Hopefully another prisoner exchange is in the making....the Russians should have a gazillion Ukrainians captured by now!

In Mariupol alone we captured more than 2,500+.

These 50 captured of course add to Ukraine's fund for exchange, and consequently they will manage to free more of their own than they would otherwise. But we have much, much more prisoners than them. It will take them a while for them to catch up, to hope for equal exchanges. The difference is in excess of 10X.

....just treat them well.....these experiences will be told later and will have a huge influence for later relationships and the image of Russia in the world!

No doubt most of the prisoners taken in Mariupol are no longer alive. They did try to cover that up a year ago or so when they claimed that Ukraine had struck a POV camp...

The model of good treatment is the way the US treated Japs. First, the US fried 200,000 in August 1945 to help the rest of them to fall in love with America. Then the US taught these savages how to be the most vicious economic competitor. That's the American way...

Indeed. At least Russia's invasion has given us an opportunity to make up for this to their descendents. Those who are today threatened by Russian imperialism.... And the Russians themselves, since a Russian defeat is their best shot at a better future (without Putin and his regime) for Russia itself.

Somehow I fear most of the current Russians see that differently....it will take alot more time for that!

But I guess the mood wasn't that liberation-friendly even after the Allies took over Germany. People usually just don't work that way.

Sure, when the German president called the defeat in 1945 "liberation" in 1985 that was still deemed controversial. And it will no doubt take time for the Russians to come to terms with what they have done. But that doesn't change the value of what we are doing.

Think about it. Posters like Bobko are polite and seemingly reasonable, so I think he may one day realize the truth of what Russia has done. Yet coming to the realization, that he openly endorsed and supported Russia's genocidal war of agression will no doubt be painful.

Nobody wants his "home team" to lose...nobody! You can accept a defeat for whatever reasons but to be really glad about it is a different thing altogether, official speeches or not...

I guess official acceptance is the most one could and should go for!

There were Germans who realized what Germany was doing and who wanted Germany to lose. Like Thomas Mann for example. There are also Russians today who want Russia to lose. Some of them are even fighting for Ukraine.

Every Russian will have to ask him/herself afterwards why they did not come to the same conclusion.

I mean unlike WWII, there are no plans to occupy Russia, annex its' territory and expell its' citizens from their homes.

That reminds me about the whole Stauffenberg-Mythos....I recently watched that movie again....and it came out clearly (one even said it), the biggest motivator was the fear of the Allies in Berlin...they wanted to kill Hitler to have still something to negotiate with to gain a truce!

I couldn't help wondering if they would have tried the same if Germany would still be winning on all fronts....frankly I doubt that....

That is a complex issue. The group behind Stauffenberg was incredibly diverse. Some of them were war criminals hoping to save themselves, while others had been opposed to Hitler from the start. Canaris had used his position to sabotage Hitler's policies and preparation for war since 1938.

If I remember correctly, there have been Russian informers leaking intel to Ukraine particulary in the first few months of this war.

That's why my greatest military regret is that the US had only 2 nukes in August 1945. 100 would be so much more fun...

I'd say watching your country starting an unprovoked war of agression, losing 550k+ soldiers and witnessing Russia becoming a battefield is much worse than that. Plus NATO is now close to St. Petersburg due to the war.


They don't. Russia never stops unless they are stopped. Torture chambers and filtrations are immediately created in territories that Russia controles.


There is nothing reasonable about supporting Russia in this war. Not only is it morally wrong, it is also objectively terrible for Russia's present and future.


As a German I am quite familiar with quite a few things Russia is doing. Bombing civilian infrastructure and blowing up dams. Looting and destroying cultural artefacts. Starving PoVs. Shooting civilians on the streets. Abducting children in a second Lebensborn project. The list goes on.


I could have done without this to be honest. Better WWII had remained the last big war in Europe. But it is nice knowing that we won't be the villains in the conflict that will shape the narrative in Europe for the next generation.

The patriot systems and other western anti-air systems that have proven themselves capable of stopping Russian missiles.

Putin did send kill teams to murder Zelensky at the beginning of the war. But since they were only used to murder Russian journalists and human right activists, they ended up being slaughtered by Ukrainian special forces.

Russia is neither the USA nor Israel. Those countries know how to fight and win. Russia is a corrupt dictatorship whose generals only know one strategy: Throw as many men at the enemy as necessary.

The morality scale was set once and for all by the US. I am not condemning or blessing...Just saying...
Russia is well within that scale.

Not if we are talking about rationality. Russia's war against Ukraine is irrational by any reasonable metric.


We Germans had and still have a lot of empathy for the Russians. Some would argue too much, at the expense of our other victims like the Ukrainians. We used to believe that they could change. And why not, if we changed, everyone can. I pity the Russians who are paying the price for the war, but they are ultimately responsible for it.

Nothing else needs to be said.......it cannot be defended by any logical or sane mind.
