Coronavirus in Poland

return to normality

By now I believe people will have to demand normality before it comes back

mafketis

People will have to create normality (against whatever the government wants).

Governments have abrogated (following Chinese Communist Party policies) unprecedented powers for themselves and they're not gonna give them up easily...

Not to mention that the policies doubtless have made the "pandemic" far worse than it would have been otherwise.... it's like they're designed to keep it prolonged....

...to make some meaningful difference and a return to normality, at least 70% of the population would need to be vaccinated....

So, by Christmas at the earliest then. My guess is that there will have to be some lifting of the restrictions in the summer months as they will probably get ignored anyway and it would be simply impractical and unenforceable. Interestingly, even in the UK where the vaccinations are progressing at a record rate there are suggestions that social distancing and mask wearing should continue till the end of the year. This is despite the fact that the vaccine rollout will have finished by late July. There will have to be more realistic thinking in the coming months.

in the UK where the vaccinations are progressing at a record rate t

And in Ireland, it's expected that by mid-June, 80% of adults will have had at least their first vaccine dose BUT virologists etc there are saying that although there will be some improvement, mask-wearing etc will have to continue. The general outlook in countries where the vaccine is being rolled out fairly quickly (and sadly Poland isn't one of those), is as follows:

Continuing restrictions on international travel.
Continued mask -wearing.
Re-occurring lockdowns (of shorter duration but stricter).
Increased freedom of movement and socializing within national boundaries.
By the end of 2021 a return to cultural activities and larger gatherings.

However, I see a worrying trend emerging; in Israel, where they plan to re-open cinemas, allow more events, concerts, etc. attendance at such things will require you to be vaccinated. That I don't like, because while I don't object to vaccines in principle, I'm not too sure about this one, having been produced so quickly and without enough information available about possible long-term dangers/side-effects. I wouldn't like to have it myself unless I were in the vulnerable category when I might consider it, and I would very strongly object to the next possible step of making it mandatory.

By the end of 2021 a return to cultural activities and larger gatherings.

Do you believe this or are you just reporting it?

Cause... I don't see any evidence that western governments (including Ireland) have any intention of ever getting back to February 2020... there are too many powerful forces making too much from destroying the economy and socio-cultural institutions (like schools).

The only way it ends is.... we the people end it and government can catch up with us.

What's the point of anyone taking a vaccine if there's no immediate prospect of getting back to normal?

Just reporting it. I have no idea what will happen.

we the people end it

There doesn't seem to be any large-scale appetite for that. Personally, neither I nor my husband wear a mask outdoors now unless we're in a crowded place. I'm not going to wear a mask to walk down an almost empty street to my local park and then remove the mask. It's complete nonsense. I've never been in favour of wearing a mask outdoors. I've also never done the manic hand-washing and disinfecting because I think we'll destroy our immune systems. I do the disinfecting at the entrance to the supermarket out of respect to the people who work and shop there but that's it. I'm not going to be going around with a bottle of hand sanitiser disinfecting myself every five seconds just because I touched something.

Czechs ask Putin for Sputnik vaccine. So out of Visegrad group , poland are the last ones not to use russia tech. Lets see how kaczynski will handle it.

Yeah, me neither.

I'm probably a bit too guilty of this... if hand sanatizer is available... I'll probably use it...

What's the point of anyone taking a vaccine if there's no immediate prospect of getting back to normal?

More specifically, why would being vaccinated be a condition of admission if the vaccinated are still spreaders?
If I want to kill myself with the virus, I should be allowed to do it just like I am allowed to do it 179 other ways. The cost of treatment argument doesn't work since lung cancer from smoking is not cheap, either. Or getting a new liver.

Re-occurring lockdowns (of shorter duration but stricter).

If you mean in countries like the UK after the rollout has finished I very much doubt it. There's enough opposition in Britain as it is against lockdown. Sadly I think it may have to happen in Poland thou, unless the vaccine problems get sorted.

That's fine. We all have our own personal health situations and for you that may be a good thing. I'm lucky that I don't have conditions like asthma or other chronic things and I have a reasonably good immune system, don't catch colds very often and so on. I'd like to try to retain that if possible for as man years as I can :)

mafketis
28 Feb 2021  #4843

for you that may be a good thing

just more habit... I don't carry sanitizer around with me or anything....

I go out almost every day (missed several when the snow was lying around) and think staying cooped up and masked up all the time is probably really bad for people that do that...

At this point I'm against any and all lockdowns and in retrospect think it was a mistake to go along with the idea in the first place... had we done what was normal (greater help in isolating the vulnerable) and just pushed through then the whole thing would be over now with far fewer deaths.

Instead we were convinced by hysterics and/or paid shills of China and now we're facing a crappy future of begging governments to let us engage in outlandish anarchy like going out for dinner or visiting friends or going on vacation.

