meanwhile the official number of 'active cases' remains 153, 047.... which makes less than zero sense.... how on earth is that number calculated?

Funny paradox - most Poles who have gotten vaccinated so far are opponents and critics of the ruling party. Those who support PiS reject vaccination. PiS has a problem. :):)

The Polish response has been / is kind of schizophrenic. While the UK has consistently been imposing austerity and resisted any and all efforts to get the former economy back on track, Poland has tried to some extent to keep things going and prepare the population for austerity at the same time....

So, just as positive test results (not necessarily 'cases' in any real meaning) have been flatlining they go out of their way to announced the fourth wave in august (anything to kill the tourism sector).

Anyone who thinks that any government is still primarily acting on health information is hopelessly naive or dumb. Those who support government policies despite knowing what they're about is actively evil.....

Since it is 100% more contagious, Poland is worried about the spread amongst children.
Kids are contagious anyways which makes this a nightmare.

One positive perhaps is that people who've been vaccinated generally have far milder symptoms. It's still risky for older people though; people here are saying that an 80 year old who's had both doses has more or less the same level of immunity as an unvaccinated 50 year old.

Everything is risky for older people. Including walking down the stairs and across the street. We should ban stairs and streets.

That's a big demographic, as are the elderly.

Where I am now, things are getting back to normal (except for table service in pubs, face masks, some distancing and some venues closed) and if Johnson is to be believed (and he often isn't) everything will be back to normal after 19 July.

It's strange how many people seem to think that lockdown will return in Poland after the summer. Have to say that I sometimes feel like rolling my eyes when I hear that. If anything a line in the sand will have to be drawn with the restrictions that are still in place sooner or later. Admittedly I would understand why they remain in place for a little longer but the 40% who have had a vaccine are bound to include most or not all of the vulnerable groups. I can see why a return to lockdown might be used as a scare tactic to get more people vaccinated but to actually do it would be wrong.

If you are required to wear a mask and wear glasses, you may be entitled to condensation.

A ruling mob that can force the country to lockdown does not need to resort to scare tactics. All they have to do is make vaccinations mandatory, set a deadline, and make normal life impossible for the rebels.
