Secondly, invading two neighbouring countries can be justified a lot easier as a strategic and necessary move, as opposed to, say, countries that are 7000 miles or so away.

Let's say Russia did invade both. Only a shallow moron not responsible for anything would dismiss why. Russia, as any other country, does not have play soldiers and play money to throw around because it's fun. Until you show me the true and criminal reasons for those invasions, I will assume that Russia had very good reasons for both.

I'm sure that had a very good reasons ..like always. The thing is Russia good reasons are not good enough for a country which a main policy for the last 400 years or so had been an armed conquest of everything they could get away with. It is not as if they had not enough land. I think that are still the largest country in the world if it comes to its territory or a second large....whatever.... with the economy comparable to the Dutch economy.

Russia is punching above its way in military and is able to keep it up financially by selling crude ores. It a very primitive policy, they like to pose sometime as a third Rome, in fact the ancient Rome was a way too to sophisticated for Russia, they are Assyrian style empire.

'Economical'? Do you mean they're cutting costs or do you mean "economic"? In either sense, they aren't a 'giant'. Nor is Russia, which has an African style economy based on selling what's under the ground. Nobody wants their manufactured products, such as they are.
