Coronavirus in Poland

@mafketis
It means "we really pooped the bed with the first lockdown. The second lockdown we only pooped the bed a little, and in the third lockdown we just dont have any bladder control." Nothing to see here everything is being handled by experts who know what to do even though comparisons between lockdown and non lockdown locations sho w less than a 3 percent variant in results. But hey, lets all just poop the bed together while wearing masks and it wont smell so bad.

Close but my interpretation is a bit different....
hint: empty storefronts....

You know because after "beating the virus" we sure didnt have to worry about the "second wave" all experts knew and said was coming.
I'd bet money that when a mutation occurs here, they'll take formal measures to try and stop it being called The Polish Mutation.
empty storefronts....
I was out in Śródmieście yesterday evening ( on the way to get a pre-flight covid test) and noticed that some of my favourite restaurants etc look like they've closed for good. No takeaway only, just closed shutters and in a couple of cases, the signage removed.
lockdown and non lockdown
One thing I did notice was the number of people out and about on the streets. It didn't seem much different to normal. Everyone had masks on (though often not covering the nose) and there wasn't much physical distancing. If the experts are right (and they usually are), this is just prolonging it and undermining all the other partially ineffective restrictions.
Unless the current measures reduce the stats (which so far they aren't) after 9 April, Poland will be under pressure to have a full lockdown like Spain/Italy did, permission slips for going out, offices closed etc, trains cancelled and travel restrictions at the border.. Horrible, destructive to the economy, and probably avoidable, especially during a period when most other places are coming out of lockdown.

Martial Law... in other words. That would ironic... I don't see people respecting that.
Again, those who have looked into the question have not found that lockdowns make any statistically significant degree of difference to outcomes....
The question is why then are so many government just itching to shut things down?
Maybe it's because politicians are usually fairly dull and unimaginative and not good at coming up with effective policy (so they fall back on ineffective measures).
Maybe.... just maybe.... it's because they want to shut things down....

Martial Law... in other words.
In all but name. They won't declare a state of emergency though (unless they truly have no other option and even then they'll do anything not to) because they'd have to compensate businesses.

It's strict in the UK and the stats (especially the death rate and hospitalisations) are falling now. They've just closed the Nightingale Hospital close to where I'll be because they no longer need it.
Maybe.... just maybe.... it's because they want to shut things down....
But why?

Start with...
Those benefiting from the current situation
bbc.com/news/world-55793575
those who advocated for something like the current situatio
weforum.org/agenda/2016/09/is-online-learning-the-future-of-education/
those who want to exploit the current situation.

So that's a "no" then...
Good that Greta has spoken on the issue though. We need more voices like hers.

remote workers or those who dont play with others well or are antithesis to the office culture like myself also benefit because we dont have to be around people. I can work while watching netflix or get my stuff done wuick and no one is gonna check up on me or monitor me if im still at the office just waiting for the clock to tick by. nor do I have to dal with annoying normies. thats the only good thing about this whole thing is its changing the work culture and i can acruslly runction now unlike before where it was difficult for me to even get up or go to some job site without a car even.

Moderna vaccine just came out today saying that the Covid vaccines will be required annually just like the 40% effective flu shots are now.
Surprise !
Of course they will have to add more DNA altering substances to cover the mutations year after year.
Bill Gates and the New World Order on a roll now.
We need more voices like hers.
Like Trump said, "Greta ought to take one of her friends and go to a movie like kids her age do."

Poland will be under pressure to have a full lockdown like Spain/Italy did
Well April is when the weather starts to improve so the police will have a tough job in enforcing it. It's strange how the definition of lockdown is so varied, I was under the impression Poland was already under a full lockdown. To a lot of people it's felt like a full lockdown ever since the cafes and bars closed.

It's a half-arsed one right now. Churches open, streets busy, offices functioning. The rumour (and I stress that it's only a rumour) is that after 9 April (or more likely 10 April for a certain reason) it'll be more like Spain or Italy during the first lockdown; permission slips to go outside, empty streets, offices closed, trains/flights cancelled etc. I hope not, however it obviously depends on what happens now with the stats and whether or not Poland is put on other countries' red lists..

