Coronavirus in Poland

even 100% vaccination won't end them any time soon.

I have noticed quite a few people in the UK claiming that restrictions should remain in place after everyone is offered their 1st jab. Some have even claimed that the protest the other day will push back the June 21st target for ending all restrictions and this is even though almost half the country has had it. I sometimes wonder if they fully believe the jabs will make a difference.

Thankfully I can't see that happening, due to the progress likely to be made by then. Also, while health and protecting others will be strong motivation for many, for others simply getting back to normal will be the main reason. There would be a lot of hostility if that didn't materialise.

I really don't see the public accepting that. Everybody wants to get back to normal as soon as possible.

If there's troublesome mutations or localised outbreaks, there are measures that we can all take however the priority is going to be restoring normal guman contact and economic activity. In that order.

There would be a lot of hostility if that didn't materialise.

Right at the start, I predicted riots and this summer could well be a flashpoint. It wouldn't be a surprise if the current Police Bill is going through quickly for that reason.

In Poland there won't be riots, however summer restrictions would be nigh on impossible to police. Masks are about the limit of what the authorities can reasonably do.

Why won't there be riots in poland? If people can riot in Dresden which borders Poland and Czech then it will go off 10x more in Poland. Not everyone is as slavishly subservient to authority as you. I'd just have to dress up as a copper or say I work for the WHO and you would be kissing my boot.

You really don't know Poland very well at all, do you...

It's different from your country; it's one of the most conformist places anywhere.

I'd just have to dress up as a copper

I doubt you'd look very convincing, somehow...

There already was a riot during lockdown; the nationalist march. There will be more if lockdowns drag on. We don't have the migrant youth that germany has to loot the stores etc, but it will kick on if needed.

To a point. Generally very low key her though.

One rule should always be followed: never trust your rulers until you have no choice.

Tbh I think to be realistic the easing of lockdown will have to happen across Europe at a similar timeline than the UK. I guess in Poland its more likely to be mid/late April maybe early May when hopefully the warmer weather has helped bring down the third wave. Needs to be a real push over the summer months to get most adults vaccinated over the summer thou if normality is to continue beyond the autumn.

That makes sense, especially with borderless travel in the Schengen zone. I read today that Scotland are looking at a relaxation at the end of this month, going from "stay at home" to "stay local". If it works there, others may be encouraged.

mid/late April

Bozo Johnson was talking about mid-April. The sooner the better, and let's hope the vaccination programme there keeps up speed (and picks up speed here in Poland where it's shamefully slow).

I have no doubt that the fear peddlers are already trying to figure out how to continue with the mask bs.
Here is how they are going to pull it off.
Some will refuse to get vaccinated. To protect them, the sheep will be told to mask up or you are an evil human being. And the sheep will comply.

Thank God for Brexit! Can you imagine how much worse it were be if the UK were stuck in the EU's stinky fouled up mess of a vaccination program?

Those making bank from the lockdowns (Amazon, Microsoft, et al) are going to do everything they can to keep the fear going and people locked up...

EU'

Countries weren't as I recall forced to opt in...

Amazon, Microsoft

Sleazy American companies don't get to decide what happens in Europe. And in any case, those large businesses who need lockdowns to ease can use and afford lobbyists and PR too.

sure? my institution bought microsoft licences for employees (thousands of them) do you think microsoft is going to want them to stop anytime soon?

bonus: fear ramping up.... the variant that can't be detected ..... oooooooooooh sccaaaaaarrrrrryyyyyy

a negative test is now a symptom!

It should be noted that Feigl-Ding is a massive hypocrite who campaigned for school lockdowns in the US then took his kids to Austria where they wouldn't have to take zoom lessons...

Didn't they have them anyway?

going to want them

Do governments make hugely important decisions about public health and their entire economies on the basis of what foreign software vendors want?

Governments are sheep, too. There are only a few big enough and rich enough to research and develop things. The rest are me-too followers. Poland included.

These were separate accounts with separate passwords connected to the institution... it wasn't part of my existing account.

I have something similar, but only use it for work email. They aren't expensive and certainly don't determine public policy.

Bad time for Goverment to be splintering over EU coronamoney. looks like left will vote with PiS to get the cash.which is nice of them. Stupid to be infighting during a pandemic politico.eu/article/poland-government-coalition-crisis-united-right-eu-coronavirus-recovery-fund/

PolAmKrakow

@amiga500
LMAO "united right" clearly this article was written using information that is at least three months old. The "united right" are more divided than ever before. They cant even govern effectively. But of course the sniveling fools will vote for free money, Poland is really a welfare state when you look at things. What happens when those free euros run out?

amiga500
16 Mar 2021  #5241

I thought you said you wanted money to flow to small business and others to help rebuild. If united right splits and PiS has to rely on the left to get the EU grants and loans then naturally they will have some influence on how it is spent and lessen the cronyism you are worried about. One minute you are crying about ruined small businesses next minute you are raging against fools getting free money.

PolAmKrakow
16 Mar 2021  #5242

@amiga500
Money should flow to business. Not to individuals. The Polish welfare state of 13th and 14th retirement payments, 500+ and all the other BS communist benefits is nothing more than buying votes.

Not worried about cronyism, it is alive and well in PiS land. Not going away any time soon. Perhaps you want to comment on the President of Orlen and the mafia tactics he has used to his benefit?

The "pandemic" in Poland, and the rest of the world is now an "endemic". Clearly lockdowns did not work, the science and numbers of lockdown vs. non lockdown show virtually no difference in results. Of course no one on the left or right wants to talk about this. PiS sure doesnt want to talk about their utter lack of preparedness and ineffectiveness.

The EU money for business? Much of it is being stashed away in reserves now with the intention of buying more gold. Bolstering the zloty at the expense of small business. This, in theory is actually not a bad idea if the money is ever flowing from the EU. But we know that wont happen, and we know, PiS cant control themselves financially. Fiscal policy will go out the window if it faces an election challenge.

How are those pierogi ruskie? Do they serve them on Red Square?

Democracy is cetainly not perfect as both you and I know.
But I would support it ten times out of ten over your ideas of totalirianism.
Would you really prefer to live in Nazi Germany, The Soviet Union or China?

PolAmKrakow
16 Mar 2021  #5245

@Novichok
Since when is PiS a democracy? The country is on a knifes edge leaning toward dictatorship. Look how successful PiS has been since declaring "we defeated the virus" back in May and June. The utter riches they have helped produce. The utopia of social welfare programs. Poland is truly the land of milk and honey in the time of corona.

amiga500

Something a fascist would say. The age of Friedman Chicago school of ecnomiics is over. You are living in a new reality , confused and upset that the world does not adhere to your Regan era views. Conservative government all over the world are spending money on social welfare and its very popular. Also infrastructure spending that will prob not turn a profit. (high speed rail and hospitals etc) . Only a yank republican fanatic would think that child support (500+) and increased pensions is somehow wrong and stupid. Anyone who has a high school knowledge of economics realises that these programs increase consumer spending and help small business.. Anyone can see that massive stimulus is what is needed to prevent a economic depression and also keep up with china.

The EU money for business? Much of it is being stashed away in reserves now with the intention of buying more gold.

What are you babbling about? the eu stimulus money has not arrived yet.

Yes, I did get my first jab. I liked that pretty girl who jabbed me so I didn't even notice when she did it. And I didn't cry!
