Coronavirus in Poland

nothing is pointing to a bad situation in Poland.

Dolno, it is nice to live in your own world, in total oblivion, as a mental solitary island etc etc. However, you should listen to the voice of reason. If not mine coz you are personally biased, you can listen to others at least.

Thank you PiS! 3x thank you!

What is the point of the lockdown if they are not using it to test and track cases and to get more equipment ? They should be testing 20-30k per day.

It is clear that the most senior people in the govt are focused on the election and not on how to deal with the epidemic and how to plot an exit from lockdown.

From my point of view if they haven't started mass testing and cancelled the election by Easter then I will ignore the lockdown and get on with my life (or death). No sense in wasting my time indoors if they are not using the time.

What is the point of the lockdown

Countries that introduced a lockdown early: got or getting epidemics under control.

Countries that didn't: running out of crematorium capacity.

Perhaps you have other criteria for success but that's good enough for me at this point.

But if it's under control then we can go out - but in fact they are tightening it with an indefinite time frame and indefinite cost. They are not testing so everyone agrees that we don't know the true scope

As I said - I can do a few more weeks of that on the understanding that the govt makes use of the time. As it is the govt is talking about using the police and army to count votes.

your own world, in total oblivion

It's no use re-posting comments from the other top forum idiot to try and prove nothing. if you have not noticed politicians all over Europe are being blamed for not handling the crisis correctly and testing is top of the list.

Please don't abuse me by posting quotes aimed at me written by delph who like you is another wast of space with no credibility on this forum.

I thought that, being both British, you would listen to the voice of reason from your compatriot.
But you still refuse to. Too bad. Why are you so narrow-minded????

There is actually no better time to ensure everyone votes now because it can be done by mail.

It's not so simple. Local governments are responsible for organising electoral commissions, and many cities are now point blank refusing to do it due to the hazards involved. There are also serious questions over international observers being able to participate, and it's very clear that this wouldn't be a free or fair election if the votes are to be counted by the government rather than under the supervision of the National Electoral Commission.

From a technical point of view, as of today, there are no changes in electoral regulations. If the Sejm passes postal voting regulations on Friday, then the Senate has 30 days to consider them - which means that they can be held there until the 3rd May. They would then need to go back to the Sejm on 4th May, which even if Duda signs immediately, they'd have only 4 working days to produce and distribute ~30m votes.

More importantly, one of the coalition parties in the government has made it publicly clear now that they want a delay.

There are no conditions for holding a vote in these circumstances. If they push ahead with this, it will be a coup d'etat and Polish democracy is finished.

People like dolno will cheer though, because he picked up Stalinism with his mother's milk.

Over 1000 die in a single day here in the U.S. from the virus.
I can only imagine how many by the end of next week.

But if it's under control then we can go out

Once there is no new infections, for couple of days., then it is under control and we can go out. But the borders should stay shut, until there is a cure or vaccine.

I get what you're saying, but honest question of the day here: If your family and loved ones are directly threatened by you 'getting on with your life', would you still do it? Do you have balls big enough to possibly be blamed as the infection vector for your (extended) family that may lead to casualties?

This isn't the kind of 'internet tough guy'-stuff we've had to deal with in the past, this is serious business.

(I won't ever blame you if you don't answer... it's that bad. Consider this rhetorical.)

What is the point of the lockdown

To slow the spreading of the virus so the healthcare system is not overloaded all at once.
85% of the people that get this have minimum sickness and are back to normal within three to seven days by just staying at home.
Some show no signs of having it at all which are the ones innocently spreading it.
Since it take 4 to 10 days to show symptoms and two weeks to totally get rid of it, then the theory is that if everyone self quarantines for 30 days that it would eliminate the virus to a point the healthcare system could deal with it.

That's my understanding anyways.

But there will never be zero infections - not for months.

I was flying, driving and working happily when there were a handful of infections. Of course I would not be happy to kill my family. On the other hand I have to put some food on the table and without people working then there will be no money for hospitals or doctors.

The route to stamping it out is via testing but the govt has made almost no progress on that - similar sized Spain has tested 8x as many people as Poland.

Johnny we are 22 days into the 30 days. So what is the route out of this ?

