Paying for time and paying for skills are two completely different things

And both are sold.

Your idea that there is no business without workers does not hold water

It's not "my idea". We aren't talking about one man bands here.

Nobody suggests all salaries should be the same.

Perhaps you're getting a little tied up in k pts.

Life was never intended to be fair, and it never should be.

Why shouldn't it be?

Plumbers and electricians get paid for their skill

I admire your patience...in this case with an assfucker...I am out of it...

I am not going to ask you how it feels talking to the third graders...I already know.

I like a bet myself JR but when I go into STS or another Polish bookies the only women I see are the cleaners. The other punters are typically young men in hoodies and an increasing number of chinese.

In my time in Britain I saw plenty of women at racetracks, but never in a betting shop.

@jon357
Why shouldnt it be? Because it goes against the laws of nature. Some animals are stronger than others, some are smarter, some have the ability to hide or any other attribute that god gave them to be successful. We are after all animals, whether we are intelligent by design or by evolution it doesnt matter.

We are after all animals,

I have been admitting to it for decades..... hahahaha

Some animals are stronger than others, some are smarter

That sounds like 'survival of the fittest' something our species evolved beyond. Humans (decent ones anyway) are altruistic rather than selfish and live in joined up communities where might is definitely not 'right'.

Surely you approve of altruism?

Yet more attempts to steal the election. Of course it's the MAGAts who are doing the stealing.
A former Republican candidate running for an Indiana seat in the U.S. House of Representatives has been arrested and charged with stealing several election ballots during a recent voting machine test.

Team Trump are as likely to not cheat as Jimmy Poorhouse is to say who he claims I am in his once precious photo. Hoot!

I see plenty of women playing Bingo in the church rec room but never in a back room of a bar playing poker.

That sick parade of RINOs voting for Kamala proves beyond any doubt that the US is run by Uniparty aka Demoplicans and that elections are just a show for the gullible.

Trump didn't read the script so you tried to kill him twice...

The last of these mother fvckers...Quoting:

Arnold Schwarzenegger makes rare presidential endorsement as ex-Republican governor speaks out on election

Hey, azhole, drop that NAZI-in-America accent...We already got it...You are manly...

Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz and Emily Ratajkowski stun at 2024 WSJ Magazine Innovators Awards

I wonder what these three have invented...

Also...Why the reporters only post their pictures and never quote what they said...Too fvcking stupid to come up with a line without a crew of two dozen?

Look here, I have tits... is the best so far...

Soviet Politburo in 1937 was more diverse than Hollywood and TV here today.

PolAmKrakow
31 Oct 2024  #72

Surely you approve of altruism?

No. I do not believe that unchecked altruism is a good thing. If someone doesnt want to lift himself up, thats on them, not on me to make it happen or to feel bad about their choice. If someone doesnt want to work hard for his success or the success and benefit of those they care for or are responsible for, it is not my responsibility to take care of them. Survival of the fittest is exactly what the world is and always will be. Your idea of an altruistic society doesnt exist, and will never exist. Hope and pray all you want, but humans do not work that way.

@Novichok
When the politicians on the take from the profitable military complex are all aligned on one side, its pretty clear whats happening. The biggest "hawks" in history are all behind Kumala, and these are some of the people who once campaigned on policy and issues. These are the same people who have controlled the White House for 28 of the last 32 years who did not solve any of the problems that exist today.

jon357

unchecked

Who said "unchecked"?

Survival of the fittest is exactly what the world is and always will be.

It isn't hough, is it...

The world has progresed somewhat since the pre-modern era

but humans do not work that way.

We do, and since your attitude to life has led to bitter failure and long incarceration l'm surprised you've not learnt that such antisocial attitudes are regarded dimly in developed societies.

We do

No, we don't. And that's the reason that idea of socialism has always failed, Jon! Humans just don't work that way!

I believe it's a matter of choice....it works (mostly) when the first generation decides for itself to live that way....it gets problematic which the second generation who gets introducted and trained to live that way, but never really had a choice....the first dissidents grow up, the rulers need to tighten the reigns....that bears only more resistance....and all ends with the third generation, when the numbers of no-sayers just get to big. The first generation really only has to build a dictatorship with gulags and co. to keep the thing going...it gets harder when the whole system stops working and just can't fulflill the promises....when people direct their ears and eyes elsewhere, where people live differently....then it's only a matter of time!

That's the circle it has run every time....and with always the same reasons....humans are not made for living like that in such a system, as promising it may sound to some ears!

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #75

No, we don't.

We do, and it works well in its British and Scandinavian iterations.

I believe it's a matter of choice

An illusion.

The first generation really only has to build a dictatorship with gulags and co

They really don't...

How can you ignore all the decades of failed socialist countries? I lived through one, remember?

And actual Venezuela...Cuba....they all start out the same....happy people, sometimes a revolution or a coup or even an election...but they end up always the same...always only a matter of time!

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #77

socialist countries? I lived through

You lived in an authoritarian Communist country.

