Coronavirus in Poland

Atch
11 Aug 2020  #2911

I generally assume that most cases aren't confirmed

They are confirmed. I don't know how they go about it in Poland but in Ireland, the figures released of new cases are those that have been confirmed by lab test. They might not be showing symptoms at all. They usually get tested because they have been a close contact of a confirmed case. I'm sure it's similar in Poland. Tracing is vital if you want to slow the spread.

hospitalized cases I

Though we've had 879 confirmed cases in fourteen days in Ireland, we only have 12 confirmed cases in hospital.

the virus is already weaker than it was in April

That would be great wouldn't it, as you say let's hope for the best.

I've seen speculation (no hard proof but possible evidence) that the virus is already weaker than it was in April

Where did you see these speculations. (Sources ?)

Russia came out today with the first vaccine in the world.
Putin said his daughter had already been booted up with it as a test guinea pig.
He hasn't got it yet if you can imagine that.

Where did you see these speculations. (Sources ?)

There were reports from Italy which mainstream sources were very quick to try to discount but also there's no place with really large fatalities now... Alex Berenson's twitter feed points out that fatality (and in some cases even hospitalizations) have flattened out in the sunbelt....

Actually daily numbers for Poland today

Fatalities (daily total) 12, age range 56-93, average age 71

Hospitalizations (running total) up 56 to 1985... creeping closer to 2000 again?

Respirators in use, up 3 to 74

Cured (daily total) 273 just a tad less than half the number of newly found cases

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 22 times more cured cases than fatalities.

Again fewer tests in the last few days which might explain the lower positive test numbers...

I don't know how they go about it in Poland

Here there seems to be conflicting information about the number of cases.

Actual daily numbers for Poland today

Fatalities (daily total) 9, age range 61-86-93, average age 75

Hospitalizations (running total) up 36 to 2021... so we've officially passed my (completely non-scientific) benchmark will two of the next four days stay above that level?

Respirators in use, up 2 to 76

Cured (daily total) 461 just a third less than the number of newly found cases

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 51 times more cured cases than fatalities.

Just 24,000 tests done which is down from the 30,000 or so when the daily numbers were higher, again, the number of new cases is a function of how much testing is being done. Humans cannot control the course of a respiratory virus through lock downs or social distancing....

Actual daily numbers for Poland today

Fatalities (daily total) 14, age range 48-96, average age 75

Hospitalizations (running total) up 38 to 2059...

Respirators in use, up 6 to 82, the highest since I began tracking this number? I think so...

Cured (daily total) 350 well less than half the number of newly found cases

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 25 times more cured cases than fatalities.

Actual daily numbers for Poland today

Fatalities (daily total) 15, age range 64-90, average age 76

Hospitalizations (running total) down 19 to 2040...

Respirators in use, down 3 to 79

Cured (daily total) 401 a bit less than half the number of newly found cases

Ratio of cured to fatalities (daily) there were 26 times more cured cases than fatalities.

Daily average fatalities for the last 7 days.... 10.1 (exactly the same as the previous week).

So basically covid is a non-issue in Poland...

Meanwhile, the dumbasses in the USA a country with literally 50x the GDP account for something like 25% of the world cases with no end in sight. When Illinois was shut down for 2 1/2 months our daily cases hovered at like 1,200, 1,500, 1,700 etc. Now that we've been reopened 2 1/2 months we have the same amount - slightly less but not much of a difference

@Dirk diggler
The problem was and still is that no one ever really shut down completely like was done in Europe. The lockdown wasnt hard and people still traveled and didnt wear masks or social distance. Nothing will change until people just stop being stupid.

Dirk diggler
15 Aug 2020  #2923

At first I thought it was because the blacks and the latinos, who account for the majority of cases at least in our area, since they live in crowded conditions and take public transport more than whites and asians. In Europe though it's similar with some cities/countries being more densly populated than USA.

