Coronavirus in Poland

ShawnH
29 Feb 2020  #31

right now the most infected and dead people are Chinese

I believe there are more dead Chinese than the Chinese are letting the world know about. Saw many videos allegedly in China about loading truck loads of bodies to to to the morgue, people having their apartment doors WELDED shut, people escaping their apartments by climbing down balconies to go to the market, people dropping dead on the street!

Entirely possible. They also have a huge penal system with people living in very poor conditions and on poor diets; ideal for any illness to spread.

In Poland, circumstances are different, however there are still many possibilities for this and plenty of situations where people are in close quarters.

Tell us the difference B.B.

No vaccination, no cure?

The current death rate (from China) is by 2%, the flu for comparison has about 0,1%.......

That means:

100 sick = 2 dead
1000 sick = 20 dead
10.000 sick = 200 dead
100.000 sick = 2000 dead
1000000 sick = 20.000 dead

Again....that virus spreads much faster than the flu...and there is no medicine against...so it's only a matter of time when the infected numbers reach the millions, all over the world!

Another example.....it could very well be that at least 50% of the german population will become infected, that are more than 40 million people...that could very well mean about 800.000 dead people!

@Bratwurst Boy
...and a longer incubation period. Concern that it is > 14 days, while still contagious. One person can infect a lot of people before they are symptomatic, not knowing they are infecting so many.

@jon357
Global travel means that no country, including Poland, are isolated

Bratwurst Boy

...yeah...rarely fever...a slight cough...and they keep doing their stuff and infect masses of others...

My grandmother would say `Its a virus, its not a wolf. Why panic?`

Global travel means that no country, including Poland, are isolated

That's very true; there's of course a lot of travel between Poland and Italy, and on a very basic level, plenty of lorries crossing into Poland every day at the eastern border.

100 sick = 2 dead

100 times .01% = 1 dead.

They have a long way to go for it to be a problem.

That's for the flu...

johnny reb

No, that is for the Coronavirus.

Bratwurst Boy
29 Feb 2020  #42

After the actual cases from China the mortality rate is 2%.....that makes 2 death for every 100 infected.

And that's even down calculated:

fr.de/wissen/coronavirus-sars-cov-2-hoehere-sterberate-grippe-influenza-13563575.html

For the chinese province Hubei, the starting place with especially man infected, the chinese authorities calculated a mortality rate of 2,9%. (my translation) It's not about Poland.

It's not about Poland.

stupid mod: the fatality rates are very relevant for discussions of what the effects of the pandemic will be in Poland...

nevertheless anyone who takes the Chinese statistics at face value is either naive or a paid chinese troll...

the data available so far from China is useless, far more useful are S Korea and Italy two countries with much better testing/quarantine regimens... Sadly Japan completely bungled things...

Iran is a mystery, the official data make no sense and it might be a different strain...

AFAICT indicate it's most dangerous to older people and/or people who are sick and maybe a bit worse for men, the real unknown once it hits hotter climates like Africa will be whether it burns itself out there or if it mutates (and what direction the mutation is in).

Good point. I noticed the same thing but was too scared to react to it.

Sadly Japan completely bungled things...

Nobody wants to be proactive or they will be accused of spreading panic. Reactive is always safer, it seems.

so it's only a matter of time when the infected numbers reach the millions, all over the world!

I don't think it's a forgone conclusion that this will be a pandemic. Vigilance is certainly needed, but let's not panic (at least, not yet)--besides, as you noted, the symptoms in the vast majority of cases are relatively mild.

Did you get your respirator? If so, I hope you were able to get one that fashionably coordinates with your helmet. :)

Looks like insanity has taken hold here, where some events are being cancelled, yet church services continue uninterrupted. Given that we know that it's -

AFAICT indicate it's most dangerous to older people

Then you'd think that closing churches would be a sensible move if it's really that dangerous.

Bratwurst Boy
29 Feb 2020  #47

Did you get your respirator?

Nah...getting a respirator today means a crowd....I'm very vigilant concerning crowds nowadays! :)

One can accept that this will become a pandemia without panicking..it's fully possible...see me? I don't panic! I'm totally calm!!! :):):)

Braveheart16

delphiandomine..closing churches would be a sensible ...

Certainly closing churches would be sensible given the enormous risk with groups of people potentially passing on this virus...it would be reckless to ignore the need to close churches as indeed it would be for any other crowd gathering event......

I really think this is getting overblown.
Yes, it is serious, yes we need to be careful and take some precautions.
But in the end, it is just flu, which kills thousands of people every year.
This has the potential to be worse than normal flu, so we need to be vigilant.
But that is all.
DON'T PANIC!!

How about communion where everyone takes a sip of wine out of the same chalice in the Catholic Church. ?

People don`t believe the PiS government when they say Poland is fully prepared coz PIS are professional liars.

Thank you, dear PiS, for further ruining the medical care in Poland during the last 5 years.

So, the PiS government says Poland is fully prepared.

Let`s have a closer look:

The news report: only 6 infectious disease physicians in Opole voivodship for 100.000 inhabitants.

pawian....Thank you, dear PiS, for further ruining the medical care in Poland during the last 5 years.

In most forward thinking, responsible nations you would think that medical care for the population would be top of the list.....sadly this is not the case in Poland....it would seem that the government bumbles along with lots of bravardo on how well the hospitals are doing and how much is being invested, yet when push comes to shove (Coronavirus) it is woefully under resourced and under prepared for something like this virus let alone any other of the many deseases/illnesses we are subjected to.....

You know nothing about Poland and Poland's medical care.

Braveheart16

Well its clear you know nothing about me as I can say that I have had first hand knowledge and experience of Poland's medical care as I live in Poland...take my word....

jon357

sadly this is not the case in Poland.

There are two possibilities; either the gov't are woefully unprepared and being opaque about it, or they're deliberately being low key to avoid public panic. I hope it's the latter.

So, the PiS government says Poland is fully prepared.

A woman who came back from northern Italy has been locked up in Poznan hospital since Tuesday without clear diagnosis. She suspects doctors are hiding the results of her medical tests.

results of her medical tests.

This article is quite interesting There's certainly no reason for the spread of Covid-19 to be less or more severe in Poland than elsewhere.

Sooner or later some cretinous conspiracy theory was going to appear.

It doesn't add anything at all to the discussion on preparedness and response in Poland.

Better to follow official advice rather than some conspiraloons' website about aliens etc.
