Coronavirus in Poland

One issue is that they were so half-hearted early on.

To claim this, you have to know what the whole-hearted is. Or are you just saying it without thinking things through?
So, what should that whole-hearted way of handling the virus be? With a guarantee of no more lockdowns, of course.

The current official notification, for those here.

nation wide lockdown for three weeks!

And from reliable sources TOTAL LOCKDOWN after April 9 for 30 days with curfew and movement restrictions.

jon357 - One issue is that they were so half-hearted early on.

I quite agree.....it sort of reminds me of the Polish football team who having qualified to the next round appeared to simply give up and left it too late to make any meaningful improvement....(have to say this could apply to the England football team on occasions over the years)....

I quite agree....

Agree with a vague and meaningless bs?
What is full-hearted? Gulags with machine gun towers? Life in prison for mask violators?

And from reliable sources TOTAL LOCKDOWN after April 9 for 30 days with curfew and movement restrictions.

Is 30 days "science" or what some bureaucrat pulled out of his rear end? If it's science, why not 38? "Science" rarely produces outcomes ending with a zero.

In 1943, we had more freedom to move. I know because I was there.

Behave!
You were not really there.
You were just a baby....

@Cargo pants
I don't see a total lockdown. Not for 30 days. When they closed the airports and things last year, thats then business got damaged the most. People wont go for it this time around. Death rates still holding steady while more positive test results are coming from a quadrupling of tests being performed.

jon357

And, to muddy the waters further, what's going on here?

I'd not trust that:

"Now is the time to make ivermectin, along with hydroxychloroquine and other cheap, safe, and effective repurposed drugs, over the counter. Better yet, for a fraction of the price we are spending on isolation, lockdown, testing, tracing, and experimental gene therapy (aka the vaccine), why not mail everyone a kit of these cheap drugs, supplements, and therapeutics? Death rates still holding steady while more positive test results are coming from a quadrupling of tests being performed.

It is absolute journalistic malfeasance to report "case" numbers without also reporting how many tests were carried out....

Hospitalization has been more or less steadily increasing (if we assume that a very large majority of fatalities are in hospitals then about 700 admissions a day).

I would (given numbers from other places) things to plateau and decline soon enough....

jon357

It's as if all those scientists and specialist doctors had never even heard that common medicines like Ivermectin which are cats' worming tablets are a MIRACLE CURE that nobody even knew about.

And it took online 'journalists' and a teenage stoner from Australia to save the world!

You could choose to listen to medical experts, the WHO, the European health body, doctors, the NHS....

Or you could listen to the internet.

Since you did not to even read the article I will supply another quote
"A group of Italian, Russian, and Spanish researchers conducted a meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) of ivermectin use against COVID-19 and published their findings in the form of a letter in Signa Vitae, an Italian medical journal that specializes in intensive care and emergency medicine research. Out of a total of 1,323 patients from seven randomized controlled trials performed in six countries, the pooled results showed an 81% decline in mortality among hospitalized patients with COVID-19 relative to the placebo group."

and from another source (British Ivermectin Recommendation Development Group )
There are now FOUR meta-analyses showing that ivermectin may effectively treat and prevent covid-19.

HILL et al 2021 researchsquare.com/article/rs-148845/v1...
COBOS-CAMPOS et al 2021 archive.is/J4HQU
BRYANT et al 2021

The last studys meta-analyses of RCTs authors institutions are as follows

Population Health Sciences Institute, Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, UK
Evidence based Medicine Consultancy, Bath, UK.
Emergency Department, Princess Elizabeth Hospital, Guernsey, UK
Ulster Hospital, Dundonald, Belfast, Northern Ireland, Ulster

Also the Nobel prize winning inventor of Ivermectin is calling for it be used for covid now.

That might decrease your incessant boot-licking for a bit. .

For the sake of HUMANITY let us pray that all TRUTHERS heed your call. Oh God, think about the children. And the poor little cats.

Yes he's either trolling or blind faith in the system/authority. Pretty ironic for a far-leftist, but on the other hand its not suprising.

@amiga500
So absolutely crazy that the guy who invented the drug is calling for it to be used on COVID! By God who could imagine anyone wanting to cash in on their drug patents! J&J and the rest should be taking notes.

Oh wait a minute, the drug companies are already cashing in, so the little guy is trying to ride the coat tails. Never mind.

Lets get the Sjem together with JK and the boys today, spin the money wheel and see who we can pay off with a government hand out today. Coal companies? Maybe build another bridge to nowhere? Because buying Russian vaccine is beneath us and we can just give the money away.

Leftist critique is essentially lacking in the covid response... they've become absolute cheerleaders of traditional government power against citizens....