Also, we did have a shut down - major shut down with basically EVERYTHING except food (drive through only), gas station, and a few truly essential businesses (marijuana dispensaries and liquor stores are considered essential businesses... churches, department stores, etc.). It didn't make a meaningful difference. New cases hovered around 1.5k each day and they're still around that number. Even though we were closed for 2.5 months and that was like 5 months ago it still made no meaningful difference. Everyone still wears masks - you have to when you enter any business. It doesn't matter whether it's a gas station, a Gucci outlet, or whatever. The larger businesses like casinos will scan your body as you walk through.

@Dirk diggler
I was in Detroit and a few other Michigan Cities only a few weeks ago. No one social distancing, less than 25% wearing masks. Everyone I speak to in the States telling stories how parties were taking place during lockdown, and how most people were not following the rules. Georgia didnt make it a month, and many other States didnt lock down until it was too late and then opened up too early, Florida and Texas are examples. Now, children in places that are opening schools too soon are getting sick. Lets call a spade a spade, the US pooped the bed when they had a chance to show the world why it is so great. Congress cant do anything right and they cant get money to people who need it but their "break" is more important. The USA in my opinion is looking like a failed experiment and it has truly shown how weak the country really is.

Are you back in Poland and if you are did you have to quarantine ?I am going there next month.I saw on the Polish site that says that the flights coming from the EU are exempt,as I will be changing flights at Frankfurt or should I bring the Covid test results issued before 72 hours of the arrival?

Germany. Chinese flu cases vs common flu cases

I know that no amount of data will convince coronacult followers but I only want to reach intelligent and logical thinking individuals.

Aren't the graphs measuring different things? You're measuring the numbers of confirmed/known cases of the flu (when no special measures are taken) vs this virus where lots of special measures have been taken...

Also lots of people get the flu and never see a doctor even though they have pretty bad symptoms (I remember when I had a very nasty flu and never got near a doctor cause I had no health insurance).

I can agree that it's folly to think that the virus can be contained through lock downs and agree on the need to get economies and institutional life back up to speed but this wasn't just the flu in lots of ways (first and foremost since it was born in China where nothing the government says can be trusted nowhere else in the world had any idea of what to expect and so caution was called for... now? not so much).

Yes. Back in Krakow. No quarantine. Poland just eliminated all direct flights from USA last Thursday. I had no problem in Amsterdam and a client had no problem in Frankfurt last week.

a notable increase in corona-cases during thr last day on Poland?

Partly that's due to increased testing. The more important (IMO) metric of hospitalizations has also increased from around 1700 to just over 2000 but seems to be stalling out now...

Spike31
16 Aug 2020  #2933

Partly that's due to increased testing

Not partly but completely. Test more people and you'll get more positive results from those who have no symptoms and no side effects but have virus antibodies in their system. They are called "asymptomatic coronavirus carriers".

In Soviet Russia they had "asymptomatic schizophrenia" which was a pseudoscientific tool of repression used to lock up anti-communist political prisoners in psychiatric hospitals. It's just too funny how the history repeats itself as a grotesque...

Good news everyone. Minister Lukasz Szumowski, a face of corona-hysteria in Poland was dismissed ("has resigned") from his post earlier today, just a few days after he introduced sharper restrictions.

This clearly marks a change of course when it comes to Chinese flu measures.

Quite a rational decision although it reminds of rat`s behaviour - he has abandoned the ship just before the disaster: in autumn, when millions of common cold and flue patients are treated as potential covid bearers, the med care system will be totally clogged. He wants to avoid being mixed up in it.

How do you know he was dismissed??? TTBofMK, KaczyƄski was intent on defending him like communism in 1980s.

Spike31
18 Aug 2020  #2940

Quite a rational decision

Rational decision, but not in a sense you described it.

A real disaster wasn't a "deadly corona pandemic" and its mythical second wave of chinse flu but the way this common infection was handled and the official propaganda which stood behind it.
