Coronavirus in Poland

The FDA, the bias media and "big tech" etc. didn't want to announce this break through a few days before the election....

Interesting....that claim is being refuted by BioNTech boss:

BioNTech chief rejects Trump claim it delayed Covid vaccine news

Exclusive: Ugur Şahin says he and Pfizer CEO received results night before announcement

theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/12/biontech-chief-rejects-trump-claim-it-delayed-covid-vaccine-news-pfizer

...But BioNTech's chief executive, Prof Uğur Şahin, told the Guardian in a wide-ranging interview he only was notified of the outcome of the interim trials on Sunday at 8pm in a call from the Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, who himself had only been informed three minutes earlier by the independent monitoring board.

"We want to develop this vaccine as quickly as possible, and we have our own system of coordinates," Şahin said in response to Trump's accusation. "Every day counts, and we were desperately waiting for the day of the trial results. It couldn't come early enough."...

I mean, we are talking about companies here, not charities. Imagine how risky it would be for them to delay the announcement, and then suddenly another company announces their own breakthrough. Not only would they lose out an the public attention and increase in share holdings and public contracts, they would also open themselves up for lawsuits by their shareholders who would have lost on a lot of money. I suspect this might even be in violation of the law.

I suspect this might even be in violation of the law.

US law is super strict about this kind of thing. If the company has information that can materially affect the stock price, they're more or less obliged to announce it immediately. Anyway, it's all in line with their timetable, as they've been saying for months now that they expected to announce whether it was a success in November.

.But BioNTech's chief executive

There are people out there that would actually believe that.

One thing that is striking is how Trump voters think the world revolves around them. Here are some guys stuck in a lab solving the worlds biggest problem and the Republicans immediate reaction is that it is a foul plot to diddle them out of power.

If Trump had spent the same amount of time actually trying to combat this virus as he has on these dumb theories then everyone will be in a better place anyway.

I have to agree cms.
My idea is to snap pictures with your cell phone of these idiots that refuse to wear a mask or wear it improperly and sent it to a national data bank.

And with facial recognition in todays technology identify these people and when they show up at a hospital to be treated for the virus refuse to treat them.

There are still morons walking into grocery stores here refusing to wear masks with no consequences.
Until there is a 'law' that requires a mask to be worn properly, people simply will not as 'mandates' hold no water and are simply a suggestion.

What are the laws in Poland on masks and what are the consequences if people refuse to wear one and properly ?
Waiting for an effective vaccine is nothing more then, "hope in one hand and sht in the other and see which one fills up the quickest."

You can get a heavy fine.

I would say compliance is like this

In a car nobody
In the street maybe 70 percent, some people will pull it up if they approach someone else
On the tram and in shops 99 percent t compliance

Teens and alcoholics don't really seem that bothered but normally have some kind of mask with them

Interesting

Pfizer's CEO sold $5.6 million in stock the day he announced promising vaccine news

Interesting

Interesting is right !
Bourla sold 132,508 Pfizer (PFE) shares at a price of $41.94, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
That works out to proceeds of nearly $5.6 million.
Yesterday the Pfizer stock closed at $37.55.
That works out to be nearly $5 million.
$600,000 profit isn't bad for a days work.
How did he know ?
Some may call this "Insider Trading" !

...the spokeswoman said that "these are predetermined plans managed through a third-party stock administrator."

They must know that this looks at best fishy....

@Bratwurst Boy
This is not a big deal. I have automatic sell orders on stocks all the time triggered by certain stock prices. 600K in profit for that volume of stock is nothing. It wont even raise a flag with investigators. Buying and selling stock is all about price averaging this is nothing.

Well the number of cases is fairly steady - 24000 for most of the week but our death rate is climbing - over 500 today. Quite a worry and I think the real figures may be higher ?

death rate is climbing - over 500 today

The reporting is probably distorted this week because of the holiday, I think we need to wait until next week (around Tuesday, Wednesday) to get a realistic picture.

In other news some idiot patient tried to sneak a cigarette and set the hospital on fire (not realizing that oxygen spreads flames?) I hope he survives and faces a long time in prison...

That has less to do with the dangerousness of covid and more to do with the criminal neglect that the healthcare sector has suffered through successive Polish governments, since PiS oversaw a period of relative economic well-being it deserves more blame for the way it continually spit in the faces of healthcare workers...

And it's still at it....

When you test positive here in Michigan all they do is tell you to go home and stay self quarantined for two weeks.
Some people do and most people don't.
Like I said at the beginning of this thread, "It is every man for himself."

Interesting fact.
The United States has 4% of the worlds population yet has 20% of the worlds Covid cases.
Was the U.S.A. targeted ?

I hear that one the creaters of the vaccine stated that it could be another 12 months that life will be back to normal. I understand that managing expectations is important but statements like that don't help. Realistically I think things have to be more or less back to normality by late Spring at the latest. Besides I'm not quite convinced that everyone will need to take it before restrictions can be lifted and is rather unrealistic anyway. I don't agree with anti vaxers but I would be uncomfortable with the idea of forced vaccinations. It's a bit different from wearing a mask.

Are you talking about America or Poland or the EU? Problem with this thread is that people keep mentionng America so it would be helpful if we put our remarks in context.

The EU has a population of 500 million and they have ordered only 300 million of the Pfizer/Biotech vaccine which requires an initial shot and a booster so that's 150 million people who can be vaccinated. Therefore in the EU, there will be no question of everybody being vaccinated.

I think things have to be more or less back to normality by late Spring at the latest.

Not going to happen, not in the EU anyway.

I would have to agree.
Even with a new pharmaceutical company (Maderna) coming out this morning with their vaccine being 95% effective.
This vaccine does not to be stored at minus -70 degrees like Phizers does which should help in distribution.
There will be more then just the Phizer vaccine being available so hope is on it's way for everyone that wants a vaccine.
They are now saying that between now and the end of the year there will be huge a amount of deaths however.

Best time to invest in medical companies, especially those working on expensive vaccines against Chinese flu. Which is a mutating virus for which millions (billions?) of people will have to take regular flu shots. Some countries may even force their "citizens" to take it.

I can't think about a better business model right now

The EU has been busy doing their Christmas shopping over the last few days! They've been striking deals for vaccines from the world and his wife, totalling a combined 1.4 billion doses.

Under advance purchase agreements negotiated by the EU during the pandemic, the bloc makes a non-refundable down-payment to a vaccine maker to secure a certain number of doses for an agreed price, which will then be paid by EU states willing to buy the shot only after it is authorised as safe and effective by the EU drugs regulator.

The vaccine suppliers are Pfizer/BioNTech, CureVac, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Johnson & Johnson and Sanofi.

Yes let's erode freedoms and force people to take unproven vaccines for a mild flu with a 99.97% survivability rate... makes sense..

France is now even forcing people to have "paperwork" that they must present to a cop if questioned or face a fine. Utter insanity....

Just another excuse to take one more of our freedoms away.
The people that are not vaccinated are the ones that will die.

Tacitus
16 Nov 2020  #3748

Except even with vaccine there is a amall chance that you can get the virus. The more people take the vaccine, the less the danger becomes. And then there are people who can not take the vaccine (e.g. those with a compromises immune system) and who depend on others taking it.

hell away from me in a loud voice.

No worries, I tend to avoid freaks in dust masks - which are not mandatory in relatively sane UK - anyway. I suggest that you should also put an aluminium foil cap on your head to be perfectly safe
