Coronavirus in Poland

@amiga500
"adjusted for working days" you are a real idiot. Accountants lie, real numbers not adjusted don't. The fact is while growth has constantly been projected, GDP has declined. The average difference according to credible sources is a swing of between 8 and 9%. 5% growth projected and 3 to 4% actual decline. An 8 to 9%swing is devastating to a nations economy. It effects debt structure, future financing, and a whole slew of other things. I just happen to own a company in the business consulting arena, so numbers I definitely understand. The press lies on both sides.

Poland is in deep. Just to kill time last night I walked around 6 blocks in my neighborhood. I live in an older area with new construction taking pace and very high $ M2 real estate. 27 store fronts vacant that once had small business thriving in them. Thats what things look like on the ground in a neighborhood that does not rely on tourist income.

No it isn't.

So even if always-obiedient Germans are protesting there's no excuse for the rest of Europe

"At least 12 police officers were injured on Saturday during an illegal demonstration against coronavirus health measures imposed by the German government in the city of Dresden."

An 8 to 9%swing is devastating to a nations economy. It effects debt structure, future financing, and a whole slew of other things

The effects are sadly visible already. I've long worried about the level of defaults in commercial and consumer credit and the effects on the banks.

always-obiedient Germans

Not "always-obedient", even far from it given the huge number of protests there about anything and everything.

then explain this....

Nothing to explain. The writer comments that Ferguson is saying that policies were to an extent copied where that was seen to be valuable, then goes on to criticise his approach.

Ferguson is saying that policies were to an extent

Which is what I said... (there's also lots of evidence that this 'copying' wasn't spontaneous but the result of sustained efforts by the CCP). But denial of the verifiable is attractive I guess.

where that was seen to be valuable

These responses which go against decades of evidence based policy will have devastating social and educational and economic consequences for many years, with minorities and the poor (and especially intersection of those two groups) hit the hardest.... and weirdly leftists are cheering on the destruction of public education and the police and social infrastructure - that's what happens when neoliberal status vvh0ring becomes the norm I guess.

Bauman predicted that the left would eventually be the ones demanding austerity (defund the police, no in person school for the poor) he just didn't foresee how it would happen.

the result of sustained efforts by the CCP

They didn't make any decisions in/for western countries.

devastating social and educational and economic consequences for many years

This is clear, however there's been no real alternative to some degree of lockdown or curfew.

@jon357
2.7% inflation for the quarter gives us nearly 10% inflation for 2020. Excellent work PiS.

Defaults on loans you say? Like record setting bankruptcy filings? Finance companies closing up shop in Krakow. Real estate prices finally coming down, it took a year, but its happening in commercial and residential. House for sale last summer for just over a million is now less than 890K. Commercial property for sale for over two years, now just for rent.

Lets keep that pandemic craziness going. I am going to make some serious money this year simply by buying financially distressed property.

Defaults on loans you say? Like record setting bankruptcy filings? Finance companies closing up shop in Krakow.

Yes, that. It was sadly inevitable given the lack of joined-up thinking in PiS.

@jon357
Exports in January 2021 alone fell by 4.3% over January 2020 numbers. Exports since COVID you ask? Down roughly 12%. Yes. Poland is fine. Nothing to see here, keep moving along. Lets just send the Police out to break up some demonstrators to keep everyone from noticing whats happening. Oh, you mean that sanepid officials are now being punished by the courts and so are police by having their pay cut in half while actions against them are pending for trying to enforce illegal lockdowns? How about we open up some more churches in vacant store fronts? Yep, that will do it, Krakow is now fixed with this latest idea.

Sadly I see this trend continuing. We also have to factor in Brexit, since food exports to the UK are a key part of the economy here.

How about we open up some more churches in vacant store fronts?

It's a bad sign. The soup kitchens in Warsaw have queues now at Depression-era levels.

The bankrupt and the boot-licker.