What can happen if you refuse to go home and they go beyond their bounds like when the lockdown started a year ago I remember I went to the town square in old town warsaw and not even the polcie but the straz started going beyond their bounds and harassed me for sitting down and reafing a mazgazine and told me to go hoe. What if I refused or will now if something similar happens? Is it even legal for them to do this? They also wouldnt chase some old guy but just me and when i told them why are they only telling me to leave they said he was old and will tell him later. I looked i up and apparently if you had amask I wasnt doing anything wrong or illegal?

And the zloty today is at 3.93 per USD. Excellent, soon over 4 like last year.
@jon357
Poland cant go into the full lockdown and marshal law scenario, they would have to declare state of emergency and that means paying everyone. It wont happen. They will struggle through a few more weeks until the weather gets them the help they need.
But lets really look at why we have this lockdown. Its not because of the virus. It is because PiS didn't prepare for its return. They didn't stock hospitals. They didn't prepare correctly. Because they had to focus on the elections and winning in summer when numbers were lowest. Giving billions to their supporters and their "fake news" generating system.
Does anyone really think these two weeks of tougher restrictions will change any plans that families had for the holidays? I spent the night in a hotel on Tuesday without a problem, and had dinner and drinks in the hotel bar and rest while there.

I vividly remember those depressing days in 1944 except that we knew the end was near. Not so with the covid terrorists.

That's my feeling too. It will just end up with other countries redlisting Poland.

And this.
And now we're in a mess here. PiS know they're not going to get another term; they're leaving all the problems of a devastated economy to whoever comes next.

Its weird how mma clubs remain open but pools and gyms and everything else doesnt. is it because they fall under the umbrealla of having some professional athletes there so the gyms remain open and everyone can train?

What if whoever comes next is just as bad. Will Poland have to be liberated as it was in 1945?
Isn't "democracy" fun? A toxic blend of "civil rights", impotence, incompetence, and covid deaths - with the "democratic" WE leading the global funeral procession.
In the meantime, the "oppressive" China is humming like a happy bird...

There are a lot of inconsistencies. Not just about type of venue, but also regional. The current rules are observed in some places and not in others, doubtless leading to the current spike in cases, hospital admissions and deaths.
it because they fall under the umbrella of having some professional athletes there
Possibly. The new rules out this week say that there can't be amateur sport, only professional.

Poland liberated again? I don't think so, JK and the boys will burn it down before that happens.
@jon357
PiS is being destroyed from within its own ranks. Orlen corruption is fun to watch every night on the news. Cant wait till they find more of the graft in other areas and who's cousins got millions for doing nothing.
The minor parties of the ruling group are setting things up for an early election. You can see it coming. A power grab is on the way and I think PiS days are numbered more than ever now. Assuming two more weeks of hard lockdown, followed by another 3 weeks of lowered restrictions back to where things are now and maybe some re-opening, the devastation will be too much for a fast recovery.
Just walked to the store, and two more places packing up their business into trucks and rental signs hung in the windows.

that there can't be amateur sport, only professional.
Because if you get paid by playing with balls, the virus just moves on.
The minor parties of the ruling group are setting things up for an early election.
That is close to being criminal - managing a health crisis for political gain. My "covid terrorists" looks truer and truer...

If/when it all comes out, it will be entertaining. Especially some of the stuff on a regional/local level.
ssuming two more weeks of hard lockdown, followed by another 3 weeks of lowered restrictions back to where things are now and maybe some re-opening
I hope you're right, and the rumours I've been hearing about a stricter lockdown aren't true. As people have said here already, it would be hard to police and people would just get round it.
Just walked to the store, and two more places packing up their business into trucks and rental signs hung in the windows.
As I said before, I was shocked last night in Warsaw. So many places gone for good and the premises vacant.

They're itching for it, and the issues around covid over the next three months will be decisive.
Meanwhile, they're way behind on the vaccination programme and an inch away from being redlisted by half of Europe and elsewhere.

Quoting from dailymail.com:
Most Britons think Brexit WAS the right thing to do after EU vaccine shambles and a fifth think it has enabled UK to fight Covid more effectively
Smart Brits. They knew that the surest way to die is to allow committees to decide your fate.