I'm surprised that with all the political education there, you don't know the difference.

And the state where you live now is a mix of Socialism and capitalism. When you get weekends off, a safe workplace, a good salary and a decent pension, thank Socialists.

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #78

You lived in an authoritarian Communist country.

As I said, it didn't start out that way, it had to become authoritarian, they even had to wall their people in, that dictatorship was a consequence of the system....and it was always socialist, communism was the goal for the far future!

thank Socialists.

Agreed! Germany found for a time a seemingly golden middle ground...."Ordo Liberalism".

But as we see now it works only with a well run, well functioning, successful economy....when that starts to fail the system-fightings start anew.

My opinion is we don't need to repeat the failures of our ancestors when we already know their bad, sad endings!

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #79

"Germany" = West Germany (that is hopefully clear:)

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #80

that is hopefully clear

It's very obvious; and it wasn't the capitalists who graciously allowed you the days off, the health care, the welfare system., Socialists fought for that across Europe for generations.

As I said, it didn't start out that way, it had to become authoritarian,

It was literally started by Soviet Communists.

it works only with a well run, well functioning, successful economy...

Of course; and not one where the people's wealth is sucked out of the system and left to 'trickle down'. Try running a country as libertarian capitalists want; read food labels (not that libertarians believe in them) in America; the cheapest crap for a 'market'. Try running water supplies as they did in Flint, Michigan rather than under national oversight.

the failures of our ancestors

Capitalism and selfishness?

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #81

Socialists fought for that across Europe for generations.

And they should keep doing that, but as opposition!

They are really helpful as watcher of the rich and mighty, as guardians of the poor, if you will....but they truly suck in power, as ruler...a from above planned system economy has NEVER worked and did end always in blood and tears!

Can we agree on that?

Capitalism and selfishness?

Well....now that has always worked, wonder why?

Why do capitalist countries never need to introduct their people from the kindergarten onwards? Can be fully democratic...even allow socialist movements and parties?

A socialist country has to work hard to "educate" the people....something a capitalist country doesn't need to....and still, if given the choice most people would flee the socialist country for a chance of a life in a capitalist country!

What to think of that?

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #82

, but as opposition!

Why opposition? It works well for us in government.

They are really helpful as watcher of the rich and mighty, as guardians of the poor, if you will.

That's society's role

.but they truly suck in power,

Not for us; and don't assume central and eastern European 'planned economies' define Socialism.

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #83

It works well for us in government.

You call GB a socialist country?

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #84

Check our last lot of election results and remember that we invented Socialism, the Trade Union movement, the Co-operative movement, the Welfare State, Old Age Pensions, Universal Healthcare, fixed working hours, weekends, paid annual leave and compulsory free education.

If you look closely enough at the video accompanying our Anthem, you'll see Angela Lansbury's grandfather.

31 Oct 2024  #85

....let me come back to your post about NK....just because a party with something "social" in the name means not the country is or even tries to be socialist.

A question....how would a party truly fare in GB which would wave Marx' Manifesto and promises to make everybody equal, you know....to seize all the private firms, make everything totally free....you know, all the old promises....would they have a chance?

Socialist economy features

Public ownership
No choice for consumers
Centralized planning
Equal distribution of income
...

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #86

NK..

It's a theocratic monarchy.

how would a party truly fare in GB which would wave Marx' Manifesto

Marx wrote the Communist Manifesto. We have Communists but we don't vote for them. People prefer Socialism in our particularly British iteration. What we created.

everybody equal,

You're quoting from the United States Declaration of Independence now.

.to seize all the private firms,

That's not Socialism, and your screenshot is fiction.

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #87

What we created.

I come to think we talk about different things here...during the years the definitions got swammy, the words framed and blurred....

That's not really "Socialism" what you and many people want, but still....there will always be the hardliner and fanatics who definitely would love to go all the nine yards and take the country down with them. They need to be watched!

jon357
31 Oct 2024  #88

That's not really "Socialism" what you and many people want

It is exactly Socialism.

Please don't confuse Socialism with some absolutist view that it's a kind of diluted Communism. If anything, its roots are religious.

Then again, Engels cribbed the best bits of his best known book from a Unitarian minister's wife in Manchester.

.there will always be the hardliner and fanatics who definitely would love to go all the nine yards and take the country down with them

This is sadly true; people not at ease with themselves and the society they live in. Such people are attracted to extremes.

Bratwurst Boy
31 Oct 2024  #89

It is exactly Socialism.

No, its not!

A 'Socialist Country' is defined as a nation where private ownership is abolished, economic resources are controlled by the state, and political power is concentrated in a 'vanguard party'. These countries include the Soviet Union, China, Cuba, and others that followed similar socialist principles.

sciencedirect.com/topics/social-sciences/socialist-country

Please don't confuse Socialism

I lived through it, remember? ;)

Erich Honecker 14th August 1989:

"Den Sozialismus in seinem Lauf hält weder Ochs noch Esel auf."

"Neither ox nor donkey can stop socialism in its course."