@kondzior

The borders will not stay shut. Poland depends on tourism and international commerce. Even PiS understands this. It is probably the reason they closed the borders so quickly, so a return to some normalcy will happen more quickly here.

We have been dealing with this for about 4 weeks now since the first case. Three weeks since first measures were taken. No one is loosing control. No mass deaths.

Warsaw, Krakow and Wroclaw could have easily replicated NYC, Detroit and Boston. But they are not. Lets just look at those facts. People in these cities would be posting everywhere if mass deaths and illness were taking place. Forget what the government or press reports. People on the ground would be spreading news more quickly than anyone else can.

Is the election a problem? Sure. Will PiS do anything to hold on to power? Sure. Does and rational thinking human being think or believe for one second that the military will follow an illegal government? Does anyone think or believe for one second that if Trump called Duda and told him to stop the BS or USA will pull Visa's for Poland and all military support that Duda wouldn't listen? Poland has too much to lose and a whole lot to gain by coming out of this in good shape.

Time to stop the paranoia and just look at facts.

Yes I agree that they will eventually see sense - but wouldn't it be easier to cancel it now without any further discussion and concentrate the energies and resources on testing and building the capacity to treat patients ?

It's either in emergency or it's not. And if it's an emergency that means using the full weight of the state to deal with it

Lockdowns lead to the same economic outcome as letting it spread free, look at the Italy. So why would anyone not quarantine the entire country? Wishful thinking:

"It'll ruin the economy."
"15 cases, soon to be zero."
"Don't panic, it'll just disappear."
"Our people are so sensible and law-abiding we don't need to."
"Herrrd immunity"
"There's nothing we can do."
"It's just the flu bro, barely 1.8% will need hospitalisation and 0.01% will die."

And so on and so forth. Take your pick.

Not if the lockdown was indefinite

I fully support a quick tight lockdown to buy time. What i am saying is that if they don't use the time wisely then people will eventually drift out of lockdown, especially kids and younger people.

Yes you might die but for all of us it is a question of when not if, and there are plenty of other ways to die.

the military will follow an illegal government?

Well, they will if the government has already replaced all the senior officers with their own choices, which is exactly what PIS have done. However, it won't come to that at this stage - but all the mechanisms are being put in place which can be used by a nut-job when he feels the time is right.

Once there is no new infections, for couple of days. then it is under control and we can go out.

I don't think a couple of days would be considered enough. It's more like a couple of weeks and then a gradudal lifting of restrictions which will be brought back again lickety split if necessary.

@kondzior

Sure there are arguments to keep the borders closed. It simply wont happen. You will see temperature checks or everyone coming in and out for a few months, then nothing. The world will accept a certain level of collateral loss of life. Not nice to say, but they will.

Lock downs are temporary fixes to gain control of stressful environments. They are not cures. The facts are simple. We are all likely to get this eventually. That much is pretty sure. So, we stave off how long it takes until a vaccine is developed.

Until then the world will not stop and neither will Poland. Lets be honest with PiS too. They know all of their friends are loosing tons of money and the pressure from them will mount soon too. Their own ability to profit off of this in the future depends on successful implementation of these precautionary measures. PiS are a lot of things, but they are too greedy, like all politicians, to be too stupid.

And so on and so forth. Take your pick.

Words of a genius to keep everyone calm as possible.

resources on testing

If everyone would self quarantine there would be no need to test.
Testing should be saved for healthcare workers dealing with the virus every day, the police and military responders and anyone being put into a hospital for any reason.

Besides that, stay home and deal with it.
In three to seven days you will be over it with or without testing and have build up your immunity to it for a year or so.

And you can bet that it will come back full tilt boogie come this fall.

cms neuf
2 Apr 2020  #1191

But if they track and test they can lift quarantine quicker and with less damage

johnny reb
2 Apr 2020  #1192

I don't know how.
If you self quarantine you will know if you have it within 14 days.
If you do it will take 85% of the people another 14 days to be completely over it with the other 15% going to the hospital to be put on a ventilator to heal or die.

So in essence if everyone self quarantined for 30 days we could cut the odds down to be manageable for the healthcare system and lift the quarantine.

I've spotted earlier that the police and territorial defences will be out in force from today until Sunday to fight people gathering in public and to prevent unnecessary travel. I really, really hope people use common sense.

The bad news is that next week is due to have beautiful weather.
