers.

The forces behind corona dystopia come as much from the public as from the elite (more's the pity).

With regards to personal liberty that is one if the things that has shocked me - the willingness with which people accepted this radical curtailment of their liberty and extra police powers, no questions asked. That is something far more dangerous than the virus and makes me think a lot about other decisions in my life - where to keep emergency money, whether health insurance is worth it, whether to stockpile food etc.

What's even weirder it's hat some of the places with the strongest desire to lock up their citizens are ones that have been very free so far - Australia, NZ, France etc

Probably that's why. They trust their government not to abuse it.

I don't know about France but as a group English speaking countries have not responded that well - Polish people had had enough by Easter and were completely done with it by the May holidays. In the US apparently you still have people afraid to leave their house... and Australia and NZ flirting with authoritarian measures.

As I've written before cultures like Poland don't like uncertainty but are okay with calculated risks - English speaking countries are the opposite - they don't mind uncertainty and novelty but _hate_ known risk.

In a modern welfare state the society is treated like a cattle - the State 'gives' food and shelter and in turn demands obedience - this leads to a point when most people would develop a mentality of a cattle.

And they'll teach their kids the same.

Poland is doing very well comparatively.
PARIS - Cases of coronavirus are spiking in France, Spain and the United Kingdom even as social distancing restrictions ease, stoking concerns among doctors and policymakers about a "second wave" in countries still reeling from the pandemic's first wave.

I guess I should count my blessings to have the daily forum crier tell me to panic when we should be praying.

I beg to differ as people here may at best look at these statistics once a week at best and most not at all.