That description perfectly sums up a lot of the PiS key support base...

Europe is now a lessen how "democracies" can't handle "pandemics" because that would require the iron fist like China's and suspension of "civil rights". To be efficient, the weasely "democracies" would have to - oh my God - discriminate between the sickly fatsos and the healthy. In matriarchal societies that is not allowed to happen, no matter how many will die and how much damage will be inflicted on the economy as long as "we are in it together".

Feelings are always first. Logic and statistics are cruel and hateful.

@amiga500
Have you ever been to Poland? Or are you just another one of those trolls that likes pierogi ruskie? I probably make more in a day than you make in a month.

Just took a walk to rynek. Florianska has 11 empty store fronts that last summer had thriving business in them. Things are not much better on rynek either. Though I did find a few places with creative back to business brown paper covering windows, and one pub that is now offering haircuts.

@Novichok
Exactly what I have been saying. Tell the sick and infirm to stay home. Let the rest go to work. If they dont want to stay home, then thats just life.

Tell the sick and infirm to stay home. Let the rest go to work.

How dare you! That's discrimination!!! You should know that we are all equal!
This is how woke weasels destroy and feel good at the same time.

Of course there was...

It didn't work so well in Sweden.

And we can't know how it would have been in Poland, UK, etc without them.

At least in the UK infection rates are halving (as opposed to their pre-lockdown sharp rise) so at least things will ease off.

But you don't even look at any of the evidence... you're a covid flat earther - you simply take at face value and believe what mainstream media and politicians say.

Spike31- it cannot be bad for us. It was made by the experts

You're right it isn't bad for you and is produced by experts...luckily for us this vaccine has been safe for millions of people so to be honest a handful of deaths and severe reaction is terribly sad but are miminal compared to the overall benefit of this vaccine.....countries are only taking a precautionary step to suspend but will continue using AZ very soon... this I suspect is just a political measure pending further reassurance that AZ is safe.....sort of showing the public that the government is diligent and responsive to changing conditions surrounding this vacccine.

what mainstream media and politicians say.

The media are presenting a broad spectrum of views, however politicians (responsible ones, anyway) act on the advice of scientific advisors, even though that advice goves them more problems rather than fewer.

Sadly, no.... they often bully and pressure them and often scientists have their own loyalties that are not bound to the common good....

"Nearly a year after California Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered the nation's first statewide shutdown because of the coronavirus, masks remain mandated, indoor dining and other activities are significantly limited, and Disneyland remains closed. By contrast, Florida has no statewide restrictions. Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has prohibited municipalities from fining people who refuse to wear masks. And Disney World has been open since July. Despite their differing approaches, California and Florida have experienced almost identical outcomes in COVID-19 case rates."

"Connecticut and South Dakota are another example. Both rank among the 10 worst states for COVID-19 death rates. Yet Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, a Democrat, imposed numerous statewide restrictions over the past year after an early surge in deaths, while South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, a Republican, issued no mandates as virus deaths soared in the fall. "

The experts are divided and the evidence is inconclusive.

When the "experts" are divided, what they are "experts" on is not science. At best, it's speculations. At worst, "science" for hire.

Dr Fauci have inappropriate loyalties

There is more "science" in a coin flip than in Fauci. That's what he did about masks and virus jumping.

the-simple-science-behind-why-masks-work

OK. let's see what is inside that revealing website...Quoting:

"There is a plethora of scientific data and research to help solidify this recommendation," she added.

Studies show, however, that these people can still transmit the virus to people around them.

The data suggest that the use of face coverings can help limit the spread of the disease by these asymptomatic and presymptomatic individuals, said Han.

That's science? Reader's Digest would be too embarrassed to publish crap like that. "Plethora of scientific data..." No references. "Studies show..." No references.

"Data suggests..." "can help limit"...That's science, too?

Jon, don't do this again. Please.

FYI, science is numbers and the claims are testable. Anything else is Faucisms.