Yes, in the beginning it may have been justified but that ship sailed long ago. At the point where it became clear that the virus is mutating and basically can't be eliminated, there should have been a complete sea-change. The fact that there hasn't been suggests that there is indeed some ulterior motive for the continuing situation.

Sadly people are scared. My mom said to me 'I still want to live a little bit longer '...

The fact is most governments don't even have a clear message WHY we should stay home. It's clear the virus will keep circulating and as to the health service...they had a year to think about it. If they don't have solutions now they won't have them in 10 years time either.

Sadly people are scared

They are in the EU because they have messed it up.
Stupid politicians who supposedly support the EU have actually tried to support their own countries and failed.
This has led to a disaster in Europe.
Luckily, Poland has actually done better in vaccinating their people than most of the EU.

I wouln't say it has a lot to do with EU. One other older person I know in UK (but with less comorbities than my mom) was recently talking to me from afar with a mask on. No unnecessary contact with anybody for a year now. So no, people are scared all over, not only EU.

@Atch, thanks, will do. She is fine it's just the constant talk of deaths etc.

What's the point of anyone taking a vaccine if there's no immediate prospect of getting back to normal?

Simple if you were to pay attention and listen.
I will speak slowly.
"Even with the vaccine you can still get the virus and still spread the virus without knowing you have it."
All the vaccine does is keeps you from going to the hospital to recover if you catch it and it keeps you from dying if you catch it.

That is the point of older people and people with a weak immune system (at a higher risk) for taking the vaccine maf.

My mom said to me 'I still want to live a little bit longer '...

Lenka I can feel her fear.
Get her vaccinated as soon as you can to give her some comfort.
Until then tell her that their is a guy over in the U.S. that is praying daily for her peace and calm until she gets her vaccine.

I'm sure that Atch will join me and put that prayer on her prayer list too.

I beg to differ...the EU has messed up BIG TIME and the UK will come out of this at least a year ahead of Europe.

Over 30% of Brits have now had at least one dose of vaccine, the fear in the UK is disappearing, but it still exists on the continent.

the EU has messed up BIG TIME and the UK will come out of this at least a year ahead of Europe.

Not exactly a 'benefit' of 'brexit', especially as all states are free to purchase their own supplies. And even if we vaccinnated the whole population in a week, it wouldn't make up for Johnson's disaster.

No unnecessary contact with anybody for a year now.

People are taking it seriously there.

Middling here. A lot of queue jumping.

Percentage wise it's ahead of EU leader Germany (though of course that country was hampered by dumb EU plans).

But not the worst start...

Hospitalizations are way down in the US and scientists are claiming we could be reaching heard immunity by May this year!

You wont hear this coming out of Xidens mouth though. Hes using this virus to ram through his 1.9 Trillion libtard wish list.."Never let a good crisis go to waste" is the Dems motto.

Seems the USA, the UK and Israel have been the best at vaccinating.

Pharmaceutical giant Merck just announced a deal with J&J and will help make Johnson & Johnson's single shot coronavirus vaccine which an unusual pact between fierce competitors that could sharply boost the supply of the newly authorized vaccine.

J&J's vaccine is also a one shot deal and can be refrigerated instead of being frozen.
Help is on it's way as all the big pharmaceuticals want a piece $$$ of the pie.

@mafketis, Why do you think closing down parks and forests was a mistake? Coronafreaks will explain to you that those were scientifically-backed actions introduced for your own good :-)

I'm glad that more and more people are coming to their senses and a pool of coronacultists (you know who you are, you beautiful morons) is shrinking.

The end of the "pandemic" will not come with a decision of politicians, it's just too convenient for them to rule over scared masses to simply give it up. And it's not going to be announced by some medical "experts" who have their 5 minutes of fame right now.

It will be over when a critical mass of citizens say it is over. We're not going to take part in this nonsense anymore.

Miloslaw

Wrong.
It wil be over when a critical mass of citizens are vaccinated..... as is being currently proven.

Have flu jabs eliminated a mutating common flu virus? How is vaccination going to eliminate a mutating corona flu virus then? It may (temporarily) diminish it's spread. Which may be enough to announce the "end of pandemic" by those who would really want it to end that is.

It was easy and convenient to enter the "pandemic" but officially ending it will be much more challenging.

First: there are politicians whose lives became very easy during the "pandemic". Any unpopular decision can be now justified by anticorona measures.

Second: medics and medicals experts who have their 15 minutes of fame. They feel like superheroes and they get paid more for doing less.

Third: the mass media who are making a lot of money out of it. And they are never short of sensationalist Corona-related content.

Fourth: there are plenty of coronafreaks and hypochondriacs who were convinced for the last year that a magical dust mask will save their lives against "lethal disease". It will take a lot of time and effort to convince them that the fresh air doesn't want to kill them.

This new Chinese flu will stay with us and the only thing which can change is our attitude towards it. The first step is realising that it is a virus with a mortality rates of a common flu.