It's off patent. Hence the inertia by institutions and big pharma to embrace it.

Because buying Russian vaccine is beneath us

We are the odd country out of the V4. It's stupid.

Spiked Online? You mean Marxism Today, the journal of the Revolutionary Communist Party before Furedi changed its name and went online only?

By God who could imagine anyone wanting to cash in on their drug patents!

Think about the TRUTH and rescue the millions of children held in tunnels under pizza restaurants all over Poland.

Spiked Online? You mean Marxism Today,

Yes they were Trotskyists when they were young and stupid but they grew with the times. the new left does regards them as 'left wing' now. They hate them. they're populist definitely.

mafketis
18 Mar 2021  #5301

Marxism Today before they changed the name?

Yes. O'Neill has described himself as a Marxist anarchist...

Marx did have some insight (what modern social science theory doesn't depend on him?) his forecasting was crap and attempts to operationalize his models leads to misery.... but the historical analysis is pretty good).

But why are leftists (usually so concerned about 'bodies') so uninterested in analysing/critiquing government policy....

could it be....... XI?

You do know that even when a patent expires, there is a royalty paid to the owner of the formula right?

@jon357
Think about the absolute disaster that will come out of Polish schools. There will most definitely be a COVID generation based on the education systems. God help the people in power now when science and history judge them. This will go down as big a worldly bungle as Russia once believing in a non aggression pact.

mafketis

the absolute disaster that will come out of Polish schools.

Are American schools faring any better with hundreds of thousands of poor and/or minority students essentially disappearing and receiving no education for a year or more?

Remote education for the very young is institutionalized child abuse.... (teens and young adults is just ineffective crap).

amiga500

You do know that even when a patent expires, there is a royalty paid to the owner of the formula right?

Only in very rare cases and this does not apply to invermectin and its patent holder Merk. Hence why they are against its use and have put out lies saying there have been no studies. Its widely accepted that post patent royalties is not legally sanctioned with some creative ie dubious wiggle room.. But only if there a pre-existing licence then the licencee may or may not have to pay a royalty. Does not apply in this case as generic producers have no such obligation.

"The hard and fast rule in patent licensing is that demanding patent royalties for a patent that has expired is void against public policy. That was the rule established a half a century ago in Brulotte v. Thys Co. And that is still the rule after the decision in Kimble v. Marvel Entertainment handed down from the Supreme Court on June 22, 2015. "

Yes. This is clear and as far as I can tell, psychologists have barely even started to assess the effects. I know how much the Miners' Strike affected my peers when we were at school in mining communities, being trapped in a situation you can't escape. This is far worse.

God help the people in power now when science and history judge them.

There will be plenty of talk (and in many countries official inquiries) afterwards, and the odd combination of half-assed measures, possible over-reactions and above all the lack of actual state support to society and the economy when it needs this most will be judged harshly.

TOTAL LOCKDOWN after April 9 for 30 days with curfew and movement restrictions.

Can't see it tbh, that would be stricter than when there was no vaccine rollout. I heard the wave is expected to peak near the end of the month and then should gradually decline so perhaps another week or 2 extension but not into May.

jon357
18 Mar 2021  #5307

Can't see it tbh

The same. I've heard some of the same rumours however what you say about the wave peaking is the key. Unless there's a sudden massive surge, there are unlikely to be any tighter restrictions.

erhaps another week or 2 extension but not into May.

Exactly. They're watching the economy deteriorate and although their measures to mitigate it are poor, they will at least try in their own ineffectual way to limit the damage they're doing.

I bet that the ruling cliques feel like gods when that happens. It must be such an amazing experience to be able to control that virus.

Just like I feel when I say, Sun! Rise!

This is from the US but the problem is universal and applicable to Poland, too. Boot-lickers, enjoy this story:

theguardian.com/us-news/2021/mar/17/us-remote-school-pandemic-police-fine

In one suburban Pennsylvania town, a mother blames her teenage son's truancy on debilitating depression that appeared at the beginning of the pandemic. Before the outbreak, he used to enjoy computer programming and solving the Rubik's Cube. Now, he languishes in his bedroom with the lights turned off - and has missed about a year of the virtual school.

On the other hand, her son's suffering is not in vain. In the same town, a 95-year-old woman with six underlying conditions lived three months longer because of the lockdown.

The latest news from Poland.

"On the day of the announcement, the country noted 25,052 new infections, a 44 percent jump on the same day last week"

A decent economic stimulus package would be good, however the incompetent PiSuarzy are as ever reactive rather than proactive. And they need the falling tax revenue for their existing schemes. What would TVPiS do without all those billions...
